From BBC Barcelona striker Eidur Gudjohnsen admits he would be interested in a move to Manchester United. He said: "If I leave then my idea would be to return to British football. "A perfect choice for me will be a club that plays in the Champions League. Obviously Manchester United is a club that fits into that category." He added: "I joined Barcelona to be part of the club's triumphs but it is not easy for me when you look at the club's forward line and see all the big names there. "Each minute has been a special test for me but to sit on the bench is not the most desirable experience for a player. "I still don't think I have failed in Spain, but perhaps I have not totally won the confidence of the coach." Gudjohnsen is under contract until 2009 and could be available for around £8m - a figure that could interest United as the Premiership champions weigh up their striking options for next season.

Allardyce denies interest in both Guily and Tuncay (SkySports)

Manchester City have hit back at Newcastle boss Sam Allardyce in the cash row over Joey Barton's proposed £5.5m move to St James' Park. City spokesman Paul Tyrrell said: "It is disappointing that Sam Allardyce has chosen to make these claims public. "At no time have we divulged the details of Joey's contract." That doesn't make sense to me, if the clause was triggered it was triggered by a club offering the fee.

This is all speculation, for all we know Barton is a victim in this. Mackay could have approached the club as player representative and demanded the contractually owed sum. (Mackay may well be on a cut of it.) Even in a worse case scenario and it is all down to Barton, it could come down to a matter of principles that he feels the club has to do the right thing. No-one here knows what that money is earmarked for, he might be giving it straight to some charity. He's not a bling bling crack head for all that he clearly has some rage issues, there is an earlier quote from a reliable source regarding the amount of charity work he does. Why are people so quick to condemn when they have none of the facts?

I want to make the training ground better. It isn't a place for professional footballers to work on a day-to-day basis. "This is a squash club converted. My vision in the long term is to create an all-encompassing building that would excite everybody who walks through the door every day.
