We couldn't match their wages Yeah I'm sure they're paying him £70k a week or something..

I think Marveaux has come here because he's getting a good contract, playing with some countrymen he knows and feels he's wanted (since we've been after him for quite some time). I don't think he's someone to be felt sorry for or that the club have done anything wrong by telling him anything that'll help us sign him. That's what they should do! You're obviously worried about the direction the club is heading in, and I can understand some of it (though IMO some is overblown like assuming Tiote will be sold ect). But having a go because they're being as optimistic as possible with a new signing isn't really fair IMO.

Do you honestly think he hasn't told the club this, and is just trying for some reason (I'm not sure why) to string them along by saying well I might sign one, talk to me later? It's blatantly obvious that he wont sign a new contract and has been for a while. I personally expect that he has explicitly told the club this, but even if he hasn't it's quite implicit from his refusal to even negotiate about it. As Tron says, what possible advantage would it be to the club or the player to come out in the press and say so explicitly though. Everything points to him wanting to move for his career, not for money, and if so it would be in his interest to move this season rather than next, however he is quite honourably if you ask me allowing the club to decide whether to let him play out his contract or sell him to a club with bigger aspirations where he has more chance of being picked for his country. He's not agitating for a move, he's not got his agent making trouble in the press to lower his price and attract interest, he's just quietly letting things play out. Do I honestly think he hasn't told the club that? Yes, what reason is there to assume otherwise? Refusing to talk and stalling on a contract isn't the same as making his intentions clear, its aimed at doing exactly the opposite, honourable isn't the word for it. Also, you don't see a reason why he'd want to string people along rather then coming out and saying what his intentions are?, really?

Yeah they should be telling Marveaux and any other signing/potential signing that we're not really sure if we can finish mid table this season let alone higher.. Honestly any reason to have a go at the club
-
If a bid comes in from someone like Chelsea then as usual the player would want to go, which would obviously be a problem.
-
£15m for Tiote?, I don't think so.
-
If he slouches any lower he'll be kneeling down.
-
If he's decided 100% that he wants to run down his contract and leave for nothing then telling us that won't be a great help no, though it'd still be for the best for us IMO If however he simply wants to leave 100% (wether from a move this window or for free in a year) then it would be a big benefit to the club to know that. They'd then know that they need to sell him for the best price they can get ASAP and get a replacement in. But they aren't going to do that while they think there's a chance he'll stay.

If I believed for a moment that he has any intention of possibly signing a new contract with us then I might see it the same way as you. But I don't believe that at all. IMO the stalling is just about not wanting to put himself in an awkward position with the fans if he doesn't get the offer he wants in this window. Is that wrong?, I don't know, its sneaky IMO, underhanded, either way its bad for the club. Like I said cunt isn't a word I'd use, but I also don't agree with the opposite view that people shouldn't have any problem with what he's doing either. I'm losing patience with him rapidly now so I don't begrudge anyone being a bit pissed off at the lad.
-
Tiotes nowt like Modric.
-
Ok but did anyone really say he's a cunt for fullfilling his contract?
-
Jesus its like some people just don't read
-
Yes he's played well and if he just came out and made his position clear one way or the other I'd say fair enough, but right now he's pissing us about. I wouldn't call him a cunt either at this point, but I've really started to lose patience with the lad.
-
Possibly, I guess we also have some dodgy cover for RB as well in the form of the Taylor twins, but I wouldn't want to be seeing them play there much. Don't worry, the defence isn't going to have much to do next year, the midfield aren't going to let the opposition see any of the ball and most of the goals we conceded last year were Nolan's fault. Enrique = a cunt who is being disrespectful to the fans and only interested in money by sticking to the terms of his contract signed 5 years ago even through a relegation and not signing a "highly lucrative" new contract. Ben Arfa, Ba, Cabaye, Marveaux = good lads with well researched solid characters, just looking for a bigger footballing challenge (in some cases a bigger challenge than being Champions of their native league and playing in the CL). Massive double standards lads. You play by the sword, you die by the sword. As ye sow, so shall ye reap. etc No he isn't a cunt for sticking to the terms of his contract. What people have a problem with is the fact that he won't let people know what his intentions are for certain. He won't enter talks on a new contract but he won't actually come out and say "I want to leave" either. He's being a sneaky little fucker and trying to have his cake and eat it and while he has every right to do it, people also have every right to call him a cunt for it.

Really? How do you know this? I really doubt you know what the club value him at like.
-
The article says £15m would probably be the starting point to open negotiations, also its quite clearly the opinion of the writer and nothing else. From the LES Article... However, the same article also claims he cost us £4.5m. Ah right, I was reading the northern echo article. Still "it is believed" still screams the same "I made it up" as the echo article.

Well yeah obviously, like any other player/club in the world. No indication at this point that this is anything but media nonesense though, and certainly no indication that Chelsea would be prepared to make the kind of offer needed to sign him (IMO the club know Tiotes class and any offer would need to be huge like it was with Carroll).

Venkys LTD aren't in the same league as Ambani financially, shame its all bullshit though..
-
You've really confused me there like.. EDIT: Oh you mean the alledged £10m Swansea wanted for Taylor vs £1.5 for Routledge
-
IF Best's prepared to be third choice yes.

At the moment Whickam's barely a decent Championship striker. Even Lovenkrands had a far superior record in the Championship.
-
Are you suggesting this is some kind of fake deal paid for by the Man City owners to artificially increase the clubs revenue? I seriously doubt that, its a genuine Sponsorship and obviously the best deal they could get. Man City are certainly going to be trying their best to increase revenue as much as possible in order to stay within the new rules. But I also think they'll need to decrease their spending to achieve it.

That's going to be a big part of it yeah, though this will hardly make a dent. Still worth doing financially of course, but I would have expected a better deal.
