Nice one

id say all of our players out deals in the last 18 months are staggered ones so i don't think player sales covered the loss due to ashley having to put in 20m to cover running costs and cost cutting measures in place. Remember the wage bill may be well down but its still huge by championship standards I agree mostly, though we have to remember that our revenue is also still huge by championship standards.

Agreed, unless he decides to sack Hughton and bring in an ostrich to replace him then we'll be fine.
-
Also lets be honest, the Derby game was one of those were the ball just wouldn't go in the net, similar to Bristol City at home. With any luck at all we'd have been a few up within the first half an hour and even after that we had the kind of chances we'd normally put away 9 times out of 10 (Taylors header and Rangers chance for instance).

Some people thought the wheels had falling off during that four game winless run earlier in the season (a much worse run then we're on now), its no closer to happening this time. Also all through the season we've come up against the odd team that puts us under pressure, simply because its their cup final. Other teams are overawed by us and IMO we'll continue to see both scenarios throughout the season. All we need to do really is not sell anyone important, so Geremi can fuck off for a start

Zog was an absolute waste of space in his final season here. I was glad when we sold him and I haven't changed my mind now.

Wenger's comments are bollocks like, but do you honestly think he'd ask a player to do what Delap does even if he had someone capable of it?, because I don't.
-
Not that funny really, no matter how poor he was in the Premiership last year he was clearly a class La Liga defender.

£12m or fuck off

Even the best defenders in the world will still make the odd mistake that will give a striker a chance, he absolutely was outstanding today. I certainly don't think his improved performances are simply due to second rate strikers at this level either. If you look past the opposition Coloccini himself has improved and changed the way he plays. Of course he still has flaws that could be punished more often in the Premiership, but he's definitely getting more used to our game.

If I was I'd do myself. Anyway I got 1462, so close enough.

Bastards, I just counted the lot, came on here and you've already counted them

But makes perfect sense to have a couple stadiums close to one another to host group games, non? Well, you could say that but if that was the case why dont they just use 6 London Stadiums!?! I can't think of 6 London stadiums good enough. -
Loan players are exactly what we need now. Players who are good enough for this league that we won't be stuck with next year. If we want players good enough to keep us in the Premiership then we should be signing then from a position of strength in the Premiership. Those kind of players either won't sign for you in the Championship or want even more cash then normal.

Snipped as I'm only replying to this part - I agree about Zog not being interested but he was one of the few we had who could make something happen out of nothing. Think how close we were to staying up, to lose someone like that, interested or not, could have made all of the difference. One piece of magic that led to a goal against any one of a number of teams would have been enough. It's infuriating really. I know what you mean, but we could equally say that he might have done even less then his replacement and made us even worse, he was just too shit that season to fret over IMO.
-
Mowen I just don't think Zog was interested in the slightest anymore, he might have scored a goal or he might not but I certainly wouldn't call him important. Geremi can fuck off even if nobody was replacing him, he's our 6th choice central midfielder and doesn't even get near the pitch while he picks up his £60k+ a week, unfortunately nobody's going to come in for him. At least he'll be gone next season. Barton is a difficult one, he certainly had talent and should still have it but he's not showing it, even in this shit league. When he's not in prison or being shit he's injured and again on £60k+ a week. I'd rather bring through the likes of LuaLua and Vuckic if neccesary then keep him.

You just HAVE to be taking the piss, surely?

They mention the end of the Northern Rock sponsorship deal, but not the fact that we haven't received money from Norther Rock in years (due to Freddy getting it all up front and spending it). The end of that deal and beginning of a new one is actually a financial boost. Pitty Ashley had to ruin it by fucking up the Adidas deal, I wonder how much less we'll get from another shirt maker? I suppose it depends whether or not they have the brains to wait until the club is back in the Premiership before negotiating any new deals.

I'm very happy with how things are going on the pitch at the moment but there are plenty of reasons to be concerned given Ashley's track record of getting pretty much every major decision since he arrived wrong. This is a man who, when faced with a relegation battle last season sold two important players, made a profit on sales and hindered our chances of survival. Logic dictates he'd keep the team together to give us the best shot at going up but history suggests he may well not. There are plenty of reasons to be happy at the moment but it would be naive in the extreme to not be concerned about what will happen in January. Regardless of what you believe re: finances he's shown himself time and time again to be utterly clueless with regards as to what's going on out on the pitch. That was nowt in comparison to his disastrous managerial appointments. Zog wasn't important IMO either, he was impotent if that's what you mean. IMO we'll sell nobody and bring in another loan or two. If we're very very lucky we'll sell Barton and some club will be desperate enough to take Geremi on a free, but unfortunately thats just not going to happen.
-
Defending the tw*t to hilt as usual. Not renewing at a time like this is obviously down to Ashley dragging the club into the dirt and turning it into a laughing stock. Stop trying to defending the indefensible, it's foolish.

Fantastic logic that like

Newcastle East End wore red and white verticle stripes but Newcastle United never did. Our first strip was a full red shirt with red socks and white shorts.
