Duff would have done a better job at CB. It was a completely shockingly crap display.

Anyone think we've progressed in the past 2 and a half years?

We have played at the Emirates. I meant at home, i`ve been smoking. -

Rebellious replied to Nobby's topic in Football
Team wise we may have progressed but so has the whole Premier league. As a competitive force not at all, just steadily got worse. Goals against for example 05-06 42 06-07 47 07-08 65 !!! 08-09 18 and we have not played Arsenal away, Man Utd at sjp, Chelsea home and away. -
I agree with all of that, also Duff is playing better.
-
If Shay went anywhere it would be Arsenal. Nowhere else.

He has a responsilibty to be careful with his words, like anyone else who represents an organisation at a high level. Surely? Someone needs PR training before they are in a position to apparently speak for the majority.

Could flirting with relegation be the way forward?
Rebellious replied to The Prophet's topic in Football
Actually getting relegated would be bad news. Its tougher in the championship than people who don`t know it realise. We have spent the last 4 years struggling to beat some of the sides that come up and due to crap refereeing, bad luck, play offs and injuries its not even always the best sides that come up. To get out right promotion with no play off takes immense consistancy something I think we have never had. So if you don`t get that then its down to a couple of play offs where a large chunk of luck and decisions are needed to get up that way and thats something we have never had either. If we were actually a good side that unforunately went down then ok we could bounce up but we are a poor side. As for just flirting with it, imo we have been for a few years now and it hasnt helped. -
Word. There was a lot to be encouraged about, a couple of things that need to change if performances are to be turned into points, but overall, 'Arry has transformed the atmosphere. Should also be more good news today. Do you mean this as the good news ? Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed they are leaving White Hart Lane and will build a new 60,000 capacity stadium.

Does Xisco's situation bear similarities with that of Jose Enrique?

My thoughts as well. -
Manager advisng the team to sit back and hold the lead. A better team would have torn us a new back 4. Taylor scares the shit out of me. I havn`t read the whole thread but, You should work for one of the rags. Kinnear came out at the end and clearly stated he wanted them to carry on attacking. He didn`t want them to sit back and defend. So here you are telling someone who didnt see the match or interview your own made up version ? Also in my opinion it was Collocini that was at fault for the goal, he also pressed and got messed up a few times in a similar way a few times yet Taylor scared you ? Beye made 3-4 last ditch tackles though that saved the pair of them agreed but Collocini unlike last week was worse than taylor on the deck but was quite impressive in the air even though 95% of his headed clearences went straight to WBA.

Rush them back? Jonas has had a shoulder injury - Unlikely that this is going to be damaged in a match. Barton has had no injury at all. He might have match sharpness issues, but not fitness issues. When players have leg injuries, it's sometimes important not to rush them. No harm in throwing Barton and Jonas on from the start though IMO. I understand what you're trying to say but a broken Collarbone is something that needs to be nurtured, because it can easily break again if not managed properly. Barton, maybe your point is valid, however I personally think it was the right decision not to start him. But if the broken collarbone is healed enough for 10 minutes action, then surely it's healed enough for 90? He can either take a blow to it or he can't. Certainly he should have been introduced a hell of a lot earlier, 10 minutes was a joke. And I don't see how it was right not to start Barton when Nicky Butt is the alternative. You've got the match fitness issue here as well. Whilst a player may be fit enough to run around a training park, playing in a match is a whole different ball game, and even being out of it for a couple of weeks screws you up. So tell me, if you're 100% physically fit (As Barton will be) then how do you get match fitness? By playing matches of course. But you EASE them back into it, you don't throw them in the deep end. Also when the starting 11 were picked i`m sure we were all expecting a firey Derby. A bit more of a high tempo and aggressive fixture than a normal match, which is not the type of match to get upto speed in. As it was it was one of the lamest Derby matches I have ever seen. Both teams showed more passion in the Man City game.

I dont understand this. All these threads looking for someone to blame other than the same shite we have had for a team for years now. Duff, Butt, Ameobi, Taylor have been shit under Souness, Roeder, Sam,Keegan and Kinnear but its all those managers fault. Geremi and Martins have been 50/50 from one game to the next under Sam, Keegan and Kinnear. We have always had 50% of our main team injured for the last however many years we just don`t talk about as much as we did under Souness and Roeder. We have had no pace in the team since SBR left and Souness squeezed it out. I would rather not rush 2 big players back ( Barton and Jonas) like Souness used too ( Taylor ) and then have them out for another 5 weeks just because what we had on the pitch is too shit to beat a crap mackem team. Regardless of Kinnears pedigree or lack of I fail to see anything other than slow improvement on anything before Keegan, regardless of results which have been unluckly, fake red card, freak gusts of wind. With a simple view Big sam left us with a steaming pile of shite as did the managers before him since SBR went. Keegan seemed to teach the team to actually pass again and Kinnear as added a fighting spirit back. Now we just have to get rid of souness`s and Sams Rejects.

How is it Ashleys fault that Ameobi missed 2 clearish chances a defender could have stuck away, dont start me with the chance for a decent cross he had and what about Duff not squaring the ball to ameobi in acres of space instead having a shot my gran could have saved. Also I think Barton should have come on with at least 25mins to go.
-
Only Shola could have scored that goal. Anyone else and the keeper would have saved it. It was the shear fact that it couldn`t go anymore opposite to what he was trying to do that made it a goal. He`s scored a few like that i think. Well done though he did well tonight. I wasn`t expecting it. He was the first player to commit a foul, misplace a pass and get in the way all with in the first few mins.
-
Did he not say he worked one on one with Taylor before the Everton game and one on one with Ameobi before last night. He seems to have a good effect on the players. It is still early to say but all the players seem to respect him and have shown more passion since his arrival. Duff seems to be twice the player in the past few games aswell. Also Its good he seems to be picking Bassong at LB over Zoggy unlike the past few managers. Regardless of results the football we are playing seems better. I think even if we are taken over he should remain until the summer just to stop the constant fucking around every few games. The new board should come in and look at what possibilties we have but not make a final decision until they are forced too by results on the pitch.

Impressive. Couldn`t help but joining in with the ironic laughing at the Owen impression talking about Ameobi. -
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/7654430.stm Death crash footballer is jailed Luke McCormick played in goal for Plymouth A Championship footballer has been jailed for seven years and four months for causing the deaths of two children by dangerous driving. Former Plymouth Argyle goalkeeper Luke McCormick, 25, admitted causing the deaths of Arron Peak, 10, and Ben Peak, eight, and driving with excess alcohol. The brothers, from Partington, Greater Manchester, died in a crash on the M6 in Staffordshire on 7 June. McCormick entered his guilty pleas at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court earlier. 'Prison inevitable' Judge Paul Glenn had told him a custodial sentence was inevitable. The court heard that when breathalysed McCormick, who had been returning from a wedding, was found to have 74 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35 micrograms of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath. Friends and relatives of the Peak family were at the court The brothers and their father Philip Peak, 37, were in a Toyota Previa with friends, travelling to Silverstone racetrack, when the crash happened. Their car was involved in a collision with McCormick's Range Rover at about 0545 BST on the southbound carriageway of the motorway between junctions 15 and 16, near Keele services. Mr Peak, 37, who was driving, was seriously injured in the crash. McCormick kept his head bowed and covered his face with his hand as the court heard he told eyewitnesses at the scene: "I am so sorry, I'm sorry. I just fell asleep. I fell asleep, I'm sorry." Before the crash other motorists noticed him "driving like an idiot" and estimated his speed at around 90mph (144km/h). McCormick, a former England youth international, had his contract with Plymouth cancelled "by mutual consent" a month after the crash. Friends and relatives of the boys were at the court to hear McCormick plead guilty.

I said this last week and got grief for it

I was saying this to the misses today. I`ve been thinking since it all happened "poor Keegan" . After todays defeat ( Everyone knows we wouldnt have lost if he had been here) I have changed my mind. I have been stuck in jobs before where I hated every second of it but I stayed in it for the money for my wife and kids, basically people around that I care about more than my feelings. Also didn`t Martin Jol stick in his job regardless of how shit he was treated over the Ramos thing ( might be wrong I smoke a lot of weed and have a bad memory) I`m pretty sure other managers have stuck at their job for the team despite not getting on with the board.

i just hope we dont risk him , as i think we can handle Hull without him... especially since its a dislocated shoulder, takes time to heal from, and if he dislocate it again we can be royally fucked for the rest of the season! but if hes fit! BRING IT ON! Didn`t Souness do that to Taylor. Play him with that injury and fucked him for months longer than needed

Was the crowd chanting "We hate setanta" at the last England match ? Or was I just too stoned and imagined it?

Fatty buying over $200,000 of Champers in New York as KK drama unfolds
Rebellious replied to a topic in Football
The misses just pointed out if those pictures are recent how come someones smoking in the background. Also she thinks shes seen them before. I don't think that UK legislation on smoking in public places covers the USA. They may (or may not) have similar legislation over there. Statewide smoking ban: July, 2003, banned in all workplaces, bars, restaurants, bowling alleys, pool halls, and company cars, except Indian casinos and cigar bars. New York City, March 30, 2003, banned smoking in all restaurants, food-service establishments, and bars. -
