  1. Fergie closes in on Berbatov and Roy's keen to strengthen his squad By Dave Smith 18-07-08 Sir Alex Ferguson has given a strong indication that Dimitar Berbatov will be a Manchester United player 'in the near future' - and it's hard to see Spurs resisiting a £20milllion+ offer. "We have made Tottenham an offer on Berbatov and we have good expectations that this deal will go through," said the United boss. "Berbatov has been impressive during a long time and would be a great addition to our attack." Fergie is happy to bide his time to ensure he gets his man and he adds: "I think time will work for us more than against us. We will not stress this situation. We are hoping to have a constructive conversation with Tottenham in the near future." Still with United and, virtually 16 months since he was injured, Gary Neville is back in business and will play in South Africa after completing 45 minutes against Aberdeen. "For Gary in particular this trip is very important," said Ferguson. "He came through his 45 minutes at Aberdeen on Saturday with no problem at all, which is fantastic news. "The great thing about Gary is that he has not missed a training session since the last time he came back in April. We could have played him at the end of the season but Wes was doing so well. "His form was so good I didn't want to have doubts in my mind about picking him. Wes had played in every game, so we kept it like that. But now, a new season is about to start and Gary will get his chance." Meanwhile, former United skipper Roy Keane is eyeing 'five or six' new players as he bids to change history' at Sunderland. It's been reported that the Black Cats' boss has approached Spurs with offers for four of their players - Steed Malbranque, Pascal Chimbonda, Younes Kaboul and Teemu Tainio. Keane is eager to bolster his squad, particularly given the news that Kenwynne Jones will miss the first couple of months of the season, and he says: "The next two or three weeks are a vital part of the future of Sunderland and my future. "I know they are working extremely hard and had some very good bids turned down. It's all very well trying hard and nearly having these deals. The real dealmakers get over the line. "Supporters say we don't get these deals done and history tells you we don't, but that's why I'm here - to change history. I'm confident Niall Quinn can get the deals we're after, perhaps in the next 48 hours. I want real quality, players who have handled the Premier League. I'm hoping to get five or six players I'm interested in." Middlesbrough boss Gareth Southgate must be getting thoroughly cheesed off answering questions about the future of Stewart Downing - especially as the England winger only recently signed a new, five-year deal. Speculation still links Downing with possible moves to Liverpool or Aston Villa, at the latest count, but Southgate says: "Stewart Downing is not for sale, it is as simple as that. We know his value. We get calls from lots of clubs about people, but we have not had any about Stewart. "It surprises me when there is all the speculation because if people are interested in buying, it would be nice if they made contact with us and then we could just tell them straight to their face that he is not for sale. But that's part of the summer transfer merry-go-round. You have to deal with that speculation."
  2. We were good in last years friendlies and the first few games.
  3. Last year took it out of me the most because i genuinely believed we would do something with our season.
  4. I have been told that he is fine with Ipswich and all personal agreed. Apparently NUFC are asking for too much mainly because Ipswich have a new rich owner aswell. So its stalling on how much NUFC want for him.
  5. McCormick is understood to have been returning home to Coventry following the wedding celebrations of former team-mate and Ipswich Town player, David Norris, which were held at the Reebok Stadium in Bolton. http://www.eveningstar.co.uk/content/eveningstar/news/story.aspx?brand=ESTOnline&category=News&tBrand=ESTOnline&tCategory=News&itemid=IPED09%20Jun%202008%2011%3A26%3A42%3A053
  6. Do you not mean Dyer. Saha can play, he is just injured alot.
  7. Lennon or Milner ? This in reply to everyone in general really. On the few occasions this year I have seen Pennant play he has set up goals, one for Gerrad I can remember cutting back across 18yd box after a good run and beating 2 defenders and once a nice cross to land on Kuyts head I think. I don`t watch that many Liverpool games as I find them boring and Rafa`s tatics annoying. I`m sure he is better than some make out on here. I don`t usually use youtube but here is a video some pennant stalker has made. Some other vids I just watched it seems he is a corner taker aswell which we need, i`m sick of watching Emre, Geremi and Milner either never clearing the first man or over hitting it. <Sorry, football clips are not allowed on the forum.> End product looks better than what I have seen Milner put in. Don`t get me wrong Milner is 200% when he plays for us but remember that string of about 10 games where he just couldn`t beat anyone once he got to the 18yd box. As for Lennon I have seen even less of but from what I remember he was very impressive for England when he was brought on but i`m sure I have seen him come on for Tottenham and just not produce anything apart from some really fast running.
  8. Blimey.. What's he done to you? Bummed your girlfriend?
  9. I think it would be good considering the choice we realistically will have. Skill and ability wise he is ahead of Milner and is fast.
  10. Heard a rumour today and those that know me know I don`t post rumours unless I think they are reliable (Owen and Joquin although nothing happened) . Anyway a business associate of mine lives on the same road/area as a few of the Liverpool players. He reckons we have Pennant already sorted. He is house hunting in Newcastle, so he could end up with us,boro or the mackems. Discuss the player not my source or how much shit you may think i`m talking, those who know who I know and how little I bother to post will know there maybe something in it. Myself I wouldn`t mind a fast winger and would be pleased with the signing.
  11. hahaha "Julio Arca's mate". And to carry on the mackem link, Tore Andre Flo. Somewhere between £8-10m and 4 goals. I know we've had some shite signings, but its always good to divert the attention. Alan Smith 6mill 0 Goals
  12. I was having a friendly chat with a friend of mine who supports Tottenham, just pointed out we are level on points now. I get this for a reply "lol lol that must be like winning the carling cup n qualifieing for europe to the geordies eh.....kevin keegan the messiah" So I sent him this "(lol) yeah all good, just think 15 more seasons in europe for tottenham and they might just seed as high as newcastle" 1 AC Milan Bitmap ITA 26 14 27 21 24 112 21,808 133,808 1 2 FC Barcelona Bitmap SPA 26 12 13 29 14 94 25,374 119,374 2 3 Liverpool Bitmap ENG 17 11 25 13 24 90 22,618 112,618 6 4 Internazionale Bitmap ITA 23 13 18 19 13 86 21,808 107,808 4 5 Arsenal Bitmap ENG 14 14 14 27 13 82 22,618 104,618 7 6 Real Madrid Bitmap SPA 22 17 14 12 14 79 25,374 104,374 3 7 Chelsea Bitmap ENG 2 19 20 13 23 77 22,618 99,618 14 8 Manchester United Bitmap ENG 23 12 12 8 22 77 22,618 99,618 8 9 Valencia Bitmap SPA 22 25 10 17 74 25,374 99,374 9 10 Olympique Lyon Bitmap FRA 8 14 20 21 15 78 17,706 95,706 10 11 Newcastle United Bitmap ENG 12 21 22 17 72 22,618 94,618 18 12 Juventus Bitmap ITA 24 10 19 18 71 21,808 92,808 5 55 Tottennham Hotspur FC Bitmap ENG 18 18 22,618 40,618 http://www.europeancups.altervista.org/rankings/team%20ranking%202007.htm Anyway the main point of my thread was that I can`t remember how the ranking works. Also how come we havn`t free fallen from our position ? Is it because of the intertoto ?
  13. I have just been discussing this with a scouse m8 of mine. Liverpool to win tonight only because they are less boring. Roll on tomorrow night, can`t wait for some attractive football.
  14. Close call............I picked Beye as most important player not to get injured in that other thread.
  15. I was looking up stats for the Arsenal forwards and it seems Fergie feels Arsenals problems are due to injuries as I do. http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11661_3413764,00.html
  16. You're comparing Arsenal's 2nd and 3rd choice strikers with Liverpool's 1st and 2nd choice, so its not exactly a fair comparison. Kuyt and Crouch would be closer to the truth... So your counting Emmanuel Adebayor as their best forward, maybe this season as he has been in form, but I would rate Persie and Eduardo as better if they were injury free.
  17. Wenger has had some big injury problems this year aswell. Van Persie out alot and Eduardo would have come in handy against Liverpool. Also Eboue has lost it for some reason. Gilberto has been out as well as others. Would Liverpool done as well with out an in form Torres and Kuyt ?
