Times have changed. The supporters have not been given any real reason to get behind players, and they really really haven't. Not one player was exempt from criticism this season - even Shay! That said, the fans should support the team irrespective of how good they are. That isn't to say they can't have an opinion/criticise etc - they do/did pay the money to see the side, but there's a time and place IMO.

The crucial point you make is new full-backs IMO. Playing non-4-4-2 would ultimately mean the temptation to hit the ball fruitlessly long to Owens/Martin, would be huge, unless we have international class full-backs. Historically, we never invest heavily in these positions though, always preferring loans, paltry sums, makeshift players etc.

Milner was exceptionally pissed with Solano for large parts of the game. Taylor kept lecturing Carr too. Another Villa-gate looked round the corner IMO...!
