Always been such nonsense. There are far more reasoning's to base your selection on then purely because it's a team that's won one match particularly as your next opponent will often pose a completely different threat and have completely different weakness's along with many other reasons.... Chris Hughton vocation is coaching to be out training the players and not picking the team his selections have shown why coaches don't pick teams. A long term appointment and figure head for this club to move forward must be the boards priority in the coming weeks instead of waiting for Joe Kinnear to be healthy enough to manage the club if its not then it could cost the club very dear.

Agree he continues to impress me its a shame his "International" partner continues to put in performances of such poor standard. That's an over the top criticism of Colo. He's had a few shaky games, and even a shocker (Liverpool) but today his performance was more than adequate, I'd say he was pretty good. He did nowt wrong. It was yet another shaky one to add to that increasingly long list. His distribution above else was dreadful today not surprised in the slightest he has been dropped all together from the Argentinian national squad its a shame our current management hasn't the courage to do the same and oust him from the side.

Are Spurs doing much better under Redknapp now? In any case this is a non-story, pure back page speculation used to fill a few column inches. well yeah they are doing slightly better, no longer bottom are they? - Besides, just because Redknapp hasn't done loads better it doesn't change the fact that Ramos was poor at communicating with players and things didn't work out this season in a particularly bad way. I'd see him coming here as a big gamble, given the troubles were in. But your right, it's a non-story... something to sell papers. How are they doing better? Harry had a nice honeymoon period followed by a slump. Ramos had an even better honeymoon period where they won the FA cup and looked a decent side for a while, then had a slump. I don't think either are the answer FWIW. Ramos is too Spanish and Redknapp is Tottenham's version of Joe Kinnear. One of my very good friends is a Tottenham supporter and he was in no doubts they were getting relegated under Ramos. Although not clear of relegation it wouldn't surprise me if we see Tottenham pushing on under Harry Redknapp next season certainly a forward thinking appointment though unlike Joe Kinnear.

Reminds me of an away match that Chinese skills person doing all those tricks at half time someone singing "can you score a can you score a can you score a f**king goal" I thought surely singing it at Gutierrez would of been more appropriate....

He's quite right though his delivery is utterly dreadful and his goals return well..........

As much as I love him, and Im not complaining that he's got it, but it should have went to Bassong I reckon. Agree not only has he been the most consistent performer but his performance against Sunderland was arguably the most standout performance of the season so far for me.

And the rest of us. CP40 has to be out stalking Kev's big birthday bash surely.

Pre Match: Newcastle United vs Everton - see OP for N-O podcast!
Gallowgate End replied to joeyt's topic in Football
I'd also like to see Gutierrez in this role either side of a three he hasn't any kind of delivery to be playing as a Winger; although I'd like to see this when the trio of Michael Owen, Obafemi Martins and Mark Viduka are all fit to play up top. When all fit... Harper Coloccini Bassong Beye Enrique Butt Barton Gutierrez Owen Viduka Martins For Everton... Harper Coloccini Bassong R.Taylor Enrique Nolan Butt Gutierrez Duff Viduka Martins -
Jonas for free is probaly better. Bassong has been fantastic. He was a quite well-known talent for a few years before we signed him, so I was surprised that we got him for so cheap. Probaly a result of Metz going down, as this could not have done wonders for their finances. Don't think Coloccini has been all that bad in my opinion. Not what I'd had hoped for. (Hopefully he'll become more comfortable soon), but certainly no where near one of our worst signings. His fee is yet to be established correct? I've said it many times for me Gutierrez isn't half as good as people say he is the main reasoning being he hasn't provided or scored nearly enough goals for a player who plays as a Winger. We got Jonas for free under the Webster ruling, but Mallorca are basically suing for the 8 million pounds other clubs were willing to pay. We followed the rules though, so I can't see them winning anything. Jonas hasn't provided enough in terms of production, but I'm in the camp of people who thinks that isn't his fault. He's been fine when playing with the "good" strikers and when he had some freedom. Lately he's been recognised as our only threat and pretty much double teamed the enitre match. I'm sorry but he is playing as a Winger and when wide he has no delivery whatsoever nor any idea when to deliver if you look at his mere three assists they were all from passes don't get me wrong though I think he is a decent player with some terrific attributes those being his stamina, turn of pace also for a tall player he has great feet but his short passing is far far better then his long passes and for these reasons I'd like to see him given a role as a forward runner either side of a 4-3-3 this something maybe to consider when Michael Owen, Obafemi Martins and Mark Viduka are all fit.

Didn't hear KK moaning about that one, then! I've been really impressed by him he looks to be a terrific talent I wasn't surprised to read he is a graduate of the Clairefontaine youth academy. Best piece of business in terms of value for money in quite a while. Coloccini however has been a parallel opposite.

One of very few in the current squad the board should be looking to keep long term. However I wouldn't be surprised if this is his last season at the club given the current turmoil at board and managerial level. Currently we can't attract Michael Owen or Obafemi Martins to sign new contracts until a permanent managerial appointment is made by the board that shows some sort of ambition long term.

Joe Kinnear has triple heart bypass surgery, home on Sunday
Gallowgate End replied to JH's topic in Football
dont be daft, Kinnear's a grown man and makes his own decisions Aye but Kinnear doesn't strike me as the man who would want to quit. I expect his health will be his priority and rightly so I'll be very surprised if he doesn't do the honorable thing and step aside/resign. -
It gets messy with swaps that is why they are rarely done clubs prefer to negotiate one deal at a time Yeah imagine that our own board trying not to do everything possible to get that deal to go through. They have been totally and utterly weak regards getting the best possible deal for our most consistent performer and one of the best in his position in our league of the last 10 years. Surprise that.........

Agree thought he was quite outstanding today.

My word what a incredibly pathetic agent. Just another case of a player being very badly advised. -
Shay Given signs for Manchester City for £5.9m plus add-ons
Gallowgate End replied to a topic in Football
I don't think Shay Given should be sold for anything less then £20 million considering the price they paid for Bellamy at £14 million and Bridge at £11 million. Last nights non appearance though has made things even more difficult for the club, it certainly looks like Shay has refused to play. -
Please enlighten me to which one of the top 4 he is going to exactly........... ? Why top 4? Aston Villa and Man City offer better prospects than Newcastle. He would only go to one of the Big 4 clubs I would of thought and those clubs interest is unlikely.
