    Wise Gone

I think the main reason for ill feeling towards him was that his tenure directly coincided with a pretty miserable spell at this club. He was also pretty strongly implicated in a number of things that seemed to be going wrong. Communication has been one of the main problems in the "Ashley era" (since CM left at least) and the fact that no-one has the slightest clue what Dennis did or didn't do in his time here seems to typify that, making him and his role the epitomy of many of the club's recent failings. An easy scapegoat in other words, hiding the true problems perhaps.

Too gutless to justify such a position, of course... You do realise it's an unofficial fansite?
  3. If those mobile charges are true I'm going to do my nut. The useless cunts have kept me on hold for 45 minutes, even though I was apparently 25th in the queue. I've been first in the queue for almost 5 minutes. CUNTS.
  4. Oh aye, I forgot about him. Remember one of his first games and Wise tried to bully him, looked ridiculous Wise trying to eyeball someone 2ft taller than him. tbf Shola worked well when he played with Shearer
  5. Didn't ever doubt that we'd win tonight tbh. Capello really seems to have installed that winning mentality. Surprised to see us even concede, bit dodgy from both Johnson and Rio.
  6. Are the black armbands for the Ivory Coast tragedy?
  7. We've still got all the players (bar Faye) who played it under KK.... (I realise not all are fit)

    This down for anyone else?
  9. The key for me is getting a good manager in. this easy. Lets hope those pesky other 16 or 17 premiership clubs don't get the same idea. Edit.....I'll amplify this, and say every manager has to be backed by his board, whether they are good or not. Except Arsene Wenger seemingly... Well, he has been backed. But if you mean he has been successful with a club run on Ashley-type prudency, lets go and look for someone just like him, I'm sure there are plenty around that we will discover before everyone else. Easy isn't it ? I was only being pedantic, expressing my admiration for what Wenger has done with no money. I've agreed with you on the need for backing managers many a time in the past. It's clearly essential, although there are times when restraint should be shown.

    OK Then

sadly I agree too with the reality that some of them will want to go. I pretty much agree with this. Would be well worth holding on to R Taylor imo, has struggled so far but plenty enough quality for that division and could cover for loads of positions. They'd pretty much all want off though. Smith and Ryan Taylor have the sort of character to get back up, but in Smiths case his injury has hit him badly, and I wonder if his lack of success here has gone so far there is any way back for him now. Getting back will be far from automatic. It will need someone to make a few good signings and know what he is doing. I can't believe I'm saying this again. And promotion is only the start, its nothing really, yet it will be made out to be glory glory or something. Smith fucked off the second his hometown club got relegated, I can't see him wanting to stick around here if someone would buy him. He did have a much better rep back then mind. Don't disagree with anything about the promotion bar the point Dave's already made.

    Owen

From what I remember, Shearer's "on-the-field" captaincy mainly just consisted of glaring or shouting at his wingers when they didn't put the ball on a plate for him. More than Owen, then. Shearer was a real leader of men imo. Perhaps i should have said matchday, as opposed to on the field. I bet he was a force in the dressing room n'all. Made more of a difference to our run in that got us 7th in our final season than Roeder in my particularly speculative opinion.

    Financial meltdown?

Come on Skirgey, everyone knows that getting relegated is hardly a profitable plan.

    Owen

Yep, and I don't think Owen played in as good a Newcastle side as what Shearer did, so it's a shocking comparison tbh. I'm sure if Owen, even today, had Robert, Bellamy, Solano, Speed & Dyer around him, he'd still easily get 15-20 a season while fit. Stick Shearer in this team, and he'd struggle to 10. Depends what Shearer you mean tbh. I agree the comparison doesn't make a great deal of sense mind.

Was that when Dabizas got sent off in the 3rd minute? That one was 5-2 iirc, Shearer got a brace.

    Something needs doing.

That's because the only alternative was accepting that we were fucked. Too many optimists in the world for that to happen with everyone.
  20. Taking a different role next season would be Ashley's way of realising he got it wrong with Kinnear and trying to save face imo. That's assuming he appoints someone credible mind.

I've said that a few times. A little hint: people don't always mean what they say. What would you get out of finding it anyway? huh dude? what did they mean then when the argued with me line by line that we would beat spurs? i stand by what i write, even when i'm pissed and writing shite...surely everyone should do that or retract? (as i do when i'm sober) Sometimes people post things with their tongue in their cheek. i'm assuming you're one of the people i'm recalling? however there was no tongue in cheek in this...is there a tutorial about how to properly search old threads 'cause i think people who argued in january that we'd do spurs and stay up easily deserve outing personally I don't think I ever actually argued with you about it, I do enjoy saying we always beat spurs though. I did think we'd stay up easily come start of January tbh, I've got no shame in admitting it, everyone gets stuff wrong when trying to predict the future. I thought we'd spend more (some) money, have fewer injuries and generally play less like nincompoops. Looks like it wasn't to be. I reckon it's about 50-50 now, the fact that there are a fair few teams who could go down is in our favour, but it certainly looks grim.
