Be mad to sell him.

They're a club owned by a billionaire, Newcastle are a club owned by a billionaire... Abramovich has a net worth of 18.7bln while Ashley has a net worth of 2.0bln. So you're saying 2 billion isn't a huge amount? Ashley obviously thinks we are a serious long term investment. 100 mill is a very possible outlay this summer in my opinion. And it's not THAT much at the top end, these days.

Never heard that one, like. And it isn't like there are no serious scrappers at Arsenal, Chelsea, West Ham, Millwall...

Spare me the sweet talk. I only go for intelligent types with a decent sense of humour.

Are these the words you whisper longingly late at night when you're all alone, gazing up at that poster on the wall...?

nope, do you now concede your idol was wrong to sell little Craigy baby On planet NE5, sadly for you, the statistics still read that Dougie [and Freddie] ran the club for a period where we qualified for europe more than everybody but 4 clubs, and more times than since european competition began 50 years ago With this factual statement, I suggest you call it a day ref this discussion, and attempt to make more worthwhile discussion in future. I've not really the time or inclination to correct you any more. Thanks and good night Correcting what? I simply implied that I was glad to be rid of that waste-of-space Dougie Hall, and you started gibbering on about Souness. If that ugly rich-kid retard was trying to do anything useful in his Gibraltar office while Shepherd was busy presiding over the catastrophic five-year decline that has brought us to where we are now, he obviously wasn't very good at it.
-
Yep, Souness was a useless cunt and I'm glad to be rid of him, too. On Planet NE5 does that make it OK for Dougie "the idiot son" Hall to be a useless cunt as well?
-
Well, there's one worthless, lying parasite we've finally seen the back of. your'e talking about your idol Souness I take it No, I was talking about that dickheaded fantasist Douglas Hall. More your sort, clearly.

In other words, whatever happens, appointing him was the right thing to do. If he succeeds, he's a genius, if he fails, it's someone else's fault. Easy fodder this for NE5. Like you say, if Keegan succeeds, he's right. If Keegan fails, he'll claim he's right about our new board. Aye, as a general rule of thumb on Planet NE5, if The Magnificent Shepherd is in charge, anything that goes wrong is someone else's fault. But if someone else is in charge, everything is their fault.

Sam Allardyce - ‘It was like trying to build Empire State in a month’
OzzieMandias replied to Thespence's topic in Football
You'd need a Catholic priest for that. -
Michael Owen? Bear in mind we signed Owen pre-injury, when he was still a really top class striker. People have a go at NE5 for turning threads into long, cyclical Shepherd guff-fests, and rightfully so because he does. But honestly, what the fuck do people expect with people making posts like this? About 2 minutes pre-injury. Anyway, I would have Henry at Newcastle in a flash, but why the heck would he want to come here? At one time he would have come here just for the honour of playing for Fat Fred, but of course that golden age is now history.
-
I agree with NE5 that it's ridiculous to describe Henry as an "FS type signing". Shepherd was way too ham-fisted an operator to attract a player that good.
-
It's a sellers' market, though. The game is awash with cash and there aren't enough top quality players to go around. It's the kind of environment in which ten-percenters thrive.
-
Unless they grew up as supporters, any loyalty from players is more likely to be to a man than to a club. This might sometimes be to an owner or chairman, but is more often to a manager, especially one who might have mentored them through a youth system or rehabilitated them after a bad patch elsewhere. We've been changing managers too often for any such loyalty to accrue.

It's like Pavlov's Poster.

Shepherd didn't appoint Dalglish.

This is like saying "stop driving cars on roads". -
Dalglish might have worked out for us if Shepherd hadn't sacked him a few games into the 98-99 season right after giving him loads of transfer cash.

Would we be in the same situation had Allardyce still been here?
OzzieMandias replied to Dave's topic in Football
Fairly balanced view IMO. But that's not what is supposed to happen, everyone should have a diametrically opposed viewpoint in order that a thread can extend to 40 pages plus of bickering and swearing. I disagree completely. -
Ridsdale showed ambition, backed his manager and brought Leeds CL football. Where's the problem?
