There no longer loads of threads moaning about the board because basically there's no need for them anymore. Shepherd is history.

Yep, that was the point that we tipped into the decline we're still trying to clamber out of.

Well, the guy who bought Smith is history, the guy who appointed the guy who bought Smith is history, and hopefully soon Smith will join them on the underachieving ash-heap of times gone by.

Is N'Zogbia's exit inevitable? (Maybe not - Page 24!)

Ollie Bernard Part II. -
Luckily that's not what the thread is about, then. Yeah, your brain seems to turn into mush.

The main thing this thread proves is that bigots are dense.

I am absolutely certain he will get a few knocks again soon. He "could" do a Woodgate and have a real turnaround but I just don't see it. Do a Woodgate? Has Woodgate's fitness improved? I thought he's pretty much another perma-crock in Spurs defence (King?). Perhaps Woodgate should do an "Owen". What is it now, 16 matches on a run? I think that's the best run Owen's had in five or six years (touch wood). Maybe he really has finally put all those problems behind him. If goes to the end of the season without an injury, Michael Owen will have played every match, including a few internationals, from 1 January through close of season. Not a bad record, given his history. Well worth the risk for next season. I don't think it will occur to the club to cut Owen's wages. Keegan wants to keep him. He's marketable as f***, so I can't imagine Ashley (who has stock in Umbro and Umbro pays Owen 1 mil a year in sponsorship, until he's 40, Ashley would be well aware of Owen's marketability) would consider it wages poorly spent -- compare to Duff, Smith, even Barton (a good player but not...quite the right image). Money isn't that tight, I should think, that his wages will infringe on the ability to pay other players. Cutting Owen's wages would be seen in one of three ways -- 1) "revenge" for his injuries, 2)financial trouble behind the scenes, or 3)pushing him out of the club. Not the image the club needs or wants at this point, if they are trying to attract top players. Forget whether you think he's been overpaid, that's already happened, and deal with the reality of consequences of docking his wages. Good point, earlier, that Owen really seems to have the respect of his teammates as well. Clearly, he's earning their respect, and Keegan's. Mort and Ashley will see that, and the improved fitness, performance, and his marketability. Why cut his wages? Offer him the same pay (or maybe a pittance more to keep him well clear as the "best paid" if that's an issue), get rid of the buy-out/sell-on clauses, and I'm content. To me, that's an equal showing of commitment -- from the club, to pay him what the market says a top international player and club captain is worth (however silly the money) and from the player, to abandon his 'get-out' clauses from before and dedicate himself to Newcastle. And maybe, if he signs a new contract, the paper talk will finally shut the f*** up every f***ing transfer window about where Owen's supposedly off to next. Owen is paid Big 4 salary (or Spurs or West Ham, both 10 and 11 actually). And he's the sort of player Newcastle need if they want to get near to the Big 4 on the table. Ante up, or leave the game. Simple as. As for the concern about players seeing he's overpaid -- I'd worry more in that instance about overpaying Duff and Smith, who aren't even in the XI, let alone contributing near to the level of Owen, or Martins (who is paid less than they are). Having the captain and best player being the best remunerated player seems appropriate to me.

We should do whatever is necessay to keep him.

Oh, I reckon Heysel, and British clubs being banned from Europe for years, are pretty solid reasons for disliking Liverpool fans. That and the dumb combination of fatuous arrogance and whining victimhood.

There IS something slightly Mephistophelian about his new(ish) facial hair.

Liverpool-Chelsea is one of those ties where I can't find a reason to want either team to win.

Hope you make it some day and have a great trip.

I used to hate Arsenal and Man U more than I do at the moment. I currently hate Chelsea and Liverpool more than I used to. Always hated Spurs. Still do. Also hate Leeds, West Ham, Bayern Munchen, Ferencváros, Rangers, Lazio, Real Madrid, Stevenage and Sunderland.

How Would You Feel About Winning The Title For Man U?
OzzieMandias replied to Shak's topic in Football
Man U or Chelsea. It's just Coke or Pepsi. One red brand and one blue one. -
It's also just them trying to make Villa Park a friendly place for the folk who live near the ground. What's wrong with that?

How Would You Feel About Winning The Title For Man U?
OzzieMandias replied to Shak's topic in Football
I always want us to win every game (even when we've got a shite manager). That aside, helping Man U win the title or helping Chelsea win the title. What's the difference?
