  1. Would be more convincing if the backdrop was green and not dark grey.
  2. Damn that made me emotional. We are rightly hyper-critical of our terrible football songs these days, but "You're just a shit Coloccini" has to be up there with the best.
  3. I'm thinking peripheral vision. A player isn't going to be as visible on a green pitch from the corner of your eye as if he was wearing a contrasting colour. Every split second counts I would have thought.

    NUFC Transfer Rumours

FFP is a good idea in principle. In reality though, it's just locked in the advantages for those who have already spent their way to the top.
  5. Saw the highlights of the match against Gateshead, and I still don't understand how the PL can allow green strips. Nowt against the colour, I think the shirt looks fine, but must be a pain to pick out team mates on a grass pitch which is more or less the same colour.

He won't be so not even worth answering at this point. Quote me if that turns out to be wrong.
  7. Tbf, it's probably worth a shot for the accuser, what have they got to lose? Obviously not that much.
  8. I think for the MLS the challenge will always be for a homegrown love for the game to get it to grow strong roots there. My impression is that in the US the love in North America is mainly from those who have football through their ancestral heritage, so can imagine there would be lots of interest in European clubs, but it still seems to play second fiddle to American Football, baseball and basketball as a major sport.
  9. Well that's capitalism in a nutshell, footballers are going to SA for money, which is how capitalism works. It's how our whole way of life is set up basically, which is why we'll go along with most stuff even at govt level as long as there's enough money in it. How else did the Premier league get to be the most successful in the world?
  10. I guess it depends on what you consider is the more attractive culture. My view is that the world is moving in a more accepting and modern direction including Saudi Arabia, and therefore I see the place opening up rather than closing down.

    Harvey Barnes

Yep. Saw it the same way. He's basically going to bring everything that the likes of Miggy and Maxi don't provide on a regular enough basis. Maybe not as flamboyant or exciting as ASM, but I'll bet he can go past players when he needs to as well.
  12. This whole debate around Saudis ploughing billions into football is an interesting one though. You just have to look at the PL club following around the world to see there is a massive and growing fanbase across Asia and Africa for football. It makes sense for projects like the Saudi Pro League to try and get their own thing going, although it's a huge undertaking. China tried to do something similar, but maybe for political reasons decided to focus on developing locally first which for them probably makes more sense.
  13. Why would they need to spend billions on buying football clubs to change them into Wahabist cranks? I really don't see any chain of thought where that would work.

And his wages. Same for all of our deadbeats unfortunately, Ashley signed off on these contracts because he thought with Bruceball we survive with a bit of luck and Maxi magic. Let's not forget we were dishing out uncalled for new contracts to Jonjo and Ritchie as well on the same premise. Keep us up boys and we'll pay you more than you'll get at a proper club.

Yep. Obviously we aren't going to be selling players for the sake of it, we would only sell if we had identified someone who is an upgrade.
  16. That's a decent one, mainly because of Alex who provides the football knowledge part, and there's also Loaded Mag, I just like the guys who do it, they all seem to know their football so their opinions on potential transfers are usually worth a watch. I don't really watch any others tbh.

And if we can't sell them, they'll be important first team contenders for the CL campaign. Hardly a disaster if we don't get replacements considering they are proven players at this level.
  18. Really? You would imagine anything which affects their recruitment plans or potentially strengthens their rivals hands would make them slightly twitchy. I can imagine the Saudis might not be that arsed as they will be looking at the bigger picture from their own POV, football in SA over Newcastle United, however much their stake in a PL club is important in it's own right.
  19. This is the problem with all of our players who we would like to move on tbh. Hayden, Lewis, Fraser, even Lascelles. All of them are capable of doing a good job for a championship club but no one wants to pay those sort of wages down there unless the player is outstanding.
  20. Not surprised since most are expecting 4-5 signings with those two maybe being the two big buys of the summer. He's just being his usual WUM self by putting that shit narrative when there's no reason to think those will be the only two signings.
