  1. Yeah but you don't believe he could have been as good as Gerrard, surely? Or, more to the point, a better midfielder than Rob Lee?
  2. Smith and Ameobi up front. Owen on the wing.
  3. What a decison by Rob Styles there.
  4. Why would he have to drop a decent player? Because he has to drop one of Duff, Milner, and Zog? Not the most difficult of decisions. seems pretty hard to me Put it this way: I'd give Duff away for nothing tomorrow if there was a club stupid enough to take him. I think Duffs been pretty much our only half decent player during these times. Actually trying to do something. He has the advantage of being a very busy-looking player, in that he moves in a very spritely fashion while really not being likely to create much. As bad as the rest of them in recent weeks.
  5. Honestly, I couldn't give a shit what we do with him.

    Steven Taylor

I've been a fan of Taylor's but he's not even at the point where he's not progressing anymore, he's actually moving backwards at this point. That said, I think Cacapa is pretty desperate as well. Intelligent player but hasn't got the pace or power for the league IMO, any striker with a bit of pace or strength will dominate him. Faye looks our best CB, and even then I'm not sure how good he is. Edit: Nice typo on Taylor there.

    Aiden McGeady

I've never seen him have a good game for Ireland, not once. Apparently tears it up every week in the SPL, but we all know the standard there. I'd be inclined to believe there are a number of better players we could get for £12m, though being Irish I hope he turns out to be a superstar obviously. Won't be holding my breath though, Hunt from Reading has always impressed me more at International level and he's hardly dynamite is he?
  8. is there good AIDS ? It's a Brass Eye reference. Good AIDS = HIV, Bad AIDS = the full-blown virus. "Sorry, you've got bad aids, you shouldn't have come here."
  9. You're blatantly a good luck charm then. Anyway, I'd have to agree that locals can have a much deeper attachment to the club than I am capable of having. Something about growing up with it as part of your every day life that someone like me, who rarely hears much about Newcastle unless I go looking for it, can never have. That said, I don't necessarily think that just being a native makes you instantaneously a more devoted, or "true" if you will, fan. I don't doubt for one second that there are people who live in Newcastle and support the team that aren't really as bothered what ultimately happens to them at the end of the day as I am.
  10. Much as I'm not a massive fan of Milner, I'd agree with that. Can play both sides and even up front or through the middle in a pinch as well.
  11. Who said evil gloryhunter, or are you just the kind of f****** cretin who likes to pretend people have said things when they haven't? IMHO, you support the team from where you come (or have strong familial ties to). Thats how i was brought up, thats how things should be IN MY OPINION. If you choose to SELECT someone else to support other than your local team, thats up to you. But don't expect everyone else to think you're f****** ace to do so. I have no family ties to any footballing cities or teams, all my relatives support either Liverpool or Man U. Should I be supporting them then? Ireland, where I come from, has no football league of any standard worth watching to me, and my local club is comprised of players I played against and was every bit as good as as a youngster. Who, in your opinion, should I be supporting then? Genuine questions by the way, try to remain somewhat composed and courteous in your response if that's at all a manageable goal.
  12. I coul probably play for my local team if I wanted, so you'll forgive me for finding someone else to focus my support on. Does this make me an evil gloryhunter then, Northern Monkey?
  13. I must say I don't tbh, but Totti has always played brilliantly against lesser teams when I've watched him, then fails to show up against the better sides. I dunno, maybe I'm watching the wrong games? Gave up following Italian football about two years ago so most of this perception is from before then.

    Arsenal

I hope Arsenal win it, but they really are some set of moaners tbh. Much moreso than Man U in all fairness. Play great football though, and Wenger is a legend, so that's more important for me.
  15. You don't think we need another striker, Baggio?
  16. Mick McCarthy. Brian Kerr, Steve Staunton, Giovanni Trapattoni. Spot the odd one out like. (That said, Mick McCarthy did a fantastic job for us in my opinion.)
  17. Agree. Sad a state of affairs as it may be, we have no choice but to play Nicky Butt at the moment as he's the only one who has any ability whatsoever to play the holding role. Faye is an option I'd like to see there, but we need a change at CB as well as Taylor+Cacapa look like a disaster of a pair. Shame we didn't get Woodgate, really.
  18. plus ugly Plus brilliant footballer. Wouldnt exactly call him "brilliant" tbh. I would. +1
  19. Can't believe anyone actually watched Chelsea v Liverpool. Always an absolutely wretched game.
  20. Barton is a gamble, Enrique shows he could made it in the EPL while Smith is plain s***---but Ashley's shirt and the captaincy seems to show it's his personal favour rather than Sam's. Not backing SA but together with Beye and Faye, are his signings really that bad? My point was more about his ability to spend big money, we know he can find solid, bargain type players. And his big money signings have all failed miserably thus far, although Enrique I do agree can still be a good player for us one day.
  21. To be fair, the three players Allardyce spent any significant money on were Barton, Smith and Enrique. Would you have felt comfortable giving him much more money? He was unlucky with certain things, nobody can be expected to turn things around in 8 months. But in the time he was here he really didn't do himself any favours at all, so trying to totally absolve himself of blame is completely ridiculous.
  22. Duff is far slower than Milner. That's the reason why he never tries to cross. Sorry, but no, he's not. Milner is possibly the slowest winger I've ever seen in my life.
  23. Ah go bum yourself in the face.
  24. Duff and N'Zogbia on the wings and Martins up front is enough pace for any team. We just suck at using pace effectively. Duff isn't fast. Neither player can deliver balls like Petrov either. With have one of the most lead legged teams in the Premiership. I find it funny when people talk about Arsenal not being a particularly pacey team. Everyone of their starting XI is stronger, fitter, faster than ours. We'll get bummed by Manure no question. Duff's hardly slow is he? Not electric fast but give him a couple of yards of a start and he's not gonna get chased down like Milner would for instance. And yeah, we'll almost certainly get bummed by Man U but that wasn't the point I was disputing.
