  1. Portsmouth 7-4 Reading is the one to beat. we’re actually joint second in the highest scoring game rankings, losing 7-3 to Arsenal. Spurs have 2 10 goal premier league games, both wins
  2. You haven't got the FFP bit quite right. Lets ignore wages and make it easy with a £100m sale for a player with no book value left you create a one off profit of £100m. If you gave everyone a 5 year contract you could spend £500m and the in year cost would balance against the sale profit but this is for one year only, you've really got to use that as a catalyst for future income growth or you will be left in year 2 with a cumulative £100m loss problem which then goes to £200m in year 3, £300m in year 4 and 5 as the sale drops out. (All that assumes you start at nil profit or loss and breakeven before this spend each year) Spending anything over what you generate creates a risk so you need to spend it wisely
  3. they’ve got the Barnes and Maddison sales in this year and you’d hope some relegation clauses in there, but they did also spend £40ish in the summer as well. do they have anyone who will bring in decent coin this summer?
  4. Put FFP to one side that statement basically means the auditors can not give any assurance that the club has the finance, or access to finance, that enables it to fund its obligations for 12 months. or in football speak there are no guarantees that they can fulfil their fixtures. the Premier League should be looking at that and deciding if that is a risk they are happy to carry
  5. Welsh sport is having a shit 2024 so far
  6. Jill Scott just sounds like a proud Mum or Aunty talking about Mainoo
  7. I’m sure I read that the rules were that it was the highest placed club that stays in. So ineos wouldn’t have a say if Nice qualified in 5th and ManU in 6th.
  8. i really don’t think that’s a problem in Europa or Conference leagues. we should use it as an opportunity to give some of the u21s match day experience and even a few of them 20 mins here and there. more benefit to that than playing Longstaff for 90 every game, got to see if they have it in them or not
  9. https://www.tragicthesaddening.com/soccer-slammers/p/soccer-slammers-bigmick this is awesome
  10. I’ll see if I can find the report, it was a 2019 paper on how football clubs are leaving millions on the table by not having stadium sponsorship. fwiw it had Brighton’s sponsorship at £1.5m a year and our estimate back then at £3.5m but that was Ashley era and SJP. spurs are allegedly looking for £25m a year
  11. City get over £21m, Arsenal £16m. the overall view is skewed by the fact that it’s not leveraged in the UK, largely due to the age and history of stadia. we won’t get top dollar, but £10m is doable
  12. wtf is that back. It should be an old skool Head holdall
  13. That's probably the answer, have a wages/spend cap based on 80% of the top earner or something but the spend has to be underwritten by cash in escrow or through injected capital
  14. Naming rights is probably the biggest commercial driver to moving. City get £21.5m a year+ for their stadium (that was 2019), Arsenal £16m in the same year. Even allowing for FMV you'd expect £10m for the first 2 years and then assuming we became established top 6 stick another £5m on that. SJP won't get the same value
  15. you might not need to but I’d say we’d want to. It’s the perfect opportunity to give the next gen competitive minutes. if we went through a conference league campaign playing Bruno for 90 minutes every game Howe would want shooting
  16. This is where Conf League or Europa would be great. We can pad the bench with u21s who we think might be the ones to make a step up and bring them on when we are comfortable in games to give them experience. More tricky in the champions league
  17. Sell Longstaff Promote Miley to the Longstaff squad role (as Longstaff should be now) Promote White to the Miley role providing cover off the bench
  18. nah he was just a dick, no playing up to a role at all.
  19. You're missing a bit here, buying a football club is not reducing the choice or reducing the market for customers in a way it would if Tesco took over Sainsbury. The comparison you would need to look at here would be the City owners now buying up the likes of Oldham, Blackburn etc and merging them all into the City umbrella so they become reserve teams or the grounds used for training purposes only. What the City owners have done is come into an industry and offer a premium to purchase the best that is available. That would be fine in pretty much any industry. The problem is with the rules that the PL and UEFA have now put in place that restrict the ability of others to do the same. You can look at whether City have played by PL rules but that is a matter between them and not competition law. The more I think about this the more I'm coming down on a FFP challenge never seeing a court room. If you look at cases on competition law they take forever to get through the system. The UEFA/PL lawyers know that there is at least a 50% chance the rules would be deemed illegal and operate them based on clubs voting them in. What will happen on a challenge is that they will make some quick changes that will soften FMV rules to allow a certain amount of related investment and will change the punishments to be a fine on first breach with an allowance of mitigating circumstances to be remedied within a 12 month period (so for example Forest would be let off by showing the value of player sales after the 1st July etc)
  20. Who do people think the best villain has been in the premier league era? I don’t mean truly awful individuals but those who absolutely play up to the role (or try to). Klopp thinks he is being a clever antagonist but he is in reality just a poor human being. for me it’s 100% Jose as a manager and probably Vinny Jones as a player
  21. If he can’t lift them for 10 games to get a European spot then I think questions do need to be asked unfortunately. i think a lot here are underestimating the risk of players leaving if we don’t get Europe. Not through them requesting transfers necessarily but we in a weak place when others come knocking
