Rio Ave 3 - 1 Newcastle United - post-match RAGING from page 11

From nufc.co.uk lol -
I think he probably is worth £8m myself. But i'd prefer other options. If we lost Cisse though I think that Bent would be ideal. I think at that point someone who would be proven to score goals in the premier league would be really important.

Caulkin said yesterday that they had an 11 v 11 match and one of the two teams would be playing today (perhaps the team that played best). So maybe that's why the team is so varied. -
Indeed that's what I see happening. Except Remy isn't left side. Perhaps it's one out of those 3 plus someone like Sinclair or Ince (or some unnamed player from abroad). I could see that happening. I wouldn't say i'd be happy with that but i'd not be upset particularly. I think it's the best we can hope for.
-
I'd be hugely disappointed if we just sign one striker. It's not that I can't see it happening, I just really think we're in for two attacking players.
-
He was probably terrified of Dave giggsing him.
-
I personally think it'd be all three or similar if we lose Cisse. Maybe i'm an optimist though.
-
I don't think we'll sign those two unless we sell Cisse. Pardew preferred one up front for the most of last season and we won't have three top player for that one role. Remy offers the ability to play as a wide forward which we do need. I think we'll sign one centre forward and one wide forward. Maybe we might sign someone else if we get rid of some of the dross. I agree but this club usually goes for the best deal ahead of what position is more urgent. I agree but the best deal is not neccesarily the cheapest deal. Remy seems to be available for 8-9m, is a bit younger and a good season in the prem could see his value rocket. Bent is 6-8m, 28 and his value i only likely to fall.

Fair enough. It might sound a bit stupid but I would be concerned about the effect on Colo if we sold Jonas.
-
Yeah, "Come on Feel the Moyes" is a little bit rapey for me.
-
Cisse gone if true? We surely couldn't have 3 good strikers. Remy would presumably play in a wide forward role. So: Ben Arfa Cisse Remy (Gouffran) (Gomis) (Obertan) Really need to sell Obertan and pick up another attacking option though.
-
I'm pretty sure that is what he is getting at. If it is then I am mostly in agreement with him. We could stand to lose Gosling in midfield and the forward positions are the positions that need more players.

For those who want a bit more info about the player this has a little bit of info: http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1447637-bafetimbi-gomis-scouting-lyons-freescoring-striker

The problem for Dummett is that we have a younger full back who has played more games at a higher level who acts as backup for Santon. Ultimately though we need four full back options and only have 3. One of Tavernier or Dummett needs to be kept around for backup imo.

I disagree that with Ben Arfa, Marveux, Gouffran and Jonas the wide areas are sorted. I think that Gouffran is decent in the wide forward role but I wouldn't really want him first choice there. I also am not confident about Marveux out wide. Lastly, Jonas has no place in an attacking role in our team at all. Additionally, if we are trying to only sign a couple of players (especially with the excuse of signing quality not quantity) i'd want us to be signing players that are better than those in our starting 11. I personally don't think Bent offers that. I think Remy does and I would be glad to sign him. I also think that signing Bent would help. But I certainly won't be delighted with just those two signings and think we'll regret it across the season.

A good point. The way some people talk, you'd have thought we were a successful club until Ashley came along and messed it all up. We were doing much better. The seven years since ashley took over we've finished in the top half once. The seven years prior we finished in the top half 4 times (including twice in the top 4). Our worst finish was 14th and second worst was 11th. Since Ashley we've finished below 11th 6 out of 7 years (obviously including the year in the championship). Basically it's been a total fuckup.

They lost a lot of player on frees last summer (mostly the overpaid players from the O'Neill era) so that money was spread thinly to boost the squad. Other than Benteke no player cost more than couple million. It was just they bought several players. At least that's how I see it.

I'm sorry but the vast majority of the russian league is utter shite and the top of it is not up there with the top of the portugese league. I'm not sure how you can't see that.
-
I don't know. Lower than England, Germany, France, Spain, Italy, and Russia definitely though. Outside of the European qualifying teams, there is almost nothing. This is irrelevant, though. The crux of what I am saying is that both the Erevidisie and the League in Portugal are significantly weaker than the Premiership and neither of these players will have experienced the week in and week out competition that exists in England. Plenty of players better than these two have struggled when making the move to a bigger league and Wolf hasn't impressed me when I've watched him personally. We'll see though. Honestly, good for Norwich. They've been at the top for a while now, so they should pursue a higher quality of player. All I have said is that there signings are risky. Even Redmond has only been decent at the Championship level, which could be said of Howson and Snodgrass. I'm not having the depth of the Russian league being held over the Portugese league. I'd argue the French league as well but the Russian league point is just not true.
-
The signings of Redmond, Wolfswinkel and Fer, combined with the fact they're trying to get more quality in (even though Alderweireld rejected them at least they agreed a fee and so i'm sure they'll move onto another target) means that I think they have a decent chance of a top ten finish. The major concern is that the next level if there is an injury to these players will be a step down.
-
Ok, so you've arbitrarily decided on your own european ranking system. Where would you rank portugal then?
-
Two players who are completely unproven in the top six leagues of Europe? It is not guaranteed to work, especially with what they will be surrounded by. Wolfwinkel is proven in a top six league. He has a one in two ratio in Portugal.
-
Yep. Gouffran's a very intelligent player, but without goals he's in danger of becoming our Ali Aliadiere. Gouffran did score 3 goals in 14 premier league matches last season, playing almost entirely out wide. While not an amazing return that isn't all that bad for a man changing country and in a team playing really poorly. He also created a few chances with his running such as against Chelsea and put a hell of a lot of work rate in. While he wasn't as good as Sissoko was at times, he probably was pretty consistently decent.

The powerhouse Mike Williamson.
