Champions League 2023/2024: Group F (Newcastle, Milan, Dortmund, PSG)
Yorkie replied to Marko NUFC's topic in Football
Get what you mean but I think, given the strength of Premier League sides these days, we shouldn't really have low expectations against anyone other than the very best. Can we be considered underdogs when we're literally pinching Milan's crown jewels from them? It's almost a shame in a way; a big reason for the excitement in 2002/03 was just how incredible it was that we could beat Juve or go to the San Siro and get a point. Feel like the strength of the PL kinda takes that story away nowadays. Though I do tend to overestimate it's strength in these conversations tbf. -

'Champions League' is an outright nonsensical name and has been since 1999/00 when they started letting four teams from the same nation enter. Arguably since even before, when Runners-Up from certain nations got in (us being in the mix the first time that happened in 97/98). Obviously there isn't a single reason to do it - besides pleasing me - but it would be a laugh if they randomly went back to the first (as in 92-93) format, just for a year. No seeding, one representative from 40 countries; a few two-leg knockout rounds until the final eight play are placed into two groups. The winners of each being in the final. -
A principal concern for me but it's not something that happens across the board.

Feyenoord would be a fantastic draw regardless of whether or not they're the weakest team in pot 1. Massive club with a great kit and stadium plus there'd just be something poetic about it. -
Excited and optimistic about all of our signings but I feel like the jury's out on everyone except Barnes. Hopefully it won't take long for all of them to prove that they're quality signings. The ambition and efficiency continues to be an absolute joy. I'm sure they know that a CB is needed but we undoubtedly needed recruitment in all of the positions we've successfully bought for too; and it's only FFP that's meant we've run out of room for now. Important to add that we've not lost anyone important either. An underrated characteristic of a transfer window in these heady times. No complaints, life is good.

Draw is on TNT Sports next week, btw. I'll be more nervous/excited than I am before a match, no doubt about it. Happy with anyone other than the made up shite like Red Bulls and to a lesser extent PSG. -

Twitter is hateful and you can definitely file it under gobshitery along with the rest of it, but NUFC360's post isn't actually calling out any player, is it? Just fanning a (stupid) debate that was already being had? An act that probably deserves calling out in itself but I think he's a bit unlucky if he's suddenly getting the brunt of it. Bit like that fella who offers to carry the cross in Life of Brian.

What, actually?

There was a lot of academy players during Roeder's time (06/07). Ramage, Taylor, Huntington, Edgar backline of dreams. Also Pattison, O'Brien and Carroll knocking around the same squad. Krul too. Even Lewis Guy got a run-out. Not sure if all of them were fans but it's a pretty well known fact that Tim Krul had a Kevin Carr trump card glued to his locker at Den Haag so jury's out on him.

Cheers, all counts towards the year-end forum stats.

Why isn't he improving? He's done loads of these; is neeone giving him any pointers or what? Honestly, you're looking a gift horse in the mouth if you're not gonna make the best of a gig like that. Hall had already twice said that he can't wait to work with all the class players here before the lad asks him if he's looking forward to working with Trippier. I suppose it's plausible that he's getting no direction whatsoever/he's told to stick exclusively to the questions. It's not like Kingy is that much better. I'd have sympathy with him in that case.

@Jack Flash would be proud.

It's a very fair comment. It's not exactly rich in jeopardy, this thing. I am a bit perplexed as to who the target audience is, like. Really is just NUFCTV with an Amazon budget.

Evening meal would be nice like; too ambitious trying to squeeze it in between #REDBLU and #NEWPAL like we did in April.

I'll start approaching you all directly about non-playing related stuff soon; see who's up for what.

@LFEE can you advise?

I think people have worn moulded previously tbh, I'm not 100% on it, I've always worn astros.
