Brummie made a very good point in the thread about Sebastian Larsson, regarding whether a player is going to take the club to the "next level". I can see how this would apply here, if he's better than what we've got (Shola), then he makes us into a better side, and he would worth spending some money on. Don't know why everyone is panicking, we put a very hefty bid in for Modric, so we know there's money available, but we will need these kinds of signings too to improve our overall squad.

Haven't followed this at all, could someone give me a quick recap? What type of player, how old he is, credibility of rumour etc?
-
Yeah i've been leaning towards France having checked up on the international scene just lately. It'd be interesting to see if Germany can follow up on what was a very promising World Cup. Them and Argentina were the two best teams in that tournament. Benzema to flop. Feel free to quote me on that. What are you basing that on like? Pure guess-work? Not at all. I think for as arrogant as the young french man is, he's being too over hyped, the lads still young and he'll not be ready. Plus it seems alot of his goals come on smaller stages. See i think that arrogance will serve him well. And, of course, it's quite hard scoring in any bigger stage than the Champions League when you're playing in Lyon. Even if he wouldn't go on and have a great EC, I think flop will be harsh, unless he's absolutely gash. If a player is average in his first major tournament at the age of 20, I just don't see how that is a flop. It's not like France are depending on him anyway, they've got two other top-class strikers and one more up and coming, there really isn't much pressure on the lad at all, IMO.

What time is Kick Off?

I really don't understand why everybody are saying that England was rubbish yesterday. Granted, we didn't destroy the yanks, but we won comfortably 2-0. It was a solid performance and these kinds of games are there for the manager to try how he wants the team to play. People need to relax their expectations that as soon as England play, they are going to utterly murder the opposition, it just doesn't happen, especially not with Capello in charge.

Agree about Hargreaves, another excellent performance. He's just a classy player, perfect reading of the game, great tackles and pretty much never gives the ball away.

Doubt it. The f***-wit of a manager will go for Ljunberg and Wilhelmsson on the flanks, and should Ljungberg be injured I can well see Alexanderson playing, as the "experience" is so important for him. Mind, as all I want for the Euros is for Sweden to f*** up as much as possible, this scenario would do me. Why? Because of the winless England vs Sweden run? Larsson will start to the right and Ljungberg to the left. I'd like to see him here. Wonderful free kicks and a solid player who can pass the ball, something that not too many of our players are familiar with. Still think we could find someone better, if we are to replace Geremi. Couldn't care less about the winless run about Sweden. I just really hate the Swedish national-team and that everybody keeps telling me that I should support them. I don't, and I see them in a way like my local rivals. If Ljungberg is fit, I can't see Larsson starting for Sweden tbh. For his sake, I hope he does, as I like the lad, but I'd rather be able to take some cheap-shots against Lagerbäck and Sweden for fucking up if he don't play. PS. I know there's not much I can say, as it'll all backfire with "still better than England!" -
Tbf, we comfortably beat a team that's higher ranked than many of the teams who are in the Euros. Thought England showed, at times, that this team can play some very decent football. The Gerrard-goal was a brilliant build up, and there were a few more times that some very fluent passing led, or almost led, to something. If Capello can build on that, and get them to do it more often, it could be a joy to watch England play.

The Swedish ones hasn't mentioned it either, even though that's pretty much all they've had to say about any other yank-player. Good goal from Terry, but not much else to get excited about. Lovely pass from Rooney to Gerrard for the Defoe-chance though, pure class. Get Beckham and one of Hargreaves, Gerrard and Lampard (preferably one of the last two) and get Bentley and Cole on, bring some flair into the team.

I quite like him, tbh, and you won't find me saying that about many Swedish players. He's got a quality touch, very good set-pieces, is young and will see us as a step up. Probably not the kind of player that will take us to the next level, but he would be a very good squad-player and would probably get quite a few games. For anything less than £4m, I'd see him as a great addition to the squad. -
If its any comfort, I knew what you meant straight from the off and it feels like Enrique was just nit-picking.

Like the fucking Mail were at the game. Great journalists if all they were doing was sitting with binoculars looking at our scouting-team
-
I was just thinking the same, man!

Where could they leave to exactly?? They could not go dashing off abroad easily as the rule would be the same their... and other teams would not sign so hastlity as they would want to balance their quota correctly and would not pay big money for someone they could mnaybe not play all the time...and if the rule has the desired effect of making teams more equally competitive...then surely the will stay put more often than not as the top 4 phrase would become redundant. Prices would go up, not just for English players, but for all players, making the game even more about money than it is today. It's very obvious that if a team is unwilling to let a homegrown player leave in todays market, imagine how much they would demand for him in a shortage of supply? It's simple economics, the players would "monopolice" themselves, leaving the supply of players short, making it so that just the richest teams will afford to buy them (they will be the ones that have a reservation price higher than the one that has been set for the more expensive players).
-
I hope this never happens, it would be a sad day for football. Only the rich would prosper from this, as it's not only the English players prices that would rocket, every home-grown talent in any other country would also rocket in price. Wages would also be ridiculous for domestic-players, considering they're bargaining-power, "give me what I want, or I'll leave, leaving you with too few domestic players". It would also harm the game, as not the best players available would be on the pitch and it would also make it less competitive, as you would be almost guaranteed a starting place as long as you're half-decent and from the country where you're playing. Thank fuck for the E.U that will no doubt make sure this stupid idea never happens.

I did feel for Terry when he missed the penalty, but this sounds more like a "feel sorry for me!!" rather than an apology tbh.
-
We've waited two years, suppose waiting another month or two won't be so bad.
-
Clearly about the highest reservation-price. Of course I'd rather have him for £2m, but I'd still be happy if we got him for £8m. Not my first choice as a new target-man, but if we don't get any of our other targets, I'd be happy enough with Ashton for under £10m.
