Still think ASM will save his ass. Confidence is getting lower though.
  2. In fairness to Roeder he is the only one out of that lot that actually managed to turn around results by "going back to basics" when he saved our season when he was interim manager. I wouldn't really put him in this list tbh. Him and Hughton are in the same bracket for me.

    Rafa Benítez

Nah, the very reason he left was because he couldn't get the assurances he needed. If he came back I'd trust that he got whatever he felt was necessary in order to improve the club. That of course also means that he won't be back unless it is related to a takeover.
  4. I haven't seen most of those matches, but I am actually surprised that they have managed as many shots on goal as they have. Before I started counting I expected 1 pr. match average at most.
  5. 5 games in a row without a goal now? 7 shots on goal in those 5 games. One of these games went 120 minutes.
  6. Put a bet on Villa to win 3-0. Fully expect us to conceede 3 goals, but get a jammy consolation goal despite playing absolutely awful the entire game, giving Bruce an opportunity to play the "the lads responded well during half time"-card or something like that in order to deflect any potential criticism from the media while denying me my rightful winnings.
  7. Solid back-up player, probably on low wages. If there was a possibility to upgrade CBs I'd rather upgrade on one of the 4 ahead of him as they would not likely be happy sitting out matches like he seemingly is.
  8. Feel like I've seen the same tweet every week for almost two seasons now.

Bruno Fernandez in a Newcastle shirt playing under Rafa Benitez Wonder if putting up some money instead of only chasing the free transfer option would have solved it.

    Jeff Hendrick

I maybe talking out of my arse here as I haven't checked, but I seem to remember him having a ridiculous pass completion percentage, at least in his first two seasons. Granted it was mostly short simple passes, but he was so good at breaking play up and releasing the ball early to a player forward of him compared to a diagonal/backwards pass specialist like Colback.

Quite funny how much stick Tiote got following his barnstorming first season. He did start believing the playmaker hype, which he never was, but you could never say you weren't sure if he was on the pitch like Mr Invisible Hendrick. The "Essien" role was given to him by Pardew (I think he even spoke to the media about it, using Essien specifically as an example of what he saw in Tiote). While I don't think Tiote minded the freedom of playing further ahead and more creatively, it is Pardew that gave him that opportunity and tried to incorporate it into the tactics. If Pardew had told him to stay further behind, keep it simple, break up play, distribute ball quickly, basically the job he had his first two seasons, I've no doubt he would have stuck with it and done well.
  12. First seconds: "I am a fan" 24 - 29 seconds: "If I was a supporter" Quite the turnaround
  13. Asm won’t play for Bruce again. I hope you're right
  14. Bruce's buffer was good enough to keep us afloat until ASM is back. We'll be fine.
  15. omg, just looked at live scores and saw Sheffield up 1-0. So predictable
  16. Wilder on the windup I always think opposing managers that come out and praises our manager does it to serve their own interest in keeping us down by keeping the manager in the job as long as possible. Can't remember many coming out and saying the same when Benitez was here. Maybe just my imagination.
  17. Twiglet? Yes!!! Was Shane Ferguson I was talking about btw.
  18. Have to agree with Big Ron. Is difficult to see if there was any contact or not. Certainly wasn't on the foot they were icing down at the end of the clip.

Tbh I heard Bruce voice activating several players a few games ago. Matty, Wilson and Hayden in particular. Problem is it doesn't help if one player is pressing while rest of the team is in their own half.
  20. A big problem with many of the academy players that have been given a chance for the last 20 years, at least for midfielders and attackers, is that they have not had the physicality and/or pace needed in the PL. While they are no technical wonders, there's a reason why Carroll, Ameobi, Dummett and Taylor have been our most successful youth products in that time period. If f.ex Armstrong was a bit taller and stronger, I bet he would (if not sold on to a better team) still be playing for us. Same goes for the northern irish midget twig that played out wide who I cannot remember the name of, Chopra and maybe Donaldson. It seems the Longstaff brothers lack what is neccessary to succeeed as well, although playing consistently out of neccessity rather than actually being good enough. Hope this guy has what it takes. Nothing more fun that to watch a local guy do well in the team. Watching Carroll tearing it up in that half season back in the prem, S. Longstaff bossing the midfield in those 8 or so games before his injury under Benitez was in a way just as enjoyable as watching HBA play.
  21. Sounds like an improvement on the last few games I've seen where we'd be lucky to do regain possession after chasing shadows for 3-5 minutes, then pass, pass, long ball crossfield, lose possession.
  22. It's a bit unfair to have Carver there imo due to the limited time he was in charge as an interim manager, but since he's a choice he wins it in a landslide imo. The rest are much of the same. I honestly couldn't say which is the worst. The one I've hated the most is Pardew because of the potential in the team at the time and how he managed HBA in particular, but as a manager I doubt any of the others would have done much different.
