I think the discussion should be "should it be a penalty" rather than "was it a penalty". It clearly was a penalty on Gordon, but I don't think it should b. Player seeking contact, and going willfully over at the slightest touch should be deemed simulation and yellow card. Don't think Joelintons shout was or should be fwiw.

Agree. Isak or Wilson on the pitch today and he gets an assist. Considering how good Barnes is at shooting from the distance he got the ball in the beginning of the game he would maybe have had two assists if Barnes didn't fumble the first touch.

Can it be so simple that Gordon needed confirmation of his future? He's working hard off the ball, clapping and encouraging passes from team mates and ordering them to get in position/cover other players. Only 8 minutes in I know, but haven't seen this Gordon so far this season.

He didn't train ahead of the Fulham game either and was really poor. Doesn't seem like we've learned any lessons from last season if we pump him up with meds & throw him on from the start. Depends on the severity of course, but you can't really treat a fracture with anything other than rest no. Don't know about the risks of making it worse or prolonging the healing process by playing, but seems obvious to me at least that it isn't recommended. Surely he is exposed to making things even worse if he hits his toe hard during the game.

We've got Osula as 3rd choice, which is more than most clubs has. There has to be a point where you can't blame the transfer window anymore. If Osula gets injured, do we criticize the transfers because we didn't bring in a 4th striker for one position? If we did, and he got injured as well, do we continue blaming the transfers because we didn't buy a 5th, 6th, 7th choice striker?

It really doesn't Head turned by Liverpool - only rumours. Nobody has confirmed that he wanted to leave and that Liverpool showed genuine interest in him (which conflicts with the rumours that Gordon was lobbying to get Guehi to Newcastle) Disappointed with little or not progress with new contract that may or may not have been promised. Nobody has confirmed this either. Disappointed at no big signings this summer. Again, not confirmed. Or it could be a combination of any of the above .....or that he is simply out of form and struggling to get back into it. Seems the most plausible explanation until we have more solid proof of anything else.

The amount of times I've read this on here recently in relation to certain players, Howe, Howe "vs" Mitchell, the team.... We're a broken fan base is the most likely explanation imo.

It's both at the same time. It's positive in the sense that Howe recognizes the need to change things up, and does so much earlier than he's done before, but it's negative because the team isn't performing as planned and/or was wrong from the beginning.
