I think the gamble from Palaces point of view is that the Euros bump to his reputation isn’t going to last if they have a shit season. A player like Olise is less dependent on the fortunes of the team, so his new deal with release clause was always going to retain its value barring an ACL. It’s hardly a banker that will happen with Guehi.

Part of me thinks they don’t feel they could justify losing Ollie, Guehi and Eze in the same window to the fans and the manager as that looked to be the case at one point. Feel like he’ll sign a new deal after the window closes and it will have a release clause of about 60m in it.

Again nothing of actual substance in either of those articles. Just hedging bets.

I think many of us, me included expected this to be wrapped up pretty quickly when it originally broke out of the blue. Since then it’s felt like waiting for Godot. We’ve had precious little in concrete updates and leaks from the club so perhaps we have already walked away. Im sort of looking forward to this window being closed one way or the other.

I think Guhei himself is just trying to be professional and respectful of the Palace fans. It’s his club that are fucking everyone about.

Was just about to say what an amazing deal that is for Juve then re-read that’s it’s a loan. He’s good but €10m for a season with no option seems hella steep.

Yeah it’s just the same stand off there has always been where we want our number one target but they are trying to maximise value. Whether Palace don’t care that he’ll still likely want to leave in a years time and will command half the fee is on them. As I’ve said before a big part of this Palace trying to control to optics, having already sold Olise. Him signing a new contract is the only outcome where they aren’t flushing money away and that is still relying on him having a good season.
