    Dean Ashton

Think Ashton is a player who would do well at Newcastle, shame he didn't come when Shearer was still playing because he could have made him into something quite special.
  2. BBC news report he is out on bail. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/7169108.stm Woops, already been posted earlier, sorry gents!!
  3. For what it is worth I think it is a worthy question, the clues all point to it being potentially a signing etc. Even though it is early days in the transfer window, by now a couple of rumours should have surfaced but, I have not heard anything!!

    Geremi

That is my point, why would the captain be withdrawn for a tactical change? Could you see Shearer being taken off so that the manager could bring on a different striker? Not very often!! I don't think Geremi is fit or very confident as a footballer, he makes a lot of mistakes and plays some ridiculous passes. The players need (or deserve) a captain who has the respect and admiration of the team. Short term it is hard to pick one player who has those qualities but, Nicky Butt is the closest and Habib Beye is certainly getting there.
  5. This is definately the game to bring Enrique back into the first team, I doubt whether he would be particularly stretched by Derby's romps upfield. The perfect game to introduce the stable 4 4 2 formation and grab us a few goals to make the fans happy. The above post from Supertoon has a very balanced team that would do very well against Derby in my opinion (as well as his!)

    Geremi

It seems very strange that Geremi is captain of the team and is often the first to be withdrawn for a substitution. You would have thought that the team captain would not be the one to be sacrificed for a formation change. Longer term I would like to see Stephen Taylor take the armband.
  7. Anyone who saw Liverpool v Man Utd on Sunday will have seen 2 teams playing far better against each other than they normally play. It is the same with us (Usually) we tend to play a little better against the better quality teams, see Arsenal on 5th Dec for a recent example.
  8. Show me just a couple of these many people please, I'd like to laugh at what else they say. I've seen it said on this(and other)fans' Websites several times over the past few years... Many times obviously as you said. You won't have any trouble finding a few examples then will you. Seriously, everyone on this forum would rather win an ugly 1 - 0 game and take three points. The media would like to portray us all as simple folk who love their football and don't mind winning or losing, load of bollocks - I'll take the win every time. I can accept a defeat if the team has given 100% on the field though.
  9. Should be a few tickets for sale for this less than glamour fixture if anyone is local and fancies coming along to cheer the lads on before Xmas.............
  10. I can remember watching a particularly long unbeaten (in fact 100%) run ending at St James's Park with a 0 - 1 score against Grimsby. Not sure of the year but, I was standing in the Milburn Paddock at the time at the Gallowgate end of the Milburn stand, I think the Gallowgate was being developed at the time.
  11. If the club insist on Blaydon Races then they should commision a new version of it, the one they play, by The Longsands I think, sounds like it is being sung by my Granddad.
  12. I agree with that. The team as it stands is fine and playing well. Roz needs a rest because he is looking stressed at the back, if Faye is ready pop him into the place vacated by Roz.
  13. I think I prefer it at the end, especially after a good performance. And it's called "Going Home". Stirring music that conjures up different emotions for different people!!
  14. It is very bad luck to kill a magpie. Everyone knows that!!
  15. I usually roll up to my seat as the classical music is being played before the teams come out so I probably miss the lap of the pitch. Must get out earlier on Saturday.
  16. I go to every home game and had never noticed them before. So been there since Barnsley, that was in August?
  17. Just made 100 posts so can start a thread.................. (thanks! be gentle) Did anyone else notice the two people dressed as magpies outside the tunnel before the players came out for the first half? That is the first time I have seen that. Didn't like it one bit!! Makes us look like a League One club or something............... Maybe they have been there for a while but, I never spotted them before. Plus the return of the theme from Local Hero at the end......... Bow to popular opinion?
  18. The match in the FA Cup (1 - 5) is the only game I have ever left early from and I have watched some rubbish in my time as a newcastle supporter. I want us to thoroughly avenge that result with a clean sheet and a very strong performance from both the team and the fans.
  19. Born in Newcastle, now live in Gateshead.
  20. I can't see him being sacked but, I could see him walking if this rough treatment continues. In defence of the vast majority of Newcastle supporters who do not boo at every opportunity I genuinely feel that we have the foundation for something quite good here right now. we have an owner with pots of cash and something of a finity with the fans. We have a proven manager, albeit at a smaller club. We have an assembly of some decent players. Now all we need is it all to click into place. Sadly, due to the real craving for any sort of success up here, we have destroyed some really good players' confidences. Our current back four consists of Beye (ex captain of Marseille), Cacapa (ex captain of Lyon), Enrique (most promising left back out of Spain) and Faye (Strong proven centre back with Premiership pedigree). That back four should stand up against most front lines in the current Premier League but, they are playing so far within themselves due to the pressure being applied by the fans and media. If I were in their position I would welcome an injury to get me out of the melting pot that is St James's Park on a Saturday afternoon. Sam has to see what is happening before it is too late and shore everything up. The simplest way to do this short term is to play a simple 4 4 2 game with every player in a familiar position so that they know what they are doing. If your wide men are popping balls into the box, the forwards are going to knock a couple of those in, statistically it has to happen!! In midfield play your wide men on the correct flank, have a holding player and someone with some flair, we have a couple of each style player on our books, work on this in training to find the best partnership - bollocks to any premadonna who complains that they aren't a regular first choice. If they are not good enough they need to get over themselves and try to become the player that the club needs in order to get their chance. Up front we are blessed with some great talents who are not being given any sort of tangible service to deal with. There you go, the club is sorted, now lets go and win some games of football.
  21. It's a fact! If we, the fans, think that our team has given everything in a game we would cheer and support even if we were beaten. Remember the Arsenal match a couple of seasons back when we played them off the field but, got beat 0 - 1. The atmosphere was amazing that game. And back in 1997 (I think) when we humped Man Utd but, lost to a Cantana goal in the second half!! Great atmospheres, great times! The Liverpool game was THE worst I have seen and I have been going to watch Newcastle for many years!! Although I don't boo, I was gutted. That sort of performance takes a while to get over.
  22. I bet Martins is chuffed to bits....
  23. Just a thought, he seems to play quite well with Hesky.
