Agree, his behaviour is almost unbelievable really. He must know that he is so valuable that there are only 1 or 2 possible moves. He doesn’t seem stupid enough to not have thought about this. I almost hope that we’ll just say “no worries Alex, everyone has a bad day sometimes” and forget about the whole thing Tiny possibility that he doesn’t think his body will hold up and he’ll never have a season as good as the last two, but that’s probably nothing.

It seems like a mistake now and anyway we always needed both types of player, but the reasons I can think of are: We need to go up another level and can’t take risks. We have more money now so we thought we could afford a couple of stars. The prices of the riskier players has come up closer to the proven players. Nobody could disagree that we want more signings like the ones you mention because they’re all amazing, but those are some of the reasons I could imagine.

The sad thing for me is just that even if we have pretty much the best window I can imagine, we'll probably end up worse if Isak goes. So we'll have to do incredibly well for top 5 if the usual suspects do well. I can just about imagine us getting Sesko and Wissa I suppose, which would avert disaster. But I'm not saying it's likely. TBH I think guaranteed CL every season will really only be a thing for 2 or 3 teams from now on anyway.

I'm still assuming we will manage to sign some players before the end of the window. I know I'm naive at times but it seems like something that's realistic.
