  1. I'm sure there's an element of thinking he had reached a point where he would be overvalued, but I think we always had that down as part of the "too good to turn down" aspect of the deal anyway. I certainly don't think anyone expected he wouldn't do well for Liverpool - especially Mike Ashley.
  2. I fucking hope so. As annoying as it is, it can wait. Same with any negativity that may come if we don't break Chelsea down and/or start to lose. I've said it all week, some things are bigger than football and this weekend, football comes second. I wouldn't mind a few rounds of "stand up for St James' Park'. I don't think the Speed tragedy means we can't sing that. I don't want an overly negative atmosphere either though, especially since it won't achieve anything.
  3. Aye, I know what you're saying, I really hope he might loosen the purse strings enough to keep our best players too. I think it might take a crazy bid to get one of them anyway, which is the situation most clubs are in. The wages thing is a worry though, would hate to lose someone like Colo over wages.
  4. You know, I was totally wrong. Silence is much better than a minute's applause. Whey, it doesn't really matter in the grand scheme of things. I'm sure everyone will be thinking of him anyway. I've just always preferred quiet time to think.
  5. Don't rate Mark Hughes, or like him really, but it will be interesting to see how he does if appointed.
  6. I've only skimmed that HTT, but I don't think you're right to be so negative. Yes, Ashley will run NUFC on a purely financial basis firstly, but within those limits he seems to have assembled football people who will make a good fist of building a quality team. Anyway, would it not be more reckless to suddenly scrap the financial controls because of half a season in the top few?
  7. I wish it was a silence as well, much more fitting to stand and reflect.
  8. Hope he gets down the gym now he's got so much free time, I'm seriously worried about his redness and obesity.
  9. Knew he was going after what he said at the weekend, was planning to stick some money on it. Foiled again!
  10. This is basically my feeling too. I think we can get something, but I'm not expecting it. Anelka seems always to remember how to play football against us as well.
  11. My late uncle was a Gateshead season ticket holder, and he went every week for about 50 years. He definitely didn't consider himself a Newcastle fan first. Not sure why I supported NUFC rather than Gateshead, I can't remember ever making a decision. I 'support' them both I suppose, but somehow the Premier League team was always the one I really followed.
  12. The Times podcast was talking about him as the best holding midfielder in the league. Obviously forgot about
  13. And at the same time we judge clubs for how many fans they have and criticise them for having empty seats, when it's mainly either an accident of geography or because they're successful or not.
  14. Thing is, sometimes a group of powerful players can make the others feel left out. Ideally it's better to have an equal set of players who all feel they are of the same importance. If that's what we've got now, it's a massively good thing.
  15. Would rather have someone absolutely top class, but at the moment we just need a specialist LB who will enhance the defensive unit. For £3m I would be behind the signing and give him a chance.
  16. Yeah, I booked my seat about 10 days ago and even then there were only single seats that I could see. Let's hope we pay respects to Speedo in full voice before kick-off, then during the game cheer the lads on to a performance to make him proud.
  17. A broken bone isn't that much of a worry IMO, they generally come back just as strong. Match fitness is an issue I suppose.
  18. Yeah, wouldn't be surprised if I'm sobbing like a baby. Funnily enough Speedo was never one of my favourite players, although I respected his ability and workrate. I guess that was his role a lot of the time, essential to the result but not in the limelight. Been affected by this quite a lot though, to see a man like that inexplicably gone in the prime of life is really shocking. As people have said, so much more important than football.
  19. Yep, sure that story is bollocks. Lost count of the amount of random Scottish players we've been linked with.
  20. Beyond words how horrible it would be to find someone like that.
  21. I think we're just introdcuing him gradually, firstly because he's a young foreign player and secondly because the team has done so well without him.
  22. Nothing, but that's not the point. Getting to a point mentally where you can see no other way out could never be described as selfish. Thinking logically, of course you would never want to hurt your loved ones like that, but logic doesn't apply. This is assuming their was a depression related reason, which we don't know yet.
