Keegan: Managing England is soulless and I'd tell Harry not to do it
AyeDubbleYoo replied to Tooj's topic in Football
I agree Otter, except I really rate Ashley Young. He could be the left side of that system IMO. -
What's the worst thing the FA has ever done to a manager as punishment? Ferguson must have been "charged" and "warned about his future conduct" about 20 times and nothing worse than a touchline ban has ever happened. I think he gets fined a few grand quite often. Even the touchline bans in England are pointless, as the manager is still allowed in the stadium and still allowed to communicate with the bench etc.

Think you're totally right about the style of play we need HTT. For me the most important thing for an England manager is having the balls to pick players that fit into that Premier League style of play, and the right players in the right positions. That means leaving out some of the big names.... I've yet to see an England manager that even thinks about doing that. -
Steven Taylor is genuinely mental... the lad needs to be looked at by a professional.

I love how every article just includes a list of three or four similar-level clubs... it's journalism at its best.

I just get the feeling KK is an idealist, and gets disillusioned quickly with things that other people might work through. -
The problem is we can't really afford to let Jose mull over his contract until the end of the transfer window. We need time to replace him is he does go. Hopefully we'll get a couple of early signings to put his mind at rest and show intent, but if we don't he will have to make a decision just based on what Pardew tells him. In which case I would think he would leave... and we would need to let him so that we had time to buy someone else.

I hope he does tell Harry not to take the England job, and I hope Harry listens. -
For me it's not even about whether we would get away with it, it's about the lack of pride in success that's just bought instantly.

would you hate it more than spending the next 5-10 years trying to find and develop new players so they can be sold to clubs with more ambition and money (regardless of the origin of the money)? genuine question like, not taking the piss Personally I would, because it's very possible that the club can progress while developing those players, and in time we will get better and less of them will move on to richer clubs (which is all "ambition" really means in these discussions IMO).
-
As I said before, I don't think there's much evidence to suggest that, if managed properly, his attitude is that bad. His previous departure was 90% the fault of NUFC IMO.
-
I know that, but most of the time they haven't. The job of a player should be to try and continue with play... not make decisions about whether they've been fouled.
-
And that's a big reason why players dive/playact. If you try to stay on your feet, even when fouled, most of the time you won't be given the freekick. It's a small reason, but the main one is they're trying to cheat.
-
Absolutely, it would be insane to rely on Best in any way.
-
The same could have been said of Milner yet contrast his attitude to N'Zogbia's... Not sure we mismanaged Milner really, he might have been better played centrally but most managers seem to think he's a winger. Zoggy was the most promising talent we'd had for ages and we fucked it up by signing a Chelsea has-been.
-
I don't think Zoggy's attitude is that poor TBH, at least I don't have much reason to think that. We mismanaged him terribly the first time around.

West Ham agree fee in region of £15m with Liverpool for Andy Carroll
AyeDubbleYoo replied to Pilko's topic in Football
If the January window (basically just the Carroll sale) hadn't happened I reckon Ashley would be well on the way to winning over a lot of the fans.
