I hadn't actually realised Defoe had appeared 21 times for Spurs in the league this season. Not sure how many of those are as a sub though.
-
If he really wants guaranteed first team football right now, then he won't be able to go to a club that will pay him the biggest wages. We could have a tiny chance of getting him if he genuinely just wants to play football. I'd think Pards could sell us as a better option that the likes of Bolton and Sunderland. He could join Fergie's team of 22 at Man Utd I suppose, if Chelsea would let him go there.
-
I don't think Defoe has suddenly become a bad player, I would welcome him here for a modest fee. He's still one of the sharpest finishers I've seen. Although we might be going for younger players.
-
Yeah, would be beyond my expectations for sure. Still think Chelsea are unlikely to let him go permanently, unless they're genuinely too thick to plan for the future at all.

The Blizzard - new football quarterly magazine/book
AyeDubbleYoo replied to AyeDubbleYoo's topic in Football
Ha, yes, being a quarterly they can actually spell "quarterly"... unlike me. -
If anyone (like me) is a bit sick of the awful standard of a lot of sports writing and would like something more in-depth and interesting, you might like The Blizzard. It's a new quarterly thing featuring a load of good writers. http://www.theblizzard.co.uk I've got the pilot issue and I'm very impressed by it. Thought some people might want to check it out. (BTW, I've got nothing to do with the people who make it or anything sinister like that!)

There's something west of the Pennines?

What, cheap signings that are brilliant? It's basically like saying "I'd prefer to shag beautiful lasses with amazing bodies. And lots of them." Exactly, very insightful!
-
Agree with all that. Me too, but you could equally argue that those decisions just seemed bad to us fans, when in fact the man in charge predicted it would turn out OK! Not saying I endorse that point of view, but it also seems harsh to admit some of his decisions have worked out well while denying the possibility that any of those results were intentional. Particularly with regard to not signing Shearer and replacing Hughton with Pardew.

What he's getting paid is hardly a surprise, it's a lot but the club obviously thought they could afford it. I've been surprised by just how useless he's been though.

I've always tried to understand what Ashley is thinking, and why he's done some of the mental things he's done. With him there's always the worry that he's going to do something mental again out of the blue, but at the moment things are looking up. If we have a decent summer followed by another good season I think we need to start cutting him some slack. The problem was that the relegation and what went before it was unprecedented in the lifetimes of some fans. I mean, I'm nearly 30 and I only know NUFC from the Keegan era, which was almost all excitement and progress until recently. Ashley is a successful businessman and he must have the ability to learn from mistakes. Hopefully he's starting to realise what running a football club involves. He'll always bring his bargain-basement ruthless mentality to whatever he does, but maybe he can learn to temper it or channel it.

Shearer says talks with Cardiff were "unsucessful" - Sky News
AyeDubbleYoo replied to Decky's topic in Football
Is Shearer even interested in becoming a manager now? Seems pretty comfortable on the MOTD sofa to me. -
he brings a lot of the doubling up on himself by not wanting to move more then 5yds from jose. True, you've got a point there. I'm sure when he first signed he used to make a lot more runs up the line. Hopefully something the coaching staff will be encouraging more.

Psyched for Reading getting through, got a proper soft spot for the Royals. Will be cheering them on in the final, would love to see them back in the Prem.

Bet he's got a white iPhone too, the flash bastard. Maybe that's why they finally released the white version, Tiote emailed this to Steve Jobs:

I just love Jonas TBH, just my kind of erratic player and also seems a decent guy as well. Hopefully see him in a better (Newcastle!) side next season where it's more difficult for defenders to double/triple up on him.

West Ham agree fee in region of £15m with Liverpool for Andy Carroll
AyeDubbleYoo replied to Pilko's topic in Football
I don't mind my players being twats and winding people up... but I hate to see them diving and cheating. -
Has he been pictured with a toy gun? Have I missed something?
-
The first one maybe, the second one I really doubt it. Why would we sell them at this point?
-
Don't matter where we send him, he will still end up not recycling a plastic bottle or leaving the bathroom light on when he isn't even in there the dispicable cunt.

Newcastle United v WBA - (prematch thread) - May 22nd 4pm
AyeDubbleYoo replied to Beren's topic in Football
I think this season's been great. Just because there hasn't been one outstanding team I don't think it's been poor. Hopefully people are starting to realise the big teams aren't unbeatable. -
Is this a direct quote from Mean Girls, starring Lindsay Lohan?

I agree with all of that except the bit in bold.
