  1. That can't be true though, Beckham's percentages were much much less than 50% weren't they? Otherwise he's have a direct free kick goal every one or two games. I would be willing to bet that even the best free kick takers only score about 20%, if that. Not that I have any stats to back that up.
  2. I don't know why anyone bothers shooting from a direct free kick TBH, even if you're Beckham the percentages are tiny.

    Midfield

Our midfield is more than decent IMO, I would like back up for Nolan when he goes missing (Ireland/Gosling?) and an alternative for Barton who offers more direct running.
  4. Chelsea bidding £50m for Torres, when he wasn't playing well and looked a shadow of his former self, was a godsend for Liverpool. They did excellently to secure Carroll and Suarez with the money though obviously. Be interesting to see how they do next season, and what deals they do in the summer as well.

Or they would have to sort out their behaviour.
  6. I don't think we can rule out the club still buying him at all, still think it's a distinct possibility.
  7. Is there any other way? If he plays open Barcelona will tear them to shreds.
  8. Oh yeah, I would be mortified if he was all we signed, too many unknowns for one thing.
  9. I don't understand these weird faces, I preferred the hand-drawn ones. It was an innocent age.
  10. I think N'Gog could make a decent striker if he played more minutes.
  11. I wouldn't miss any football manager, that's not the point. What would you miss about Alex Ferguson - his whiney face or his intimidation of referees? Doesn't stop him being brilliant. I'd miss the football his teams produce. Same with Wenger. There's nothing about Mourinho I'd miss at all. Fair enough, I personally quite like him. Against Barca he couldn't win - the only possible approach is the one he took. His reaction after was stupid though, obviously.
  12. Yes, but I don't think you could say Mourinho doesn't.
  13. I gambled on Bolton players when they were still in the cup, as they seemed to have decent fixtures left. Since then they've been hammered by Stoke, lost almost all their games and hardly kept a clean sheet.

However, one normally gets punished with a sending off and the other rewarded with a penalty.
  16. Liverpool haven't suddenly become Barcelona you know.

Got to second this, there's no way those fouls are anything like diving.
  18. I would agree that Ranger should be ahead of Lovenkrands around the 3/4th striker spot, but I think he would benefit more from a season out on loan where he would play 100% of the games.

Fouling isn't a con in the same way as diving though. It's still breaking the laws of the game, but I still wouldn't call it 'cheating'.
  20. Obviously, their wages will be immense for one thing.
  21. I think the only way to compare players is to watch them. Everything like goals, assists, trophies won is too influenced by the team and their team mates. All I know is Messi is frightening for his age, and young enough to continue to get better.
