Newcastle United 1 - 1 Chelsea - 28/11/10 - post match reaction from page 27

I can't believe how often he gets booked, for a player who isn't dirty at all. It's bizarre. -
West Ham agree fee in region of £15m with Liverpool for Andy Carroll

If Carroll keeps being as good, we get Ben Arfa, maybe a couple of decent signings... we will be the club that is signing players from rivals, not the one that is selling them. -
It's sad for Roy, that's for sure.

Who was captain yesterday? Hard to see from L7. And aye it would be great for AC to be skipper The Shola. -

I thought it was a decent tactic TBH, you could see the likes of Anelka were getting frustrated, dropping deeper and deeper to get involved in play. Without their main midfielders they actually don't have the ability to hurt teams from deep positions that much IMO, not sure why Lawro was going on about it on MOTD. -
Maybe in theory, but imagine how few times it would actually be enforced. Officials are scared to book players for diving, never mind send them off. The only solution is a video panel to review every game and punish the divers.

It looked at least semi-accidental. -
Lawro needs to cut down on the pies in a big way... he's actually making me feel ill watching MOTD now, reclining on the sofa in a tight shirt with his man tits and paunch on display.

I don't question it because I know the answer... it's just how Shola is.

Was just thinking that... surely warranted a showing. -
A shocker for the big lad today. I feel for him in games like this TBH, he's a player that needs to feel in his head that he has the beating of the opposition, and also one that needs a few good touches and the freedom to lose possession a bit while he works himself into the game. Neither thing he'll ever get against the better teams in the league.

Wayne Routledge signs 3 year deal with Swansea
AyeDubbleYoo replied to clintdempsey's topic in Football
Did well today bearing in mind Ashley Cole is one of the best left backs in the world. I always said he was dropped too quickly and I still think that we look a much happier side with him balancing our play down the right. His crossing was a bit wayward at times, but he didn't really get that many opportunities. -

He is playing against the quickest LB in the league to be fair. -
I have to lol at how bad a signing Beckford has been like, he looks shocking.
-
He will be able to say that he "wasn't their man" and didn't do anything wrong again though, which will be fucking annoying.

Least appropriate use of facepalm ever?

Can't see beyond a hammering here.

Our squad players are worse than any bar Blackpool. Really? I don't see many teams in the bottom half bringing quality replacements in. I think our main problem is the positions where we have nobody other than the starter. No RW other than Routledge, no LB other than Enrique, no CM other than Tiote.

He was extrememly close to joining Burnley on loan i think, certainly at the time many Spurs fans didnt think he had a future at the club. Easy with hindsight to say it would be stupid but at the time it wasnt so clear cut It was Forest. I don't think there were many fans who thought he had no future at all but there were many, me included, who thought defensively he was weaker than BAE. Also, the run of defeats before being involved in his first Spurs win badly dented his confidence and it showed. I don't think there was any talk of Bale being sold but it was highly likely that he would have been loaned out if BAE hadn't picked up his injury. It's easy to see why Redknapp always has this wheeler dealer tag but I don't think he spends huge amounts of money because of the returns when players are sold on. The latest rumour is that is that Liverpool and Spurs are working on a deal to see Kranjcar go to Anfield and Glen Johnson go to WHL which would allow Hutton to be moved on in the summer. Liverpool apparently are wanting £5/6m plus Kranjcar whilst Spurs are trying to do a straight swap. Irrespective of whether you think Johnson is any better defensively than Hutton, the fact is that Kranjcar cost £2m and we're now trying to do a deal for Johnson who cost Liverpool £17.5m. Does that mean Harry really is a wheeler dealer?

FA Cup 3rd Round Draw - Stevenage (a) weekend of 8th January 2011

I just want an easy first few rounds, sick of being shafted by the ball bag (to mix a metaphor). -

Easy with hindsight to say it would be stupid but at the time it wasnt so clear cut Oh yeah, I'm not saying it was obvious, just that it wasn't simply a case of 'he's not performing, sell him'... his youth was a reason to persevere for a while.

Ashley hasn't profited from anything related to NUFC... except maybe a bit of free publicity for Sports Direct (mostly bad). -
Also, Bale is very young. To write him off and sell him would have been a bit premature and stupid.

Aye, sort of diffused the situation a little with that reaction. Papers could have a field day with any other reaction. I know its a crappy thing to say, but I feel sorry for Barton if he really does find it hard to keep in control of emotions. If he could get that sorted, he'd have half a chance with refs and the media. This season, before this incident, he was taking the first long steps towards 'redemption'. He might not have been recalled up to the England squad again, and he might not have even won over the respect and belief of anyone outside of SJP, but he was starting the process. His efforts on the field had improved, and whereas some of his passing was stray, he was at least trying to be creative and proactive in a somewhat static team. I don't think this incident undoes his progress though, needs to be understood in a wider context. Yes, it was out of order, but it was fairly minor. Also, it was on the pitch, which for Barton is a big step forward.
