Something that never seemed to happen, for whatever reason. Maybe their ideas of the 'the right price' where too far apart, or maybe Keegan forgot about this principle and wanted Ashley to spend big straight away. another theory going around is that he agreed with the "system" when he took the job in january, hoping he could later persuade ashley to spend big money in the summer but when this didnt happen, he quit. Definitely possible, I know I would have agreed to almost anything to get the job if I'd been in his shoes.

Arshavin is hilarious, the last window was funny enough but if he's still at Zenit come the end of this one it'll be class.

Fair enough. But who's to say that this didnt cross Keegans mind once he knew he was out of his depth? How was he ot of his depth? the seaon had started OK and the team seemed to be improving and if Dennis Wise is the DOF in charge of recruitment why does he never watch the first team to asses where we need to strengthen and the least said about Xisco and Nacho the better. If he (Wise) is contracted to staff the academy thne fine he's doing that but be more clear with roles and again if he's doing that he shouldn't be forcing 1st teamers on a manager be that Keegan, Kinnear or anyone else. But surely that's the whole argument, we've got nothing to suggest that he ever forced players on anyone. In fact we've got a lot of quotes saying the opposite.

I didn't even know he wore glasses.

I would just simply like to know what he does for the club on a day-to-day basis. Who are 'his team'?

Well apart from the 10 or so clubs that have actually won something during that period We've had some good times, but for the amount we've spent, the return has been very poor. Not so sure, the majority of premiership clubs would swap their records 1992-2000ish with ours. I would rather have our record than won the Carling Cup just so we can 'have some silverware'.
-
Were you the Scarlet Pimpernel?
-
I strangely enjoy reading that list, reminds me that we have done something decent... most premiership clubs would gladly have swapped places with us over the years.

Sorry I haven't read through this whole thread, but I can't see anything Dennis Wise has done wrong. From what we can see he seems to be doing a good job and coming up with some decent youngsters. If he was Scottish or something instead of from London, and was a 'nicer guy', we wouldn't be having this discussion.

What the feck has the amount of players we sign got to do with Harry Redknapp? I'm tired so I'm being harsh, but that's a stupid post.

Bernard was brilliant for most of his time here, probably just got some bad advice about his true worth and went off looking for a better deal. I remember he was talking about all of the big clubs that would be interested in him if he left!

Seems like some of the press might be extracting their heads from Harry's anus. It's about time.

You won't be getting it then. It's always been that way, they'll give you hundreds of shit channels for £12 or something, want Sky Sports? £40. Aye I know, I never expect it to happen! -

I still think he bought the club for the fun factor and that went with the protests against him but I still agree that he should have tried to tough it out. He'll never have a better time to come back now that most people understand the state of the club and why some things have been done in the way that they have. Completely agree, he may as well give it a shot, if it turns around he could well end up being liked again. As impossible as that seems now, people have short memories. -
For me the Bobby days are almost even more special, the Keegan era is a bit hazy in my mind but the Robson days were amazing.

I think it's time Ashley came back to the games, we need him to be involved. I don't think he should have ever stopped, obviously he would have needed to move to the director's box to avoid being ripped to shreds, but he should have stuck with it. -
would love him here. Me too, would be amazing. Was the first person we should have turned to when keegan left. we would be in a completely different situation right now if he had been brought in. Owen would more than likely have re-signed, more players would be interested in joining us and might well have already done that. Given our current situation he would be a great choice to take over in the summer, there will be few better options available. He'd of been my 3rd choice behind Deschamps and Zico. Deschamps becasue he's young talented knows Wise and will have a good grasp of the market, and Zico becasue he's used to working in this type of set up, has a decent coaching record and is a huge name in the game both like playing attacking football. Houllier might actually appeal to Ashley as he might fit the system quite well and is also a 'name' that might pacify the fans for a bit. Almost dare to dream it might happen!
