I'd definitely like a spell abroad if I was a player, especially while I was young and developing if possible. Don't know why more don't go for it, especially with the EU free-trade laws.
-
I suppose what was meant was the 'risk' was low, not because there was no possibility that he won't do well, but because even if he does turn out to be rubbish we will have lost very little.

That's down to schooling as well, kids don't touch language till 12, you learn linguistics best in your early years. Course, also if you believe the stereotypes then footballers might not be the sharpest tools in the box.
-
Language is a big issue as well, very few English people (esp footballers) would even attempt to live in a non English-speaking country. There's the guy playing in Turkey isn't there?

Just as well the club is going for the 'giving him a trial' route, rather than just reading his wiki entry.

Shame, he shouldn't have been on the pitch. His attitude towards the officials in the first half was shocking, and Webb just ignored it. He kept raising his arm in gestures to him, telling him to 'fuck off', ignoring him, intimidating the assistant - not even a yellow card. Got away with murder. You forget he plays for Manchester United. No ref does anything bad against them, and if a game is 0-0 it's common ref knowledge to add Fergie Time to the normal added time so they can get a winner. Rafa, is that you?

Jose Enrique out for at least three weeks with hamstring injury
AyeDubbleYoo replied to a topic in Football
I'm sure Butt is living off his reputation with large sections of the media and football establishment. -
He's only 28, I've got a feeling this could turn out to be a good signing. He's direct at least.

I've hardly seen Messi play at all, or Kaka for that matter, I feel like the people who were trekking in the rainforest when JFK was assassinated.

The most irritating person in football at the moment.

By far the best thing about this season has been how comically bad Spurs are. Love it...

West Ham agree fee in region of £15m with Liverpool for Andy Carroll
AyeDubbleYoo replied to Pilko's topic in Football
Can forgive him some dodgy touches and over-enthusiastic passes at the moment, the premiership must be a lot faster than the football he's used to, and he must be nervous as owt. Seems like he put himself about well today, and took his goal very well - no complaints. -
Jose Enrique out for at least three weeks with hamstring injury

Seems like Enrique never 'does alright'... I've already read a couple of people saying he was great today and a couple saying he was awful. -
Quote of the week contender.

I couldn't be either!

I've seen it used plenty as a picture to go alongside the text when talking about the subject, but I've not seen any journalists taking the piss out of it or using the text of it to take the piss out of the supporters. Even if that was true, what do you think people think of it and the people who made it when they see the photos?

Doesn't he mean Baros?

That's surreal, Rafa is so funny. He might be right like...

I'm just expressing my personal view and my feelings towards the banner and what it stands for. Firstly it makes us look 'thick' (or whatever word you want to use) because only one of the people involved with the club could remotely be called a cockney. And even him, Wise, was born in Kensington - West London and definitely not a 'cockney'. Kinnear is Irish and connected to Spurs so also not a cockney, and Ashley is from Buckinghamshire. The banner just looks like unfocused ignorant vitriol. If you don't care about how Newcastle is perceived then fair enough, I can't argue with that. And if you think I disagree with the sentiment behind the banner then I've already clearly said that I do, I haven't made a U-turn or changed my views about Ashley at all since he arrived, except to express disappointment about how we have done so far this season, including with transfers.

N'Zogbia: Lyon interested according to agent
AyeDubbleYoo replied to TêteDeMaure's topic in Football
Whereas every quote that comes out from Zoggy is gospel? -
Trying not to? Link? I have nowt against Riise coming in as he has experience fo the league - But it'll be a shame if him coming in means Enrique is moved on, rather than as competition. I think .com have jumped the gun a bit saying Enrique will be 'moved on', I would be very disappointed if that happened. Despite the fact that Joe Kinnear has actually said that he will let Enrique go. Fair point, I'm just hoping that either Enrique has done enough recently to convince him, or he will be stopped by someone above him from actually selling such a potentially good player.

I know it's easy to stereotype footballers as thick, and by their actions a lot of them may not appear to be the sharpest tools in the shed, but they'd have to be pretty moronic to think the banner had anything to do with them, so your insinuation that they would be is far more closed-minded and ignorant than that banner. This sums it up: On the first point, what I meant was that it demonstrates an attitude from the fans that might make players feel that we're not 100% 'on their side'. The second point, in my case wrong. Yes, I do disagree with the sentiment... but I also disagree with the way it is being expressed. To be honest, they're one and the same thing because IMO forming the opinion that you want the 'Cockney Mafia' out and displaying the banner to that effect require the same level of ignorance. If you just disagree with the way Ashley has run the club and want him to leave, then fair enough, but to me that feels like a slightly different point, or at least one formed more rationally.
