Sure, but the point is you need the tools to find out where your ceiling is. Just because his previous job was at a lower level, I don't see any reason to use that to conclude where his level is. He's proven already he can qualify for the CL with a pretty limited squad. Presumably if we get a new manager we will probably go for someone else who is also not proven to be in that elite group of names you mention.

I really don't think this limit exists in this way, surely it's a constant interplay between the manager, the hierarchy and the playing squad. Give Howe another 5 or 6 world class players and see what his ceiling is.

I think he just means playing well consistently is the problem, which I totally agree with. Home or away, we need to settle into a better rhythm. Home you sometimes do better because the crowd gives you the extra 10% you need to get it done. But overall the problem is you need to play better.

Sometimes I think it’s more that poor teams have to set up in a low block rather than they do it against us specifically. Man Utd are just crap and got an unexpected lead. It that was us we would be hammering Howe for sitting back on a single goal. It’s just how football works sometimes.

Think you also factor in the fact that NUFC didn’t seemingly have a fully staffed recruitment department that could do what the likes of Brighton do. And we can’t afford to miss with transfers (although looks like we have) so known quantities seem like a better bet.

When he’s been fit for a bit longer Tuchel will start picking him and his profile will go up. I guess most people just don’t notice who NUFC’s left back is. Luckily for us.

Winning is the only option TBH, also ideally needs to be a smashing to build some confidence.

One thing I would like to see is subs that change the approach in some way rather than just like for like changing the players. Like last night, move Gordon right, leave Woltemade on instead of Joey coming on and play Wissa ahead of him. Barnes on the left where he’s dangerous. TBF to Man U they did work hard to defend their box and any team would find that hard to break down.

It’s probably not just to minimise injuries TBH, it’s equally because it’s physically impossible to perform with that intensity every 3-4 days.

Haven’t noticed the diving aspect that much TBH, definitely doesn’t dive as much as Bruno for example.

You're just describing the team there TBH. He's the central striker, he depends more than anyone on the team playing well and clicking with each other.

He was fine, actually covered for Thiaw and Miley in one instance showing great desire and pace.

Our immediate fixtures are very winnable, we're just not in great form to win them.

I guess it's also the fact that we feel we need rotation that means we might be reluctant to play them both.

I don't think it's a pen like, the ball is just kicked up under his arms when they're on the back of Thiaw. Would be very annoyed to concede it.

We tried to buy a top GK TBF, Ramsdale was just the available final straw option.

Problem is when you're rebuilding a whole squad it's pretty bold/brave/unwise to sell every player that's in good form. Very hard to judge the top of the curve. That logic implies that you're always looking to sell your best-performing players.
