I respect their right to different beliefs but I can’t accept that extends to accepting that people are fundamentally inferior because of things like sexuality. Do we just say to racists that their believes are equally valid?

You obviously can’t police what people think, not really sure what you’re asking. You can have standards for what people say or do.

Maybe the best option would’ve been that he had to step down from captaincy if he felt he couldn’t wear the armband. FWIW I respect religion immensely but it’s a lot more difficult when they have a belief like this which is in conflict with basic human life. I’m not sure how you can respect that bit so much.

Not as simple as that though. People’s freedom to practice their religion is to be respected, but when it comes into the public sphere it becomes a lot more complicated.

This sounds great and I agree with it principle. But how about things which are as basic as this. If someone opted out of an anti racism campaign because they thought black people were inferior, I don’t think we’d just be saying “fair enough, it’s personal belief”.

This is the generous view, yep. It’s possible.

Yeah, it’s not easy to make definitive pronouncements about. I just think that some things are beyond doubt and no personal beliefs can be held up above that. Maybe he was trying to please both in his own dodgy way.

To be generous to Guehi, he’s in a very difficult position if he knows his family and community are all homophobic.

Debatable whether anti-racism and LGBT rights is political mind. To me it’s basic human rights that nobody is justified in objecting to. Of course anyone can be homophobic or racist in secret, the challenge comes when something comes up which requires them to do it in public. I’m completely for freedom of religion but there must be a point where you say, “it’s not OK to think gay people are inferior” etc.

I think we know what he’s getting at His religion generally thinks that gays are bad and he believes that above the support of those people. Not Jesus specifically maybe, but orthodox Christianity as a faith.
  11. Don’t think he’s performed for more than that in all the time he’s been here. Always starts blowing around 60+ minutes.
  12. Anyone who works for the club as well.
  13. Almost no PL clubs buy strikers proven to score goals here. Proven to score goals somewhere else, maybe.
  14. Yeah, you need to speak to every named person in the chain, possibly until an exec. Keep pushing it. Good luck mate.
  15. Horrific that, who have you actually spoken to?
  16. I do wonder what footballers actually do in training sometimes. Probably not much in some cases.
  17. Depends on which way you look at him?
  18. Not sure such a thing exists.
  19. Yep, the reaction is way over the top. We all know fans would throw a player in at any point because they aren’t professional, but managers (Howe especially) will not do that.
  20. Best I can do is: GK - Pope LB - Hall LCB - Burn/Bot RCB - Schar (Guehi) RB - Tino (Trip) ACM - Bruno (Joe W) LDM - Tonali (Joel) RDM - Miley (Long) LW - Barnes (Joe/Joe) CF - Isak RW - Gordon Dunno.
  21. We might have got relegated if we hadn't signed Trippier. The project might never have got off the ground.
