I voted depends on length of contract as I would not like to see us tied to a 5 yr mega deal, all depends how much they want for him has been decent when I have seen him play definetly the "problem player" type that SA seems to like.

a player is only worth what are club are willing to pay for him, at the time i dont think anyone would have complained about signing owen, i remember hearing stuff like " top drawer" "new shearer" "we lost out on rooney but got a gem in owen" and now two seasons down done nowt for us, hasnt been blasting them in when he has played and with the this speculation about his contract no wonder the lad ran off to ireland. If he does go i hope he goes for top wack like alot of the press has said i think for him to attract a better club than ourselves he needs to be on fire for england if it doesnt go well then we keep him and SA workis with him to get him back on form. Seen as their are strikers out there for the 10-15 million bracket i dont see it as being a big thing if he stays or goes except from apersonal point of view where there is something special about seeing owen score for us (maybe cause he scored so many against us) if he does stay just wait for the chants when he is stuffing scumderland back the championship

SA's aim was to bring players in that are better than what we have and unfortunately this guy is better than anything we have. I reckon my nine year old bairn is better than most that we had at the back last year, and could definitley do a better job than either Babayaro or Carr. I just don't want people here because they were good once, Heinze doesn't convince me that he has a couple of years left in his tank. he is definetly better than what we have and SA has this track records with ageing lacking in form players if he falls into SA radar then it all comes down to the price if we can get him reasonable say under 4mil then I would have him here for 2-3 yrs but if they want silly money then stay clear.

can see your point but on the other hand if you look at it the other way you have a keeper on the books that could have moved numerous times, shay is always going to be our number one and instead of being ambitious enough to want to play week in week out he warms the bench. Not that I dont respect the lad for staying part of the cause just think he could have done better for himself elsewhere.

dont really like liverpool and dont have an opinion on milan, really disappointed by the final at the weekend think this has more potential than that more at stake with such a highly regarded cup competition .
-
or maybe 3-4 yrs with the help of SA
-
the model professional that spoke out at the right times, could have gone else where if he wanted but stuck by us, sad really that he will never be seen as highly regarded as wore alan just to the fact he is a keeper and his contributions arent seen as easily

sign of the times i think we all need to take a reality check beckham isn't the player he once was and has gone tail between the legs off to america to have a nice big pay day while the twiggy wife tries to get her carear going AGAIN. While we all loved the guy in his day I would rather aim for mcclaren (or whoever takes over his job) stick with the younger lads.

not that im saying it isnt a good idea to have height but gooch and bramble arent exactly small and we still never do anything when it comes to set pieces.

I'm always scared to start a new thread as i cant read the forum daily so having this in place seems to make sense seen as the more dedicated posters (high volume of posts) will have a better idea of what goes down well as a good thread.

like many have said issues regarding him getting over the last major injury I do feel he is a class act but as usual good teams dont let their best players go.
-
but if the rumours are to be true he puts portsmouth in a higher regard to ourselves so I think campbell or even hypia would be a better option, although if the main reason for campbell sighting a move is the whole GF thing does that mean if that goes tits up he will want to transfer back down south?
-
And why would they have to splash out on a squad player especially. Despite what you say about Dyer he is a threat when he is at his best and I would imagine Mourinho would get the best out of him. He is also a known premiership performer so there would be no uncertainty as far as whether he would make an impact or not. you mean like he has with schevstinko and ballack??? I just dont think the lad will move as he isn't good enough for them
-
No, i'm saying he gets away with the same amount of shite that Bramble has but is left alone because he is the local lad made good. well he didnt cost us a fortune to sign, hasnt given us season after season of dog shite and mistake after the mistake, he is young and hungry and to want a new contract least shows passion for the club, give the lad a break. as for comparing him to bramble thats a bit harsh with a bit of coaching from some one half decent and not taking the learning lessons from doomsong and bramble i can see the lad going far.
-
I have thar little faith in the man I still can't help thinking he was just lucky but luck or no luck I can see this as being the best bit of business the guy has done sinse sir bob when it comes to managers
-
he'll be what, 31 by then though wont he?? perfect SA material then surely
-
with chelsea's resources they could go out and spend 30 million on a replacement and 10 million on a squad player buying an injury prone none scoring getting on never really made a full season impact player for 5/6 million is just silly business not impossible in the world of football but highly doubtful

At the end of the day being a journalist is about selling papers, it's not really about whether their is any truth in the story. true if we are talking about tabliod speculation but this turd speaks like its gospel and never retracts anything himself its just what he believed and now his sources tell him its not. If there was an element of truth in what he said I think people would not have a dig at him so much
-
I remember seeing him on a special pimp my ride and he did seem full of himself and his image, would be another person here to be on the payroll and if he didnt work and liverpool and didnt workin over in the french league than comming back over here doesnt seem to look like something to work out. If we really had to go for him I would never want to hear anything about him being on 60,000+ to warm the bench we have enough of those.
-
perfect yes but never going to happen, I agree with you and can see his appeal in the sense that he can play pritty much across the midfield or in a 4-3-3 role. But he is not in the same league as lampard, I can see him leaving if I'm honest as for us getting rid of dyer I think the likes of portsmouth even spuds possibly but expect no more then 3-4 million, miserable injury record, not a scorer not a creator and not getting any younger, if he was not in our team would we be keen to sign?? I dont think so, get SA to try his best to work out where to use him and when and aim for that.
-
can see the similarities in cisse with diouf both cost liverpool a small fortune and produced nothing but when it comes to us unless we are really thinking owen or martins or BOTH are going then we dont need him for a 3/4 choice striker, and when you have viduka sitting there waiting to be taken for nowt i know where i would want us to go and it wouldnt be taking cisse off liverpool
-
only negative i can see about the guy is if 1- he started wanting to play for the national team again 2- he wanted mega high wages 3- he is comming from boro other than that he has been emmence for them sinse xmas. so a player we all slated for being fat and lazy has 4 good months, and sudenly he's the man for us? when did I ever say I wanted him to play for us????? all i said was that he has good qualities to be used as a player incase of injuries I would never class him as a starter for the first team week in week out, we have gaping holes in our squad if we can get an additional striker on the cheap then great and he is one of them you could class as a cheap 3rd striker. With his age in mind I wouldnt see him that bothered about spending time on the bench going out and buying a young hungry player would make him want to play well we already have 3 of those.
-
with martins or owen playing why would we need two players with massive ammounts of pace, we need some one who can grab a goal and has good awareness and reading of the game all of which he has and he isnt that old in terms of what SA usually goes for so would get 2-3 yrs from him
