    Was trying to be realistic.

If our wide players offered a goal threat this would make sense. I'd be up for Wissa cutting in from the left or right and Gordon or Elanga (for pace alone) cutting in from the other side. Eddie has his reasons for not trying it though.

    NUFC Transfer Rumours

He looks more like an athletic wide man than a skilful one.

    U23s & Academy

Has that stopped them putting serious money into since? Genuine question...

    U23s & Academy

I honestly didn't realise that investing in the academy didn't count towards PSR. If we haven't to a significant degree it would mean, for me at least that there is a very real and close ceiling to PIF's ambitions regarding us as a powerhouse of a football club. Would indicate that's largely rhetoric.

    NUFC Transfer Rumours

What we need is a player that’s played against us and done well, a player Eddie has seen plenty in the flesh and would feel comfortable giving him a start within a month or two of training with the team
  7. We sign some promising kid, doubt EH plays them. Waste of time and money. In fact, I would think the surest way for Ross Wilson to make his own position untenable is to pad the squad out with some no mark kids who’s stats suggest some upside.
  8. There’s plenty of hypocrisy in me and in every user of this forum, I’m sure. Astro’s point about previous players is valid, no point trying to avoid it. Also, our owners……Wew. In the end signing Greenwood wouldn’t be good business. He looks a very effective player but in the modern age brand association is very important and he’s a disease for any Prem club I would think. On a personal note @Astroblack, I’ve not particularly followed your post history or your PoVs but it’s clear you’re very stressed or dealing with something other than football. Lots of posters here can see that too but seemed to have enjoyed jumping on. That’s a shame and reflects badly on the forum overall. Hopefully you’ll still the waters somewhat soon. All the best.
  9. I mean, he didn’t get close to the WHam team for a reason. He was a punt that came to nowt.

    NUFC Transfer Rumours

I doubt any manager wants to sign development players instead of potential immediate starters. You want your signings to have an impact straight away. Issue for us EH is particularly averse to giving younguns minutes unless injuries really force his hand. Might be that the pressure for points and league position from above makes it a poor risk/reward decision for EH. Or maybe he has other reasons, whatever they are he has so far been very reluctant. That makes buying prospects in January because we have an injury crises unappetising.

Anderson certainly wouldn’t be the player he is today because he wouldn’t have got nearly enough minutes imo.
  12. Hope we’re not back in the mindset of ‘ there’s only 1 or 2 players in all of world football that could possibly improve us…’

    Sven Botman

Think he’ll get some form back at some point. He’d look a lot better if we had a midfield that even moderately protected us against transitions. We’ve lost some connections/ shape there. Dunno why.

That reeks of atrocious planning rather than having no choice but I understand the sentiment.

    Joelinton

Think with the way we play Bruno at 6 creates problems for us. Just about every opposition player bar the GK can run the ball past him. Bruno is Jorginho slow. You can’t leave him as the sole protector of the back line. Every transition would be a genuine goal scoring opportunity. Bruno and Tonali as the base pair in a 4231 would be very very useful but EH obvs has an aversion to that formation. JL can’t play there either imo.
  16. Niiice hospital. Used to work round the corner.
  17. Did well against Aaronson for the most part. When he went to CM he seemed to crowd the right hand side and was less effective for it. Would’ve liked to have seen him with the ball playing from the middle. Too cool for school on the ball when at CB. Proving to be a very valuable squad member with his positional flexibility.
  18. Go on!!!!!!! Best city in the WORLD
  19. Thought he was ok tbh. Miley, who was good again at RB didn’t really improve upon Tonali with the position switch and sub (that’s a compliment to Miley as much as a defence of Sandro).

Tbh, apart from the assist I don’t think he affected the game much in general play. Was the first time though that he has been subbed for Wissa and we looked worse.
  21. EH is a fantastic manager of players and obvs a very fastidious coach. However, we do not look like a well coached team atm. I’m not saying we aren’t well coached, but it is not apparent yet pretty much all season apart from over running a couple of teams. I’ve no idea if the style we are trying to implement needs changing or that the players are just not consistently applying EH’s instructions. There was some fluidity to our movement last night when we got in and around the box. That looked good and having Hall and Gordon pop up in unusual positions could be a good way to open teams up. It was apparent though that when we lost the ball that fluidity meant they (and quite a few other ‘lesser’ teams this season) could waltz up the pitch towards our area practically unchallenged. That really, really needs addressing. It is happening so often. WRT fluidity, seems a bit damned if you do, damned if you don’t for us currently. I have a horrible feeling a big issue could be Woltemade. He’s good when he comes deep for the ball but we don’t often put runners in the position he vacated. And if he stays high he’s more or less out of the game without Isak’s ability to nick a goal that didn’t look on for anyone else. Seems like an assist machine though which is awesome. Perhaps this is just a transition season and we have to take what we can from it and look forward to what we could turn into next season. We’ll need some type of European football. By March we should have an idea whether that’s on or not.
  22. Doesn’t he have a cross intercepted in that Insta video?
  23. Can’t remember if I booed Souness. May have done. Full on fisticuffs going on between his many supporters and few detractors though. Remember that well enough.
