  1. Petrov a danger man? Oh, Parky! How wrong you are. And we didn't play well against Liverpool, we were absolutely rubbish. I'm getting my Petrov's mixed up is there another at ManCity... You were shit in the first half but game back strongly in the second. YOu didn't expect to beat them did you? Well who is your danger man then....Young?The team looks so workmanlike.... Why didn't you pick Carew? Why shouldn't we go into home games expecting to win? We were really shit in the first half and mediocre at best in the second half. The danger will come from our pace, Ashley Young, Agbonlahor and Luke Moore (if played, and there's a good chance, as Carew is clearly not fit right now). If you've got dodgy full backs still, we can get some joy there.
  2. Like this ^^^ although Cahill may replace Laursen (who went off at half time on Saturday), and Carson will probably replace Taylor (although he had a blinder on Saturday). Agbonlahor is wasted wide right. Personally, I'd play Carson New RB Cahill Mellberg Bouma Young Reo-Coker Gardener Barry Moore Agbonlahor How do you think you'll get on mate? I think we'll lose, on account of not having a proper right back, and having a defence that is one bad challenge away from catastrophe. Although we've got plenty of pace up front, it depends how much joy Ashley Young gets, really.

  5. Dave, did you see Petrov's "challenge" on Gerrard for that free kick? It was pathetic, Gerrard ran into him, Petrov played the ball. Ref initially ignores it, Gerrard then looks at the ref, holds his hands out and gets the free kick. Incidentally, he and Gerrard had a good old chat and laugh together on the final whistle, too. Riley's performance was the worst I've seen for a very, very long time indeed.
  6. Bouma and Craig Gardener. Much talk, little action. Everyone knows he likes to do his business at the very last moment, but it is getting out of hand at the moment. You'll beat us on Saturday.
  7. Usually I'd agree with you. But we're top, so fuck off.
  8. It is really futile to make judgements like this after one game of the season. Although, contradicting myself here, I disagree with you about Liverpool. They looked really excellent coming forward yesterday. Their problem is that if Man United had had that 30 min spell against us that Liverpool did, they'd have scored 4 or 5 times. Liverpool didn't, and almost conspired to throw away two points in a match they fully deserved to win. That will cost them their title aspirations if they don't tighten up on it. But, as i said, one game is about as good an indication as pre season friendlies are (ie not at all).
  9. That's another favourite of mine. And I couldn't agree more about the flat packs. Compare and contrast the Reebok and Boro to Fulham and Portsmouth.
  10. My favorite away trip is Fulham. Old style ground, with an Archibald Leitch stand, without a doubt the most impressive location, a cramped, old fashioned away end, plus the neutral end next to it which always ends up being 90 percent away supporters. It might be an old, small, run down ground, but if you get Fulham away towards the end of the season, and the weather is good, there really are fewer better football trip experiences.

5.15 kick offs are a bad, bad idea for exactly this reason, too much drinking time, but Liverpool's fans yesterday were an absolute disgrace.

The incidents I saw or heard about were ... ... loads of really, really shit faced Liverpool fans starting trouble on the walk from the car parks by Spaghetti Jcn to the ground. ... Liverpool fans in the seated area in one of the boxes in the lower Witton lane stand gesturing at and throwing stuff at Villa fans below. One bloke, to his credit, actually climbed up the front of the box and twatted the main offender. ... Liverpool fans in the home areas - we've all done it, but you know the score, kep your mouth shut, don't take the piss. There were fights going off all round the place. ... Outside the Witton lane after the match - loads of scuffles going off all over the place. ... On the slope to Trinity Road, the grounds of Aston Hall - fights before and after the match. And, biggest of all ... We were stuck in traffic outside the leisure centre car park, just after which is a boozer called the Aston Social. A Liverpool coach stopped, opened the doors and a load of scallies got out and started chucking stuff at Villa fans drinking outside. It really did get nasty, loads of fighting in the road, Villa fans ripping up fences and attacking the Liverpool fans. We only ever have this problem with Liverpool and Man United supporters, and it is always, always about the same thing - thinking they own the place and can do what they want. I saw one Liverpool fan get a right kicking in the Trinity Road - he'd actually sat in there with a Liverpool shirt on! What kind of moron does that? Why do we never have this problem with, say, Everton fans?

You are right, it wasn't a free kick, and Riley gave them almost everything, but on the other hand, they did deserve to win.

Craig Gardener, Barry, Taylor (I can't believe I've said that) and Young were our best players today. Otherwise we were mediocre. Liverpool wasted a lot of chances, they won't win the league until they consistently put away chances like that. On today's showing, Man United would have had 4. That is the difference. Oh, and Mike Riley put in the worst refereeing performance I've seen in years. Not sending Pennant off, giving that absurd free kick purely because Gerrard wanted it, he is a f****** c*** of the highest order. If we sign Bosingwa and Curtis Davies this week, I will return to being very optimistic. EDIT incidentally, Liverpool fans are f****** 1980s throwbacks, saw loads of trouble after the game today, and apparently it was going off around the ground during the match, as well. They want to get a f****** grip. Watched the game, mate and what I couldn't understand is that you were toothless in attack for 75mins. Then the urgency set's in and you look a different side. Opening day jitters, I assume and a squad that hasn't settled. Plus Liverpool are a good side. And yes, from a total refereeing standpoint, Mike Riley was s***. Disrupted the flow of the game numerous times. We gifted them midfield, what was the main problem. Just let them get on with it. What did you make of Reo Coker Brummie? He seemed quite one dimensional to me. Receiving a pass and then passing it to the right wing was all I really saw him do. Surprised you didnt throw Harewood in towards the end as well. Gerrards free kick wasnt a freekick like but the goal was awesome. He'll be dishing that out on the rest of us, you're not alone. When we played Inter last week, NRC was exceptional, did the simple stuff, broke up play, played nice short passes, was really very good. Today he was very poor, just not there. We really did gift them midfield, although I suspect the problem may actually be Petrov. Gardener at emergency right back has 10 times the commitment of Petrov, is a local lad who just oozes pride to wear the shirt, a very promising player, and capable of scoring the odd exceptional goal (Bolton last season), but there he is shovelled in at right back when he should be in midfield. Disappointing. Interesting point of today was that i saw more aggro at a ground than I've seen in the best part of 20 years, I reckon. A proper throwback.

  17. I think the best approach to take with summer transfer coverage in the papers is to ignore absolutely fucking everything. The journos are all as bored as we are.
  18. Apologies. It is the stress of a MON transfer window that is doing it. 2 days till start, still no right back, just the one LB etc etc Martin Nodeal. mackems.gif yeah yeah, well, yeah right, errm, Sam Bummerdyce, yeah
  19. Apologies. It is the stress of a MON transfer window that is doing it. 2 days till start, still no right back, just the one LB etc etc ...and no nearer signing Jussi! We're having Carson on loan for the year. Then we'll be back for Jussi for nowt at the end of the season.

  21. Yes better to have Nigel Reo-Coker sulking about having to play for you instead of Arsenal. Nigel 'England U21 Captain' Reo-Coker, that one you mean? Seemed quite happy to join for us, as it happened. Looked excellent on Saturday and in pre-season, played that holding midfield role excellently, kept the game flowing, allowed Petrov to get forward. Much better than that useless idiot who tried playing that role last year ... what was his name again?
  22. When you're going to be struggling against relegation from the off, players with a shit attitude are the absolute last thing you need. How's his weight these days? Doesn't he have problems in that area?
  23. Is Mido still available? I don't know. Actually, I've just remembered, things could be worse. We could still have that pointless, clogging waste of organs Gavin McCann polluting our midfield, or Jloyd "Stroppy Teenager" Samuel flouncing around thinking he's Roberto Carlos.
  24. Very good keeper. I'd have thought he'll be wanting a proper move soon. It can only get better.... i think Well it can't get any worse. If i was a girl, I'd have stormed out the office to the bogs in floods of tears today, so fucked off was I with this whole mess.
