Surely you can only judge him once he's had the chance to do what he is there to do, and you've seen whether he has done it or not. Although he's got quite a large head, which makes him instantly less trustworthy in my book.

When we played Liverpool on the first day of the season, Gerrard got that flaky free kick in the last minute from which he scored. In absolutely no way whatsover was it a free kick, he gave it as a result of Gerrard's whingeing. Gerrard conned the referee. Media reaction? Ah well, Liverpool deserved to win anyway. Gerrard's reaction? "Over the course of the season these things even out". So, fast forward one week .... Chelsea get dodgy pen at the expense of Liverpool. Gerrard's reaction? Clearly not from the 'these things even out' school of the week before. The media's reaction? Hysteria. Gerrard is a cunt. The media are cunts. Fact.

Ha ha, fuck, great minds

Am i the only person to have just heard that on SSN's papers round up? In one of the red tops, didn't catch which one.

At one point in the 1960s, Villa had three midfield players called Brown, Arce and Hole. They never played together, apparently, which was a terrible shame. Arce was a south american of some description.

You were unlucky in that Martin Laursen was in absolutely inspired form (and not in his frequent injured state). According to the Telegraph he completed 20 clearances and his pass completion ratio was 84%, plus he very nearly scored. I can't remember the last time I saw a defender so consistently win everything in the air.

Liverpool, in my experience, have MORE daytripping, witless, gloryhunting morons supporting them than Man United. We had loads of problems when we played them last week with them turning up in our ends, genuinely not realising that they were going to get a slap if they jumped up and down then they scored. Classic signs of a one game a season daytripper. Everton have an absolutely immense history, to compare them with Sunderland is ridiculous (and even Sunderland have a decent history). Yep. I always see the history of Villa getting downplayed/ignored on forums as well Indeed. Villa and Everton have almost identical histories, which get ignored by the mainstream media these days, and certainly in the Sky era. Villa - Everton is the most played fixture in the history of English football. I've always had a soft spot for Everton since the mammoth 1977 LC final tussles, as have a lot of Villa fans of my kind of age.

The thing about "hating teams" is that it is a fallacious statement. I listed West Ham as one of the teams I hate, but I used to work with a couple of Hammers fans and they were absolutely sound blokes, and when talking to them about football, I'd warm to their club. It is all a load of shit really (except for bitter local rivalries).

On the atmosphere ... I was quite impressed with our support yesterday, came across pretty loud on the telly.Or was that because the mics were right in front of them? The phenomenon of away fans making more noise than 15 times as many home fans happens at every ground in the country, btw.

Birmingham (under evolved morons), Man United (gloryhunting scum), Tottenham (delusions of grandeur), West Ham (cheats), Liverpool (1980s throwback supporters).

Two games in and this sort of talk? There's a contradiction when people moan and moan and moan about the previous chairman and what a fucking mess the club was, then new people come in, with a new manager, and then the same people moan that things don't go exactly according to plan after two games (incidentally, exactly the same thing happened with us). If it was really as bad under the old regime as you say it was, why are you surprised that it takes more than two league matches to fix?

Gerrard is such a whining fucking cunt.

This is absolutely nothing to do with political correctness (apart from which, coppers, politically correct? That's a new one on me). This is about two coppers wanting to lord it over people and seizing on the first opportunity they got.

Were I a cynical chap, I might suspect the real problem Spurs have with Jol is that he's a big squad Dutchman without a huge reputation, and thus not quite gamorous enough.

Nope just another opinion. Give it time, too early to judge on 2 games, AND still unbeaten, with the defence looking better than last season. It's grossly oversimplifying to say, "135 minutes of pure s***" we've played some good football and some not so good. Villa came for the draw, defended deep, and got their point we couldnt break them down on the day. As for Bolton 2nd half (I'm assuming you're not including 1st half in your total of s*** football fact stat), the job was done, you often see a second half peter out when one side takes a good lead in the 1st half as they look to hold the lead rather than extend it, that's what happened to us then. Villa came for 3 points - they created better chances than we did. I quite agree, with all the will in the world, I can't see how we can be accused of playing for the draw after we had four very good goalscoring chances, every one of which might have gone in on a different day, whilst our keeper had to make one save in 90 minutes. Barry had an off day, we gifted you the midfield, Milner looked dangerous at times, but he was the only one who did Oh, and if i was one of you, the commentators going on about England when Owen came on would make me so fucking angry ....

I heard it on Setanta. Madras, do you really not think Allardyce will get it right?
-
If Spurs ditch Jol on the basis of two dodgy results at the start of the season, despite having taken them to two top six finishes, including their first for, what was it, 17 years, then football has finally eaten itself. Absolutely ridiculous.

Having good defenders play like that does not mean you are playing defensively, it means you are defending well. To be honest, with what they were up against today, Mellberg and Laursen barely got out of first gear. Laursen won absolutely everything in the air the whole 90 minutes. I'd also point out that there was one team hoofing the ball up the pitch aimlessly, and it wasn't Villa. We're the away team, that's what away teams do - soak up pressure, hit on the break, especially when they have players with pace like Young and Agbonlahor. I'm struggling to think of Carson having to do anything other than Rozenhal's shot on goal which brought a save out. Conversely, I can think of Carew's shot, Harper tipping NRC's shot round the post, Laursen's header cleared by the keeper, and Agbonlahor shooting rather than passing to NRC for an absolutely certain goal. It is a bit too easy to say "they're a defensive team". We haven't even got a right back at the club, FFS, we had a 20 year old midfielder playing there, and he barely had to break sweat. And why criticise mdifielders for tracking back to defend? Oh, and ironically, I thought we gifted you midfield. Your MotM was without a doubt Milner, he looked absolute quality. The only other one worthy of mention was Zog, i thought, who i think will be a big player for you if you handle him right. Viduka was awful, I thought, although I still think he will turn out to be a good signing. Overall, I thought it was a mediocre match between two sides who still have a lot to do. I'm happy with a point as we're basically hanging on squad-wise until MON does all his business on the last day of the window. The booing was sad to hear (although, I'll admit, there were boos at full time in our match last week, which is remarkable, although I suspect they were aimed at the ref), but you've got to give Big Sam time to put things right, you really can't expect him to come in and wave a magic wand and make everything OK. He'll get it right.
-
Who looked the likelier to score? And playing 4-5-1 at home? Did you watch the match?
-
Not the best of games. Laursen won everything, Mellberg looked unflustered, we need a proper right back at the club so we can put Gardener in midfield. I thought Milner was your best player by some distance. We didn't take our chances. Other than Rozenhal's shot, did Carson have anything to do? Two sides with a lot to do, still.
-
What's he bringing him on for? How peculiar.
-
Villa fans making a bit of noise. This has 0-0 written all over it. Laursen is a rock.
-
We're making it too easy for you in midfield, NRC is anonymous, and Petrov keeps getting caught in possession. I wouldn't be surprised to see Moore on for Carew.

How many games did N'Zogwhatsisname play last season?
