Haha, you've got a class manager and i'd be confident watford will be going back up if i was a fan I'm confident, but our board is semi-suicidal. There were calls of sack the manager after Saturday's result, and this won't help put the razors away. Further delay to the Leicester game, a player collapsed in the dressing room. Oooh, another non Newcastle fan. I don't know of another board where there are so many supporters of other teams. That is a good thing. PS: Ashley Young .... *thumbs up*

What about as a fourth choice CB? How does this look as a CB line up - Laursen, Mellberg, Cahill, Knight? Or Laursen, Mellberg, Cahill, Davis, Knight? Looked at in that light, it makes sense. If he were signed as a starting CB it would be entirely different.
-
If he doesn't play for England in the next 12 months, then my name's Marlon Harewood. He's a very good player imo, could maybe fill that left wing role for England? I fear the golden child Downing may present a frankly ridiculous obstacle.

9.65 on Ashley Young is money superbly well spent, as you'd realise if you'd seen his form at the end of last season, at the U21 championships and the start of this season. Also, I'd point out that NRC has had an excellent start to the season, too. 8m for the England U21 captain isn't a ridiculous price. So, that's Harewood and Knight for 7.5 combined, a fourth choice striker and a fourth choice CB, only one of which we've actually signed. Facts, eh. Tricky.

Not what local journos are telling people I know (ITKs if you like), their story is that they want a package worth 10m-ish, and the problem is they want a player in exchange. I'd be happy to pay 8 or 9 (lets be honest, fees have gone mental), but no more.

He's not a terrible player. He's not Paolo Maldini, either, though. As a fourth choice CB he is about as good as it gets.

There can only be one or two explanations for this. West Brom don't want to sell Davies for cash alone as Luton get a third of it. They've asked for Cahill in part exchange. So we get Davies, Laursen, Mellberg and Knight as our CBs, with Cahill going to Albion (although he could also just be going there on loan). Looked at that way, it isn't too bad. The other interpretation is that we'll have Laursen, Mellberg, Cahill and Knight as our CBs, which isn't actually that bad a line up. Either way, Knight is fourth choice CB, and is probably about as good a player as you could get to be fourth choice. The fact he is Fulham's skipper and a regular starter and opting for the bench is odd, but then again he's from Solihull and a Villa supporter, which may explain it. Oh, and he actually scored for us on Saturday, bizarrely enough.

See also Villa fans to Pennant. "Randy, Randy, buy them a roof" - Villa fans getting pissed on in the open away end at Fratton and last week, against Fulham at our place, whilst we were playing badly and the ground was near silent, 500 Fulham fans singing "You're Blues with a bit less noise" which is both inventive and very witty.

We used to have Tony Cunningham play for us in 1980's & a large portion of crowd used to give out racist abuse to likes of Barnes, Viv Anderson, John Barnes etc. Just because we have some players that tick a few boxes dont mean we cant have some racists in our ranks. When Cole or Sir Les used to miss sitter sometimes you would hear "Useless black bastard". I recall the chant "He's black, he's broon, he's playing for the Toon, Cooningham, Coonighham" back then. Back then racism was far more prevalent, although even then it died out at some grounds much later than others. Obviously, given the make-up of the area around Villa Park, we hear it more often than at some other grounds, and it almost always comes from fans of teams from less multi-ethnic areas (and, if I'm entirely honest about it, one of the worst examples of it in recent years was from Newcastle fans before the game). Does this mean "Newcastle fans are racist"? No. The point is: 1. Racism is wrong regardless of who it is targetted at. 2. Getting pissed and carried away whilst on an away trip does not excuse it. 3. A few pricks chanting racist crap in an away support of 3000 doesn't mean the entire support is racist, it just means there are a few underevolved morons there. 4. Suggesting that chanting things about shoe bombers at a player of Arab descent is not racist is deluded, and only a small step away from that ludicrous "'Paki isn't an offensive word, it is just an abbreviation, like Aussie' argument".

The relationship between Newcastle and Middlesbrough always striikes me as a bit like that between Villa and Coventry (or, indeed, Leicester City). Coventry fans absolutely fucking hate Villa, they see us as their main enemy. Villa fans, however, really do not give a toss about Coventry, other than pleasure at relegating them a few years ago, and it is this which actually feeds their hatred for us - the very fact that we don't give a toss. I know it is a bit different as there are an awful lot of league clubs in the area around Villa (and Coventry) and not many between Newcastle and Boro, but the relationship has always struck me as pretty similar.

Is that Forrest Whittaker? On the right, obv. or B.B King Just out of shot: Eric Clapton, nose up shitbox.

Wearing a toon shirt? What a fucking part timer. Lerner has had the Villa badge tattooed on his leg. Obv, leg tattoos are the tackiest thing on earth, but we'll let that one slip.

not so sure,i'd reckon a lot of players could be offered more here and at villa but would still go to man utd/chelski for the chance of winning medals. Yes, but with medals comes money.

Of course, in reality, our actual choices would be perverted by money, and we all know that, deep down.
-
why would boro be so high up? Gareth Southgate, George Boateng, Ugo Ehiogu. Mercenary cunts. That's why.

What is bad about your derby is exactly the same with ours. The idea of getting beaten by a newly promoted side is dreadful. The idea of getting beaten by a newly promoted hated rival is just too dreadful for words. When the Blueshite got promoted, we had a run of the most depressing results against them you could ever imagine. My worst moments in football.

] From my period attending games at SJP, I always remember there was a reasonable amount of needle between you and Spurs, but far more where West Ham were concerned.
