  1. Lovenkrands was free and Best cost around £1m.
  2. We can forget signing an established 'star' for a striker. Newcastle wouldn't pay Andy Carroll £80k a week (rightly in my view as all the other players would want those sort of wages and we'd be back where we started) so there is no way we'd buy e.g. Hulk for £20m+ and pay him those sort of wages. I'd rather we got a striker who is performing well in an average to poor team than a striker who is performing OK in a great team. There's a danger in going for strikers who play for great teams e.g. Bendtner at Arsenal. They are surrounded by quality players. What happens when the quality of player around them drops? Look what happens when clubs buy Man U cast offs. Butt, Smith, etc were shit when not surrounded by top quality. I can't say I think Elmander is great but for free I'd take him assuming his wage demands were reasonable. I'd want another new striker as well.
  3. Man U were happy to get Owen for free. I wouldn't have a problem getting Elmander for free. If Newcastle we're interested in him surely it's better to get him for free rather than paying a fee. We need a squad not just a first 11.
  4. He wasn't available for loan. He wasn't even available to buy after Birmingham changed their mind. I suppose we may get him for free in the Summer.
  5. Steven Taylor in a Range Rover near Four Lane Ends. Don't talk on your mobile whilst driving Steven. Especially when you are overtaking a learner driver and coming head on at my car.
  6. You spelt grammar incorrectly. Now that's ironic. To be fair to Pardew, Shearer says "Done" instead of "Did" on 'Match of the Day' all the time. It makes him sound thick.
  7. He had an operation two weeks ago to sort out his knee. He may be back for a couple of games at the end of the season or he'll wait until next season to be safe. http://www.nufc.co.uk/articles/20110208/gosling-the-toughest-year-of-my-life_2281670_2288677
  8. I hope he's at least taking regular English lessons. He's been injured for months so he should have plenty of free time to learn. He's also signed a 4 and a half year contract so it makes sense to learn the language as soon as possible (unless he's going to 'do a Tevez' and not bother).
  9. It's just our luck that a moment of mass celebration results in one of our players getting injured.

  11. Is there a list of players who's contracts end in the Summer? That's the sort of player Newcastle seem to like to go for where possible. I don't have a problem with that approach to expanding the squad. Saves money for a striker. Sebastian Larsson and Johan Elmander are two in the Premiership for a start. We are rumoured to be after Sylvain Marveaux: - http://www.newcastle-online.org/nufcforum/index.php/topic,74444.0.html There must be a lot of others worth a look.

  14. It goes without saying but I'll say it anyway, Piers Morgan is an odious cunt.
  15. To be fair, Liverpool bought Carroll for £35m and apparently he will be out injured for another 5 to 8 weeks. They signed him on a 5 and a half year contract where as we've got Ireland on loan until the end of the season. I knew someone would take that post 100% seriously. Why isn't there a "not entirely serious post" smiley?
  16. I wonder if Best's disallowed goal will be included in the MOTD highlights? They may decided not to show it if are going with the 'Arsenal woz robbed' slant on their highlights.

  18. It's amazing how much Newcastle supporters seem to hate most of our own team. The only popular players seem to be Tiote, Ranger, Enrique and Coloccini.
  19. They thought it was his hamstring on Radio Newcastle then corrected themselves and said it was cramp.
  20. What's unreasonable about that? He's not going to want another season in the Championship so wait until we're safe before re-negotiating. It would be quicker to list who would stay rather than who would leave if we got relegated again.
  21. Yeah! What a tool getting elbowed in the face by Sidwell. We don't want our third top scorer this season playing.
  22. Gotten is a word of UK origin dating back to the middle ages. Shakespeare, for one, used "gotten" and not "got". "Got" is actually a shortened version of "Gotten", which is a much older word, shortened by speakers of British English no less. The irony here is that you are complaining about the Americans actually using the long, original, version of a word when the general consensus is that the American version of English is lazy. Just had to clear that up. "Got and gotten are not identical in use. Gotten usually implies the process of obtaining something, as in he had gotten us tickets for the show, while got implies the state of possession or ownership, as in I haven't got any money." I'll edit "American" out and the point still stands. "He got us tickets for the show" is a lot less of a mouthful than "he had gotten us tickets for the show".
  23. His new car was torched in Newcastle a few months ago, what's your point? It was tongue in cheek. Every Liverpool player seems to get burgled. During matches of course. Yes. I was going to say when they play in Europe but I couldn't remember if they're still in the Europa cup.
