Can you not see Given coming out in tomorrow's papers pleeding the club to allow him to leave for City after he has been such a good servant etc..? By letting him speak to City we are sending out the message we are resigned to losing him, instead of a message where City will have to stump up or give up. If he wanted out he should have handed in an official transfer request before the transfer window opened not two days before it closes. Using his lawyer to voice his wish to leave was very bad form. I hope Newcastle wait until February the 2nd before selling him. Make the bastards at Man City sweat. I do begrudge the methods he has employed to engineer the move.

Given has been a loyal (very well paid) servant and I don't begrudge him wanting to leave but I do think he should hand in an official transfer request. There is no way he should get a 'loyalty bonus' which is supposed to be for players who haven't asked to leave.
