Wasn't Chris Waddle known as "Jigsaw" because he went to pieces in the box? Jonas is the same. He's great at running but when he gets to the final third he usually picks the wrong option. He never shoots and he doesn't seem to cross either. He always tries to pass it. Enrique had a good game and was probably our most creative, attacking player.

It is a fact that Ameobi is our penalty specialist. Check the stats. He's got a much better record of scoring penalties than Owen or Martins. I was almost confident when he stepped up to take it.

Shay Given signs for Manchester City for £5.9m plus add-ons

I doubt there is a player swap involved but the media didn't spot Nolan coming until it was done. The media have, at best, a piss poor 31% correct hit rate on transfers stories coming true. See the stats: - http://www.footballtransferleague.co.uk/Default.aspx -

We should be behind him? No, he's the one putting us behind him. As I've said before, Given has been a good, massively well paid servant to the club. He's leaving on a bad note for me. If he'd handed an official transfer request in just before the transfer window then I'd have respected him more. I support the club not the players. When they leave they become opposition players. I wish them no luck at all. All my wishes of good luck go to those playing in the Newcastle shirts. -

By "right" I mean we'll see who caves in first on the negotiating. You are saying Newcastle shouldn't have let Given talk to Man City. My opinion is that Newcastle buy themselves negotiating time by letting everything else be sorted out apart from the fee. Losing Given isn't good but he wants to leave. £5m is a joke offer. The money Man City have paid for other players in this window mean Given should be going for at least £12m in my opinion. If he goes for £8m it isn't great but it is better than £5m. It looks like whatever we get will be too late to spend. We may as well try to screw them out of every penny we can. -

We've rejected the two bids so far. I am aware of that, but do you not think allowing him to speak to City has any relevance..? What sort of signal do you think that sends to City and Shay? We'll see who is right when the window closes. -

Man City paid £19m for De Jong when he had a clause in his contract allowing him to go for £2.3m in the Summer. They are daft. -

Can you not see Given coming out in tomorrow's papers pleeding the club to allow him to leave for City after he has been such a good servant etc..? By letting him speak to City we are sending out the message we are resigned to losing him, instead of a message where City will have to stump up or give up. I'm sure Given and City wouldn't need days to agree on personal terms if they both want the move, so that argument's rubbish. I fear letting him speak to City before agreeing a transfer fee may well have knocked a few millions of the fee. We will be faced by a player who is hell bent on leaving us after his new club have dangled a carrot in his face. Where do we go if City don't offer what we want after all this: have one of our best players go on strike while we're in a relegation struggle..? The way I see it is that Newcastle let Given agree terms with Man City and then all that is left to do is negotiate a price. Newcastle can wait until the last possible moment on deadline day. Man City obviously really want Given. Newcastle can keep turning down Man City's offers until they get to what Newcastle want for Given. Worst case scenario is he doesn't leave. Not good having a player who doesn't want to be here but I think Man City will pony up before that happens. -

I can't understand people wishing Given good luck. Fuck him! He's forcing a move to one of our rivals at our moment of need. If you want to wish anyone good luck it should be Harper and the other Newcastle goalkeepers. Regarding the transfer, let him have a medical and agree terms with Man City now. We should then keep rejecting their offers up until the last minute of February the 2nd. See how hard we can push them. -
£4m not bad for a 26 year old who actually wants to play for us. I hope you play in the Premiership for the next 4.5 years Kevin!

Given has tarnished his reputation in my eyes. Loyal, massively well paid servant that he has been, he was always happy to sign those new contracts. If he wanted out he should have handed in an official transfer request before the transfer window opened not two days before it closes. Using his lawyer to voice his wish to leave was very bad form. I hope Newcastle wait until February the 2nd before selling him. Make the bastards at Man City sweat. They've been happy to pay way over the odds for other players yet won't even offer a fair price for Given? I don't begrudge Given wanting to leave. I do begrudge the methods he has employed to engineer the move. -
Charles N'Zogbia joins Wigan Athletic for fee believed to be £6.5m
LoveItIfWeBeatU replied to Nicky's topic in Football
All that because of a mispronounced name? Bullshit! He's just trying to force his way out the club. Fine him his weekly wages until he leaves. How the fuck can a player say they want to leave but it doesn't count as an official transfer request meaning if they are sold they are entitled to a loyalty bonus? Same goes for Given. -

Probably the only time the miserable bastard will ever smile will be when he leaves. Why do Newcastle buy players who have Willy McKay as an agent? It never turns out well. -
"Why have you done this to us?"

He will come in once we go down. We'll people did say he should learn his trade in the lower leagues. We didn't realise it would be managing us though.

Barton out for eight weeks (broken metatarsal), Owen TBC
LoveItIfWeBeatU replied to KaKa's topic in Football
Mike Ashley was worth £1.9Bn at his highest so if he's lost £2Bn he owes someone £100M. -
He wouldn't do it. He said he wouldn't work under Ashley's system. Would he want to be known as the person in charge when we were relegated? Also it took Keegan around 7 games to get a win when he took over from Allardyce. Shearer taking over an injury decimated, demoralised playing squad would he realistically be able to do enough to save us?

On the subject of injuries, why the hell did Newcastle give Ameobi a new contract (ignoring what you think of him as a player) when he was injured? He hasn't played since signing his new contract and he was injured before signing it. -
I've recast my vote as a 9. Massive injury list, little chance of getting new players, players wanting to leave, shite manager, 1 point from the last 15, etc. The only way were not going down at the moment is if none of the current bottom three pick up anymore points. The club is rotten to the core.

City might pay it. they've got the cash so they should Well they do owe us. Newcastle paid Barton's Man City 'Loyalty' bonus when he transferred to us. -

Given has been a loyal (very well paid) servant and I don't begrudge him wanting to leave but I do think he should hand in an official transfer request. There is no way he should get a 'loyalty bonus' which is supposed to be for players who haven't asked to leave.
