I wouldn’t mind starting any two of our four CBs really. But assuming Botman can stay healthy, I think it makes sense to have him replace Schar as first choice this season. Better to transition too early rather than too late, and I don’t want to be put in the position where we have to spend money on a Schar/Burn replacement once they’re actually too old because Botman becomes unhappy and leaves. Same goes for Thiaw but we have a little more time to ease him in since he’s just joined.

Would be nice if we actually had that option but we don’t so…

I’ll never fully understand how this happened but he is actually really good It’s not a bad thing that Elanga has a really good player in front of him that he needs to become better than.

He’s an extremely weird player and I think he could add a whole different dimension to our play when the others get used to playing with him and playing off him. In the meantime, he’ll score some goals.

I think Wolte will be noticeably better in a more open game where he has some space to use his technique for what it’s worth. But he’s doing a decent job just throwing himself around and holding up the ball too. (And obviously, the goal as well.)

I’ve decided that I love Woltemade if only for the way the commentators scream his name after a goal.

I do appreciate the conscious effort the marketing folks are making to integrate the Ashley-era players like Cisse, Tiote, Jonas etc. into the legacy of the club. It was a shit time for the club but there were still moments of love and magic with these players. They’re an important part of club history and we should give them their due unless we just want to be talking about Shearer and Sir Bobby in all our promotional material for the next twenty years. Just waiting for us to sign an Argentine for the inevitable Colo and Jonas video that will drive me to tears.
