Hopefully, aye, but my feeling is that it's more likely a kneejerk response to the Joelinton disaster and wanting to make 100% sure we're still a PL club by not making a mistake like that again. Think it's more that Ashley has checked out and left the building, they get a budget and are left to do what they want with it. Which is how it should always have been. If he'd done that with Rafa we'd be in a very different place now.
-
objectively speaking they've done good business for once if all of those deals complete
-
If our budget is 30m, and we're paying half that for Lewis, then we're maxed out with our 15+Ritchie bid. Blown out of the water by Villa Villa are loaded no? More that, not so very long ago, we were laughing at them. Didn't take long for them to blast past us. Oh no, yeah for sure. They got their takeover in the end, lucky fuckers

Who is better for £20m and wants to come here? I'd probably prefer King of the two of them. Manu and Tottenham want him, so doubt he’d be coming here. Watkins is interesting but a gamble. We used up that gamble with joelinton, I doubt we can afford to do it again. Wilson has scored double figures in the PL once and has had a few injuries. He's a gamble. That’s the table we’re dining at. Every player we buy is going to have a black mark or two against them, or they’ll be joining a proper club. Wilson scores goals at this level, so an improvement on what we’ve got. Even an injured Wilson is 3 times more productive than our record signing. I'm not that fussed either way personally but if Watkins was available at a similar price (doubtful) he'd be a much better signing imo, and hardly much more of a gamble.

Some good old British and Irish spirit to mask the managers failings. What a time to be alive.

As always in the Ashley era striker is going to be the major issue. If we get that lb we could probably muddle through the season fairly comfortably if we had a striker capable of double figures.

same here, feels weird...i'll probably still try to catch our games on dodgy telly when the season starts out of grim fascination and the hope that we're as bad as i fully expect us to be :/
-
there's always talk of what can be done to even out the PL in terms of money etc. - what do you think the effect would be if you americanised the prize money, so to speak, so the title winners get the least money and bottom the most etc.? would have an immediate impact but could it help long term?

I often wonder if we're just precious, spoiled cunts over Ashley when you compare to how bad some other clubs have it but then you read shit like this last page and it's fully justified. Just sabotage for no reason whatsoever. Fuck the takeover now, I hope Ashley loses everything on this club no matter how long it takes.

i found kane's attempt at being a leader or whatever it was really odd in that 3rd episode, along the lines of "everyone is just hiding and passing the buck to other people, it's been going on all season and i don't know why"...he himself blaming everyone else and essentially passing the buck to his teammates
-
really? kinell he's the last cunt that needs to catch that, hopefully he's ok as much as i can't stand him would rather he not die :/
-
tbh given steve bacon is our manager these freebies aren't bad business at all imo, horrifying obviously, but probably as good as we could expect with ashley still in the seat

1.5 eps in, sadly mou coming across as very likeable :/

he's a really good player that kid, jelly...where do you think you'll play him though? pogba to sit deeper and him to play alongside bruno, or drop a striker and play him further up it's an odd signing from that perspective, but you need depth obviously i guess We only play one striker so that won't change. When de Jong left Ajax van de Beek dropped deeper so I imagine the plan is a van be Deek, Pogba, Bruno midfield with Pogba and Bruno more advanced. Matic, Fred, McTominay for depth. Although I reckon this signing could spell the end of Fred unfortunately. That would be an absolute waste of Van de Beek's best qualities yeah, he was incredible playing high in that ajax run to the CL SF, never seen someone with so much energy and pace in that position pogba deeper would be my bet but who knows EDIT: suppose one thing ajax gradutes bring you is a high degree of versatility like, can probably play every position

It doesn't matter whether there is a top earner clause or not. Messi is deserving of the million per week he gets with his goals and assists and the exposure he brings. Atleast for a season or two. Problem is there will be an inflation effect on other contract negotiations. Players like Pogba, Greenwood, Rashford or Salah, Mane, Van Dijk (if he moves to LFC) will be able to squeeze or demand at least 50-150K per week extra based on Messi's contract. I don't know the details but I am betting Sanchez's contract has an influence on De Gea's new wages. You cannot pay Messi million per week and keep the next tier of stars at 150K per week. I mean it might be justified but in reality it does not work like that. Salah, Mane, Pogba will start demanding 400-500K per week. The wage inflation might reach a level where even winning a CL or two or premier league titles might not justify the outlay for clubs that spend only from what they generate. You'd imagine creative accounting could mitigate that to some degree. Image rights, bonuses and whatever else to bump it up but keeping the basic down as much as possible.

He’s good but not a CF. Other than Carroll we still have no CF who can lead the line in the truest sense of the word He is a centre forward. Watkins, remembered his name. Take James point to a degree, he's not a Carroll type gonna successfully fight for hoofs with Bruceball but then neither is Armstrong, which was the point. Watkins physically better suited imo, reminds me of Calvert-Lewin a bit. Carroll is a centre forward from a bygone age, but in this day and age they need more - Watkins is very much a modern centre forward. Good mobility and creativity whilst being decent in the air (he scored 8 headers last season) and a goalscorer. He can play wide but he spent the vast majority of last season as a central striker. Totally agree
