Xavi over Zidane PS: Do you want the 2002 WC Nicky Butt as well? (voted as the Best Player of the Tournament by no less than Pele) - he was pretty decent at passing the ball 5 yards as well Xavi is a good player, but Fabregas did in 20minutes what Xavi couldn't do in 90+ minutes. To give Xavi, who is a good player in a good team, the same billing as Zidane, is ridiculous. Why hasn't Ronaldo destroyed you in this thread yet? sometimes amazes me how people can't actually understand their own language*, they can read it but they just don't understand it i like Kid Icarus's analogy - Xavi is the composer of the orchestra, anyone who thinks that Spain would now be reigning European & World champions without Xavi needs their fucking head read...the whole philosophy of their game and style of play revolves around keeping possession and he dictates that for them, for that achievement alone he deserves to be considered a great check out Xavi's stats sometime man, he completes more passes than entire teams ffs Zidane was the Maestro, the soloist, much more natural talent and will rightly be remembered as one of the greats and also be held in higher regard than Xavi due to his sublime talent i just don't see what's wrong with people trying to point out Xavi should now be considered one of the greatest of his time, of my time certainly... *i'm assuming English is your first language

Can we not just agree that they're both geniuses, but in different ways? no, that'd make sense my perspective: xavi controls every game he plays in but he does it from much deeper on the pitch and thus can appear ordinary to the untrained eye zidane didn't control as much (%) of the game or i'd say as many game as xavi does but he also played higher up the pitch so when he did turn it on he lit the games up and that's what we remember about him so fondly you're right Kid Icarus, very different types of player so a pointless comparison really xavi will always be underestimated 'cause of where he plays on the park and how often he puts in performances though - his consistency marks him as one of the all time great midfielders for me...he'd be the first name on my team sheet 'cause you'd know he'd make it hard for the other team to get the ball

The only thing that concerns me is that the Evertonians are all saying he is slow and lacks flair. You would like to think he has one of the two, like for instance Guthrie, who might not be quick but has some ability on the ball. However at the same time they seem to think they should be getting £3-5m for him which would suggest there's more to his game than they care to admit. interesting comparison(s) with milner, eerily the same for me - flourished with quality coaching lucky we have that in abundance for gosling isn't it? I don't really see the comparison with Milner who at least has the ability to run at people and a decent strike on him. Milner might have got slagged off here but not many denied he had ability, it was always a case of him not using it right/being mis-used. milner ran at plenty of people for us aye, and he also hit 99% of his crosses into the first man, or stands, or out of play or whatever...his end product for us was shite at villa his end product has improved and he actually looks faster - with us all he really did was work hard and his the very occasional decent shot i was a fan of milner, a big fan, but it's obvious to me he wasn't coached correctly at NUFC so i'm saying people are on about gosling having potential to 'this and that' and suggesting he'll go the way of milner with us, i.e. nowhere

very, very surprising - he misses so many chances it's untrue, if we were discussing with him i'd be dubious...can't see him flourishing in this league but roy has made worse players than him look good i suppose I agree, he's a brilliant player but he has never, ever, ever been a good finisher. Doesn't have the composure to be prolific anywhere. Could just be paper talk. There are also some fears that the Liverpool board are signing him specifically for the shirt sales. maybe in a team with a prolific out and out striker he'd flourish, in fact i could see that as he works hard as fuck and has good movement and some creativity - i thought Korea suffered in the WC quite a bit 'cause a lot of chances came his way and he fluffed them (well, important ones, maybe not a lot) as finishing ain't his thing as you say

imagine what difference a fit (physically & mentally) barton plus a young midfielder who can run (assuming he can still run) like gosling will make to our side...god, i think i'm pissing my pants at the prospect of a semi-normal functioning central midfield on the flipside, another breakdown for barton & gosling being a permacrock makes me virtually shit myself with dread

nice to see someone rated Gosling highly enough to include him before[/b] it was announced we were supposedly signing him
-
pretty sure one of them is at it right now
-
fail to see any negatives unless (a) he never recovers from the current injury or (b) we're paying crazy wages for him which won't be the case
-
someone was going for free and we didn't get him...pretty shocked by that actually
-
same, i actually forgot who won it the other day when i was trying to think back

I'm Baffled. Dowie is baffled. That was the best I've seen from '94 onwards. '94 was totally mint, then it's '02 for me...'98, '06 and this pile of shite were forgettable

that's what i was looking for...!

The 2010-2011 Betting Thread - forum gamble fails, Ash's fault.

When did you put it on? Before the WC started. surely you'd have got more back taking either of those as singles let alons having the double come in (all be it shared). have you got in touch with them to find out how they arrived at that ammount ? Nope, just took my money and i'm going to close my account down. I've no chance getting any more money out of them, learned my lesson though and now they won't be getting owt off me. just realised it was split 4 ways with the others all being longer odds so it's probably right. identical thing for me, same bet same odds - got 142 quid back from 30 staked bastards -
If rumours are to be believed that sounds like what we're doing too. what rumours? elaborate please

good point, easy to overlook their side of the draw

you see that first time half-volley pass he played for Barcelona last season? one of the most diabolical things i've ever seen someone do with a football
