  1. If we'd had a penalty given against us for a handball like that I'd be livid. It was smashed at him from a yard away. He couldn't do much about it, but I thought it was the right decision from the ref in that case, he clearly (but inadvertantly) controlled it with his hand and wouldn't have scored without it. On the other hand, I thought Woodgate's challange on Oba was a clear pen. aye? looked perfectly timed to me but then they only replayed it once on the channel i was watching have to give that as a handball, fucking hell
  2. pompey now, otherwise it'll likely be over - definately over they beat us
  3. villa & reading cost me 400 quid; barca, atletico and wolves all won bugger
  4. this is what worries me, big time - there was a story a while back about a lot of our squad not having relegation clauses inserted into their contracts that were dismissed by a lot of people on here given that most of the contracts were handed out by a regime that were very gung-ho on wages (and the ineptitude of this regime to date) i'd be very interested to know how many have clauses in that reduce wages in the event of relegation my guess is not many
  5. been saying this for years, rejuvenate the CC and give the euro spot to the winner from either country merge at the QF stage it'd be mint
  6. where's the "we always beat spurs" merchants anyhow? this result was with new manager syndrome as well, under or hughton it would have been a fucking bloodbath
  7. yep, its this inability to win, convinces me we cannot win 3 in 5 were, down, im on a 9, cos its only a ten, when its mathematically down. a win against pompey might snowball though dude, stranger things have happened gotta keep the hope up
  8. i remember those days man, watching teletext scores...! god the memories dave's also reminded me of the 4-3 against leeds when i was there, what a fucking game man hope it was as good on teletext dave
  9. gone: enrique, taylor (s), jonas, colo, duff*, smith*, owen, oba, viduka, sholagoals, crapcapa questionable: butt*, nolan*, beye, mcloven, taylor ® stay: harper, guthrie, carroll, edgar & the other bairns like ranger, lua lua etc.... the * denotes players where wages vs performances will be the factor imo, i.e. we'd desperately like to get rid but might not be able to because of wages and fees being prohibitive either way i can see no more than having to sign cheap lower league dogs to replace the holes, plus some well placed strategic loans and playing the bairns gonna be a rough ride boys and girls
  10. did you watch the game yesterday oldtype? Yes, and Smith had his second best game ever for us by managing to not be a complete liability for 45 minutes. It doesn't mean I have to like the fact that he's suddenly our least bad central midfielder. nobody likes it mate, but you just said it yourself he's suddenly our least bad midfielder he's more mobile than butt and duff and seems capable of passing short-mid range to his own team mates more often than either out of guthrie, butt, nolan, jonas & smith only an idiot would now be picking butt & nolan in a 3 man midfield
  11. Ya reet its our only hope. yep, that'd be my team too Seconded, except Beye should be in the middle instead of mistake-prone Taylor. It's touch and go between Butt and Smith. I'd play Butt for he is better in defending and keeping shape of the formation. What's going on with Lovenkrads? smith showed yesterday he can pass a ball to his team mates with more regularity than butt ever has so he's in for me, we shouldn't underestimate the effect that passing the ball to our own team might actually have on the game!
  12. That's for sure! When was the last time we had made all subs at 61minute? That's not an optimal situation of course considering possible injuries/sent offs but clearly we tried to change the course of the game which can't be said about his predecessors. The frustrating thing is why can't he get it right the first time? that's EXACTLY what i thought yesterday, still he's only had 3 games as manager with a travesty of a group of players so maybe that's a little harsh if he doesn't start martins and viduka next game then i'll probably lose all faith tbh anyone know why guthrie didn't play? Martins really looked like he was struggling with his groin, and Viduka won't last 90 minutes either. Guthrie on the other hand, has to start. oh yeah i know that, sorry maybe that came across wrong - i understand why they didn't start yesterday i just won't understand if they don't start the next game fitness permitting why, on the other hand duff, nolan, butt & r taylor all "played" at the same time i cannot fathom for the life of me

  14. can 9 men carry a team to salvation? that should be the tag line for the remainder of our season, read out before the match in a deep dramatic Hollywood baritone every time we start games with duff, owen, butt & nolan we're essentially playing half a man in those positions - it's probably less than half but i'll give them half to be generous for no apparent reason personally if viduka & martins stay fit, if smith or guthrie play instead of butt or nolan (preferably both) and duff is thrown off the Tyne bridge i reckon we'll make it, just viduka and martins hold the key for me - still on 9 though
  15. It's a tough call between him and Nolan. But then Nolan is just a shit footballer so he might be having a good game by his standards. Nolan has been abysmal. We know that he is not at the same no legs standard as Butt so he has no excuses. The guy should never play for us again. nolan is raising the bar for shitness here mind however i'm staggered to see that a professional footballer can have such a poor short-mid range passing repertoire as nicky butt, he takes the fucking cake he really does
  16. least we made it only one down not sure what the fuck baldy and mongo are gonna have up their sleeves to reverse this like, hope to fuck it ain't viduka
  17. So its your fault, basically. well yeah, my inaction made it inevitable if i'd have typed it it wouldn't have happened, law of nature
  18. was about to write we'll get caught from a corner or freekick but hesitated, then we did fuck
  19. duff (everytime i say something about duff when we play he does something, see!!)
  20. point or more today gaining a little momentum and confidence and i think we'll make it IF we lose, the deficit and performance might determine our future in terms of our confidence for the upcoming games
  21. dunno like dave, accepting his mistakes is one thing but finding the finances is another eh? if we have the same set of players next year we'll struggle again, simple as that (although maybe not as badly) Totally agree. I'm just saying that whilst nothing excuses Ashley's decisions this season, the state of the finances must have contributed to the lack of transfer funds. It just stands to reason. The finances should be better after this season (if we stay up...), so that's one more thing to build upon. i just dream of this summer being the one where a competent manager with a brain and a little financial backing forces duff, smith, sholagoals, butt, viduka & owen out of the club and replaces them with new guys who actually contribute something to >50% of the season (an arbitrary figure that could have been lower tbh, half of those fucking wasters barely reach 10%) just think how little these players contribute on the pitch!! it's truly, truly staggering
  22. poor. I'd prefer to be right, which of course I am. why is it so important to be right? it isn't, I would rather have been wrong about Ashley and Keegan, but why is it so important to get a "bite" good question
