We’ve been trying to negotiate for a player with 2 years on his contract that clear wants to come here, meanwhile Palace have been sticking to their demands and leaking our negotiation attempts in the press in the hope they can start a bidding war like Brighton. Parish isn’t doing anything wrong but he is gambling. Currently there is one bidder and they have made a big offer. The transfer window is nearly over and the player has 2 years left on his contract. Unless he signs a new deal, which seems unlikely, he could be looking at losing £20m in transfer fee between now and next summer. We’d be in a similar position if someone bid big for Gordon this summer.

It seems to me that the play is leave the offer on the table for a week while we pursue another target, then see if that’s their final decision. Parish’s expectation is that we will keep pushing for Guehi.

My biggest problem with our RW options isn’t even the number of goals and assists, it’s how often we seem to lose the ball when we go up that side. Both of them lack the technical ability to hold onto the ball and pass it around in tight spaces and it can turn games into basketball matches.
