Do you all see him regularly? When I've seen him, he has looked tentative defensively at times, but a pretty skillful footballer who would be more of a threat than Enrique going forward and could continue a positive partnership with the likes of Jonas on that side. I think he would be a good player to bring in for free.

Another interest fact, Mick: Pardew took over midseason with a newly promoted team that had most recently been thrashed by another newly promoted team. Despite this situation and losing his most high profile player a month into his tenure, he has picked up point at a rate better than his predecessor which would avoid relegation in any season. What is Hughton's win percentage during his several spells as manager in the Premiership, btw? Post this instead of ones inflated by lower division victories. Get your head out of the sand, we spent most of the transfer window chasing an injured Villa player while either selling some of our players or sending them out on loan. The fact that only Kuqi has played is a joke and you don't seem able to see it. The club spent the transfer window doing nothing because it had no money. Ireland was grabbed on an opportunistic gamble. We then sold our best player on deadline day (obviously not Pardew's decision) and brought in an unemployed person to fill the void. If it was someone uyou liked you would throwing stones at Ashley.

Interesting how the players felt the need to perform so strongly after Hughton left, but could do nothing but hide against West Bromwich. Odd to use statistics that go against your argument in an attempt to prove your arguments. There is no basis on which to assume our results would have experienced an upward trajectory with Hughton here and there was no lull after his disappearance.

Pardew had a say in the set of players he had to choose from, if they are worse then that should reflect on him. This club has not spent a dime on new players since Pardew arrived here. The only player brought in under Pardew that has featured in a match is Shefki Kuqi. I do not really know what you are talking about. I doubt it was part of Pardew's master plan to sell Carroll.

The opportunity cost was maintaining unity and a general sense of stability around the club. This is mostly to do with the supporters, but some players as well, especially Barton. It is not too much to forfeit if we are truly looking to move the club forward, but you can never really tell.

Football's greatest - where does Lionel Messi rank?
Segun Oluwaniyi replied to Dave's topic in Football
f*** off, man He's neewhere near Djimi's incredible level. His back heeled pirouette finish against Burnley is the most preeminent piece of football that I have witnessed during my time on this Earth. I'm was too young and separated to truly remember the greats before 2000. In the new century, Messi is clearly the best player and there is very little in the way of real competition. Dominant, relentless, and graceful. You have to hope he doesn't experience injury, with what he has already accomplished at such a young age. The next 10-12 years could truly be special if there is no unfortunate circumstance, and the boy can keep his head. -
Out of the left backs we have been linked to, I prefer Wendt or Taiwo. Both are free transfers, but Taiwo is likely unrealistic and will require high wages. It would actually be good business if we sell Enrique and replace him with a quality player on free transfer, leaving money to fix the various gaps in the rest of the team.

The Chelsea losses to both Man U and Barcelona in consecutive years both had some of the most ridiculous footballer overreactions ever seen. I remember Joe Cole going mental over a corner decision.
-
At the current, their best striker is Daniel Sturridge and none of the ones involved today can blame the manager for not playing.

This match is in Manchester? I never realised.

No. Yes, actually.

Both Drogba and Essien look like they are reaching the end of their spells as world class footballers. no idea why he's taken off Torres completely needing at least 3 goals to win.

With you being a yank I would not expect you to like this Latino c***. Hernandez is not patch on former NUFC mexican striker Kuno Becker He's going to be such a problem for us. The rapid progression of Altidore and Adu will dwarf whatever the Mexicans can gather from this Hernandez.

The first legs were fairly entertaining, but the second legs of these ties are a waste of time for everyone. Chelsea are nothing.

West Ham agree fee in region of £15m with Liverpool for Andy Carroll
Segun Oluwaniyi replied to Pilko's topic in Football
I like to think he won't celebrate, hopefully he'll never get a chance to prove me wrong. Celebrating against us would not settle well with the "I was forced out of the club I love" story that he has attempted to craft. -
As in 'popular managers who actually achieved something for us'. It's quite ridiculous to compare Hughton's "accomplishments" to other managers you are talking about. I wonder if West Brom supporters hold Mowbray in such high regard for getting them promoted. I don't think Hughton's achieved that much. I'll always like him, but it is ridiculous to paint him as some sort of messiah.

I've thought Seedorf was at least 40 for the last five years. I'm always amazed to see he's still in his 30's. He's been at the top level for an eternity.

You seem to forget that Ireland was a long term injury before we signed him yet he was the biggest signing in January. Maybe, just maybe, we should have looked at bringing in fit players during the last transfer window. From my memory of things, his injury was not considered to be this serious when we signed him. I just saw an article where his return was delayed two weeks at the beginning of February. It just hasn't worked out, but it was an alright risk to take. The only thing I was truly uncomfortable with was loaning Routledge. He didn't produce too much, but he was a body, and we don't have too many of those. Still, the players that are out now form the backbone of this team, and losing them will always hurt.

Weren't you ready to run Pardew out of town a few months back, because he wouldn't start Ranger? But then Best smashed in a hat trick and you went into hiding. Think he is well within his rights insulting your 'intelligence'. Farcical the way you come on here ranting once the result is bad, but are completely absent when the team does well. Where were you and your 'intelligence' last week? Pathetic stuff. He's f***ing right though, you can't sell your best player and then moan about injuries later on. That's nonsensical. You most certainly can put blame on injury/suspension when you are missing the three players who have consistently given you goal threat and your top midfielder. Not to mention the long term absences of Ireland and Ben Arfa (We've become accustomed to these, but they are players we could use). The squad has always been rather small and inadequate, and this many absences will blatantly have a negative effect on the product. If it was Hughton, people would be making excuses for him. The truth of the matter is that both managers have done alright with limited resources.

I know people would like to attribute it to power and strength, but the man looks like he has a tumorous growth on his leg.

The Hughton is slightly different, as I'm not sure the results we had were worthy of him being released from contract. The Arsenal and Sunderland results were still sharp in the mind, despite a frankly embarrassing display against the aforementioned Albion. I did dislike the the anger and emotion involved in the ordeal from the players especially. Results were average with him and have continued in a similar vein since Pardew took power. It stands up alright as a business decision, imo, even if there were (unconfirmed. You never actually know anything at this club) reports of other factors influencing it. Generally though, my point had little to do with NUFC at all. Media, supporters, and most people with knowledge of football were lambasting the West Bromwich authorities for dismissing RDM, despite the results supporting the decision. He did a good job in the CCC, and took the club forward, but his time came to a necessary end as soon as he took the club to a barrier it could not pass. West Brom made a logical and correct decision, regardless of what the general sentiments will say.

Peter Osaze Odemwingie.

This team have proceeded to not lose any matches since this "madness" and are now probably safe from relegation. Football is not a game of sentiments. I've enjoyed them, tbh. Decent football and an intelligent transfer strategy. Still wish we had signed Osaze for the same minimal fee, despite him not being a typical Ashley/Hughton signing. (turning 30 in the summer)
