Ah we just scored Good play from Joel Obi and Ike Uche with the lucky finish after deflection off Garay. edit: 2-0 This is an awful match, tbh. Referee from Niger gave us a VERY soft penalty. This Argentina team just want to get the hell out of here, I think.

Watching the Nigeria-Argentina friendly in Abuja right now. It is a very weak Argentina squad, but I still expect us to be beaten anyway. We've put out a fairly strong team anyway: Enyeama, Okonkwo, Taiwo, Yobo, Ambrose, Mikel, Joel Obi, Kalu Uche, Ike Uche, Anichebe, Nsofor A few decent players in there, I hope Siasia can put together a good team.

N'Zogbia would actually make a lot of sense as he could provide cover at left back when Enrique is gone.
-
 Sorry, but he was the time he joined us. Without doubt tbh. He wasn't. He never has been. A special talent, who has had periods when he's been sublime at Lyon and OM, but he's never consistently dominated at the top level. He can be a great player if he doesn't allow this injury and attitude issues to hamper him.
-
I don't think he has ever been sufficient, tbh. We should try to shift him to one of three promoted sides. He looks decent because he's a bit of a ball player ( and we have very few of those), but he doesn't provide much of anything.

Barcelona win Champions League Final 10/11
Segun Oluwaniyi replied to Taylor Swift's topic in Football
Right, but they were disgraceful in the Madrid matches and were gifted the first leg by atrocious refereeing. Much the same against Arsenal. They were berated after both. The incidents with Mourinho are not forgotten. Today is their coronation, but the outcome of yesterday's match will not have changed entrenched opinions on Barca. -
Insomnia, Gameiro, and Gervinho would all have to be very opportunistic signings on our part. All three are hot properties throughout Europe at the moment and you would think higher clubs would be in for them. The higher league is obviously a pull factor, but at the pices being thrown around I would be amazed if no one else comes in.

Barcelona win Champions League Final 10/11

In this match, the referees haven't assisted them (if anything Man U should have had a man booked in the first 30 minutes) and they haven't dived or cheated very often. Why would anyone concentrate on anything but their good performance? -
Football's greatest - where does Lionel Messi rank?
Segun Oluwaniyi replied to Dave's topic in Football
If he eats well (and uses modern training techniques) and lives with dignity, there is no reason for him to stop playing at 31. It should be more like 10 years at least. -
Yohan Cabaye (now sporting coordinator at Paris Saint-Germain)
Segun Oluwaniyi replied to a topic in Football
Cabaye would be a great signing. A midfielder with quality who can actually pass and move the ball? Is this Newcastle?! Really though, he's been a constant presence as this Lille side have really progressed, and was brilliant especially last season. Would love him in our colours. -
Barcelona win Champions League Final 10/11

How is the Premiership inferior? They've had a team in the final three of the past four years and had two teams contest the final in 2008. I think Spain, Italy, Germany, France, etc. have better football cultures and styles of play than England, but no league competes with the top to bottom financial power of England, imo. Credit to Rooney, btw. He really showed well tonight and in the title decider with Chelsea. -

That was quite frankly ridiculous. Barcelona were masterful. Man U provided no challenge, though. You could say Barcelona forced this, but Man U threatened whenever they actually got men forward. It's hard to see anything stopping this side until Xavi and Iniesta expire. I cannot remember a time in my life when one team was just so much better than everyone else. -
Players with options leave. Is there any player that actually denied a chance to move when we were relegated? The ones that were pursued are no longer here. People are loyal when they are without choice. Keep perpetuating this stupid myth, though.

Imagine a NUFC without Nolan and Barton. Zog, Ben Arfa, Gervinho, Gameiro - as talented as they might be, they aren't as important as those two. If we sign them, they would be much more important. Nolan and Barton are only important because we don't have better players in their positions.

Reo Coker appeared thirty times for Villa this season. What has he done to get himself released? I wouldn't mind him here at all. Every team needs cover, and we have no physicality in midfield when the Cheik is suspended. Even Carew would probably be our best striker, though he generally just seems to be too much trouble give his small returns. I imagine wages being the major issue with both.

I loved Emana at Toulouse. Top player. But, I remember VI telling me that he'd not performed for Betis and spent most of his time posturing for a move, etc. I've not seen him in Spain really, so I can't comment. He seems to have declined markedly for Cameroon as well. Not the player I remember from a few years ago.

Ligue 1 Team of the season: --------- Mandanda Réveillère Sakho Rami Taiwo M'Vila Gervinho Hazard Nene Gameiro Sow Taiwo and Rami are already off, and I would consider Hazard, Mandanda, and Sakho to well out of reach. The rest are good players who should be available at decent prices and could improve our team. Well, maybe not Réveillère, he's pretty awful, but I suppose they needed to put a Lyon player in somewhere.

I would take Henry over Shearer or Drogba if you are meaning 2000-2009/10. Also absurd that 2008 Man U are the team of the decade over 2003-2004 Arsenal and 2004-2005 Chelsea. Both those sides destroyed most everything in their path domestically.

Imo, Bendtner is an above average mid table striker. We are a below average mid table team. I would love to see him on this team.

The NFL has an interesting concept of "blackout". When the attendence of the match is not above a certain threshold (ie. a percentage of the stadium), the match is "blacked out" and not shown on telelvision. Otherwise it is on freeview channels. What would you think about instituting this model in England, for the Premiership and maybe even the Championship? I think it would generate massive revenues.
-
I do not fully grasp why every Premiership match is not broadcast in your country and throughout Europe anyway. If you have technology and willing payers, what is preventing you from showing them. The main effect is funds being shifted away from the league into the illegal black markets and pubs.

I consider 71 points and 17 negative results to be a failure of a season for Chelsea. They have not impressed in any of the cups, either, and were soundly defeated by a team of similar stature in the Champions League. The team has not consistently gotten good results under this manager. Even last season, they forfeited a great advantage in the league and only were victorious due to the weakness of Man U and Arsenal. Tactically, he has thrown round pegs into areas that are not also round. The statement about talent is always subjective and subject to argument, but I think both Chelsea and Arsenal had more in terms of pure talent than the eventual champions this season. I do not understand the comment about Nigeria at all obviously. The nation as a whole is far worse than mediocre, but we are a great people and have prodcued many outstanding individuals, including myself.

Would enjoy him returning to OM for a year or two. He is really loved at the club.
-
What is ridiculous about it? He has the most talented squad in the league, and managed to win nothing at all. His team was in complete tailspin for several months. He has not acheived what was required of him, so he will be replaced. Similar to Di Matteo, I cannot see why people think clubs should be so accpeting of mediocrity or make decisions based on the prior season.
