Aye, all fair points but they could all have been made against Eddie ‘that bloke who got Bournemouth relegated’ Howe before he joined. This regime have had decent success at hiring the right personalities so at this stage I’d put my trust in them bringing in the right fit from that perspective and allowing them to become ‘best in class’ or whatever within the right environment.

Because it could be from an unforced situation where they were caught off guard. The top defenders rarely do this. They’ll have a bad day at the office once in a blue moon because they’re still human, but it’s a different thing to just switching off at a crucial time. Boumsong was almost the complete defender but we were always expecting one stupid comedy error that was completely unneeded and unforced most of the time. Same with David James actually between the sticks.

Surely Real Madrid, both Milans, PSG, Barca, Atletico etc aren’t at 70% for wages to turnover or whatever it is going to be. How can they run a competition where pretty much all or most major players are breaking that rule?
