Kettering Town reached the 4th round of the FA Cup last Saturday for only the second time in 136 years, one of only two teams from the 670 non-league entrants to make it this far. Even more improbably, the draw pitted Kettering against Premier League side Fulham owned by Mohamed Al-Fayed, which made it the competition’s first ever clash between two Muslim owners. Kettering Town and the football world looked forward to a great challenge while the club anticipated the traditional windfall that every non-league team expects when drawn at home to a Premier League side –a cheque for £160,000 for live TV coverage. Televising the game would have had a further benefit – a chance for Kettering’s shirt, which carries the slogan Palestine Aid, to raise awareness and charitable aid for the humanitarian crisis in Palestine. But yesterday afternoon ITV and Setanta took the almost unprecedented step of not choosing as one of their live matches a non-league team drawn at home to a Premier League side. Not only is it a tradition that such a tie is screened live, the schedule chosen contradicts the Football Association’s stated objective “to use The FA Cup to redistribute funds throughout the game” as Liverpool, Manchester United and Tottenham were all screened live in the 3rd round, whilst Tottenham will be live on TV for six consecutive games. The decision has not only shocked and angered the supporters of Kettering and Fulham, but supporters of other clubs, including Tottenham, have flooded club message boards complaining. Not only will Kettering Town miss out on the much-needed windfall and millions of football supporters be deprived of watching a match that embodies the essence of the Cup, more importantly the opportunity has been lost to raise further awareness and humanitarian aid in Palestine and follow the FIFA edict that says: “Due to its values, popularity, universal nature and appeal, football (in all of its forms) can be a viable and practical instrument for achieving social and human development targets…from a 'charitable giving' approach to a meaningful 'socially responsible, involved, and committed' one.” For this reason, Kettering Town have today decided to offer ITV another opportunity to broadcast our game against Fulham live and will waive our right to the £160,000 fee we would be entitled to. Furthermore, if ITV are unable to fit our game into any of their four channels, over the four day period set aside for 4th round games, we will allow Setanta Sports to screen our game, on any of their seven channels, again waiving the £160,000 fee. If, for any reason, neither ITV or Setanta can fit the game into the eleven channels and four days of programming we would ask the FA to allow the game to be moved to another date, as happened in the first round of the FA Cup, to assist ITV and Setanta with their scheduling. And finally, if for any reason, none of the three options above works, we have other non-subscription TV channels that would be willing to screen the game live or allow ITV or Setanta to use their platform on any date the FA choose. Chairman Imraan Ladak said "we were all very disappointed when the news was announced, but we hope our offer will allow ITV or Setanta to help increase awareness of the humanitarian crisis, whilst giving Kettering, Fulham and the neutral supporter the chance to watch one of the ties of the round." We look forward to working with the FA, ITV and Setanta Sports.

not gash to watch at craven cottage though. playing good football i thought despite not banging them in. i honestly cant understand how their home form is surely best bar man united in the league, but they fail to win away from home! might be something to do with the fact that the pitch at CC is practically a 5 a side pitch

i dont reckon hed come here. seems like fulham is the ideal club for him- small, posh, little expectations, little stress. NUFC and ashley would give him a heart attack.

which is why we need to keep him in charge for the season at least. although i really hope that he is replaced in the summmer by someone better. not that we can hope for the best of managers at all.

bear in mind that at the end of the season, you will probably renew anyway. most people on here seem to be complaining about the standard of football and how you are going to cancel, but when it comes to the end of the season, you will renew as you have done every other year because you are fans and its just natural to. cancelling then renewing gives ashley even more wad i imagine. all im saying is think carefully

time for a more optimistic thread. not necessarily NUFC. which managers, teams, players, pundits, tactics anything have impressed you this season? For me, Fulham and Roy Hodgson have particularly impressed- lost only 1 game at home considering they only stayed up on goal difference. also, Wigans zaki, valencia, palacios and figuroea have been excellent buys, and the fact that they only narrowly stayed up and are now 7th is impressive.

hardly going to inspire confidence for Gomes. made me think though- that time we won 3-2 daaaahn the lane with the martins cracker, given was absolutely immense! couldnt bear to see him leave!

on bbc i just saw "man city agree fee for bridge" and assumed they were trying to buy Stamford Bridge, maybe as a training ground or somewhere for their owners to land their helicopters

i guess we have at home, although the win we got at the reebok was fat sams first game in charge, so it was always going to be a win for us. still fancy us to lose or if lucky draw there this year- it will be home form that keeps us up.

its a must win alright, there are a lot more of these 6 pointers to come. We also have to play ManU, Arsenal and Chelsea at home we've dropped too many points at home against other teams at the bottom. Aye, our remaining home fixtures are very, very tough. The way it's going, being at home doesn't seem to make much of a difference. I'd fancy you just as much to win a game away to, for example, West Brom, as I would if you were at home. the thing is though, our away record is a shambles, as is our record against shite teams (as is our record against average and good teams but you get my drift). we lost away to derby county last year, which was a disgrace. cant seem to beat wigan, blackburn, bolton either. lost to charlton away when they went down, the list goes on. still fancy us to stay up.

charlton won 3 points in last 8 games, and so they apoint their caretaker manager (phil parkinson) as manager oh well, theyll be playing league 1 football next season then!

lucky win, but im not going to hold it against villa, as they very graciously gave us 3 points earlier in the season. hopefully all their good luck will be cancelled out in a thrashing away to gillingham.
