I think one lesson is that Newcastle and Liverpool are both 'working class hero' type football clubs with their own identity. Never mix the two, especially in the modern era. Dalglish, Souness, Rush, Barnes, Owen - all Liverpool legends, absolutely dire here. Carroll and Isak have been resounding expensive failures for Liverpool. There have been decent successes for non-important players - Wijnaldum, Hamann, Shelvey, Enrique, Milner The only unifying forces are Kevin Keegan, Terry McDermott and Peter Beardsley who are highly regarded by both but over 40 years ago.

Is it just Helder and Viana that we’ve had?
-
Not a bad Schar replacement
-
I bet he starts at Arsenal and when we inevitably get nothing from the game, he'll be back on the bench

Stuart Pearce suggested a title challenge this season are you saying he’s mad? because if you say that about a man like Stuart Pearce…
-
True - but sometimes it just takes the right type of players to come in and make it all click. Just adding Trippier, Bruno, Burn and Wood transformed a side going down into one that had top 6 form for a half season. In 2011/12 - just Ba, Cabaye, Santon and later Cisse transformed a midtable side into a top 5 one. In 2001/02 - Bellamy and Robert alone galvanised a team that finished 11th to 3rd. Of course, we thought that's what was needed this summer just gone - just a top class RW and back up CF away.

I agree but sometimes you get stuck in a rut without time and space to figure it out and it's felt so overwhelming this season with the run of games. I usually watch most games but even for me between Oct and Feb I was finding it extremely inconvenient how many games back to back - hard to get your mojo when you're in the results business and things aren't working. You usually stick with what you know works best

I actually think with how bad things have been this season, next season will be the total opposite and even a title challenge. 25 points lost from winning positions would have us second. Everything that could have gone wrong this season has gone wrong. Luck evens itself out and we're probably not that far from sorting it all out. Yes it does need a major refresh and can see us with a new spine next season (GK, CB - don't think Thiaw is a number 1 CB), Bruno and ST) which could go a long way. The old stalwarts - Schar, Trippier, Pope, Krafth will be gone. Others will be relegated in terms of importance: Burn + J. Murphy. Especially if we don't get some form of Europe. Tino and Gordon will be gone. Other older players may have moved on, Willock certainly, perhaps Botman and even Wissa. It is reconstruction surgery for sure. But it's exactly what the team has needed. 1 game a week, time for a new team to mesh well and gel and who knows where it could lead?

I’d love to see the alternative timeline and what would have happened had he gone and the other two stayed LFC probably don’t even buy Isak then as they’d be fuming we had their trousers down over Gordon
-
I think the ex DoF leaving at the start of the summer doesn’t get enough focus he ahould have seen us through one window at least especially after being here for a year without a signing, he had plenty of time to get things in order leaving us in the lurch meant it was all downhill from there

Put on Wissa and Wolte all out attack Wissa lw Osula RW
-
We need to get europa or ecl so we can flog players like him in these type of competitions
-
And people didn’t want Russia or Qatar to have it…
-
Given Howe likes to give new players half a season to learn his system before starting them regularly we may have to get used to Ashby or Shahar being our starting right back next season
-
Hugo Ekitike (not playing for Liverpool for a while)

And Wissa too tbf. Let’s hope we keep Wolte safe -
Swap for Kane - let him come and show Wissa and Wolte how to finish and break Shearer's record too
-
Osula should have buried that one on one though Would have been a different result if so
-
I bet the rumour was actually Nico Williams as Gordon's replacement
-
Could be a good time to get rid of Gordon, those CL goals numbers won't have gone unnoticed, perhaps even on his beloved Merseyside. They need to replace Diaz and Gakpo isn't it.

Project 2030 is on... these kids will be 19 and 20 by then

Shows how well we did last round against Man City in hindsight
-
There's a name I've not heard since 1998 when we were last linked to him
-
Feeling good with Wilson in place. Some good links finally coming through
