I started a reply to that same post you’re replying to, but with a bullet point with a few words on every game we’d lost or drawn because we’d either conceded at the death or thrown away a lead. But the list was so massive that I decided not to post it because people don’t need that level of depression in their lives, the world is grim enough already without a list detailing every time NUFC have shot themselves in the foot this season. It really was a lengthy tragic list though.

Newcastle United 3-1 West Ham United (17/05/26) | post-match from pg. 51

Why have people started calling West Ham "Ham". It's up there with calling Liverpool "Pool". Absolutely no fucking need for it. Sort it out lads & lasses. We're better than this. -
Ornstein's comments will be based on whatever gets him the most clicks. The facts are a secondary consideration.

If I had to sum up this season I'd say it was very consistent rather than in any way transitional. Consistently throwing away leads Consistently shipping late goals to drop points Consistently playing the same formation and tactics If there's one thing you can say about this version of Howe's NUFC is that we rarely conjure up a surprise. We're as much of a certainty as taxes and death.

Come on now, this forum has standards to maintain. "and some mistakes you lose your job like kissing a co-worker at a Coldplay concert" And FWIW I think the act of simply going to a Coldplay concert should be justification for someone losing their job, regardless of whether they kiss a co-worker.

There's many examples of teams that have stuck with managers whose performance has dropped and then had to bullet them because they never got back to previous levels of performance, but very few examples of managers achieving an Arteta-esque phoenix from the flames.

I think the "blame game" is absolutely justified when we've been seeing the same mistakes game after game after game for the entire season. The faces on the pitch change but the problems and frustrations don't. At some point it stops being about individual players or one-off errors and starts being about the culture, coaching, tactics and standards of the side. And we're a long way past that point now, in my opinion. For most of the season I've tried to be positive, or neutral about Howe and encouraged others to do the same. But after the last couple of months I've stopped, because it's gone beyond being defendable. He's had the ideal chance to change it and fuck all has changed. It's a predictable fucking shambles on repeat most weeks and that's down to Howe and his coaches.
-
Aye, agree with that. As team we're incapable of keeping clean sheets and protecting a decent position and that's down to all 11 players on the pitch, not just the back 4/5 and keeper. But my reply was to someone who had highlighted the weaknesses of our midfielders, strikers and wingers and I felt that the defenders also needed to be included in the criticism.

The biggest issue is defenders who can’t defend. 1 clean sheet in last 22 games. 20 goals conceded in the last 15 mins of games. 27 points thrown away from winning positions. From the tightest defence in the league in 22/23 to an absolute fucking shambles in 25/26. That takes some doing.
-
Biggest concern is the defence. We can’t keep a clean sheet and concede fuckloads of goals, especially late on.
-
If Bruno is running on fumes and Hall has been clattered and can’t run, then sub them. That’s on Howe if he leaves them on and that leads to a goal. And to answer your point, I’d have trained them to hold onto 3 points like those points are the CTF Pink Stone diamond, for starters. Instead of pissing away more points by conceding late for the umpteenth time this season.
-
You’ve completely missed the point. All season long we’ve been able to score goals, but we’ve conceded way too many goals and been unable to hold onto a lead / draw and are now miles ahead in the “points dropped from winning positions” table. A 0–0 today would have demonstrated we’ve tightened up at the back. Some progress in sorting out our glaringly obvious problem. Not an ideal result, but a sign that we’ve improved a massive weakness (defending). A 1-1 via conceding at the death shows that absolutely nothing has changed.
-
It’s not chicken and egg for me. It’s a manager who can’t get his team to do what’s needed to see out winning or drawing positions and convert them into points. And whose side concede late goals game after game after game. It’s a mentality issue across the entire group. And for me, that’s down to their gaffer.
-
Read it and weep. We’re so far ahead it’s embarrassing.
-
It’s not the individual players it’s the weak as piss mindset across the squad, which has been going on for so long that the finger has to point at the coaching staff who are unable to drill into the players that they need to protect positions where we’ve almost got points in the bag. Doesn't matter who’s playing, the team fucks up in the same way game after game after game. So for me, that’s down to the manager and coaching staff. A few times a season stings, but that’s football. But this has been going on consistently since August.

How does a transfer window stop us from throwing away points from decent positions and conceding late goals ? We’ve been soft as shit all season long and when it happens so often for so long, that’s down to the manager and his inability to sort it out.
-
Your opinion is absolutely correct, no need for the “imo”
-
Think I’m now in the camp of him leaving with his head held high at the end of the season and we bring in someone who will insert a fucking backbone and some fucking balls into this team of fannies. Scour the globe to find the next Alonso and get them in to sort this shower of shite out.
-
Just needs a decent transfer window and we’ll stop throwing away points and conceding goals at the death
