  1. What applies to Arsenal ? They’re one of the teams that PSR is designed to protect.
  2. Do you know what PSR rules are, when they were introduced and what purpose they’re surreptitiously designed to serve ? They’re not an excuse, they’re an unfair restriction that we have to work within the confines of. And what sort of nincompoop thinks you can just turn good players into world class players by making them work harder.
  3. Well Howe did it last season. We had 2nd within our sights right until the last couple of games. Oh and he won a cup last season too. Oh and Emery has already rejected the NUFC job when offered it in the past.
  4. Have 4 pints and get a drop off at about 6ish. Probably best to get 3 for 100 so you’ll have some left over for NYE.
  5. Wenger and Arsenal were hugely successful in winning titles and they were so good they went a season undefeated before they began a slow “decline” into Wenger’s final years of his 22 year tenure, “only”winning cups and finishing 4th. We were relegation fodder in Oct 2021 who couldn’t win a single game. For 14 years before that our only aim was to stay in the top flight (failing twice) with a club policy of not progressing in cups and not getting into Europe. Since Oct 21 we’ve won a cup, lost a cup final, qualified for the CL twice, finished high enough in the league to get in the Europa and are in a cup semi final this season, whilst progressing well in the CL. All with a manager who’s on the up and until he came to NUFC had never won a trophy or qualified for Europe so is having the most success he’s ever had in his career. It’s been the most successful period most living Newcastle fans have ever experienced. We’ve already got more to show for it than we had from our purple patch in the 90’s. And you think we’re accepting mediocrity and have a culture of just being satisfied with winning cups. The mind boggles.
  6. Win our next three Carabao Cup games and we’ll have done something with this season
  7. We’ll qualify for the Champions League by winning the Champions League.
  8. I’m not trying to completely discredit it, I’m highlighting exactly what you’ve highlighted - it’s an imperfect predictive statistic that when used correctly can provide data analysts with some relatively useful insight over extended time frames. And I’m pointing that out because over recent years casual observers of football have been putting way too much emphasis on the importance of predictive statistics and coming up with increasingly complex but fundamentally flawed ways to apply shoulda, woulda, coulda theories to football results. Hence why I asked why are Wolves, West Ham and Burnley excluded from the Big Chance data that was shared ? It makes absolutely no sense to exclude those sides. It’s just flawed use of the already flawed data and any sensible person should be applying some critical thinking and questioning why the analyst felt the need to do it.
  9. I would have spent my £100 on drugs and pornography, so it’s probably for the best.
  10. In Oct 2021 we were relegation fodder stinking out the league. We’ve since won a cup, been in a losing final, been in the Champions League twice and are about to play our third cup semi final in 4 years. All whilst being hamstrung by snide PSR rules, some of which were created purely as a result of the NUFC takeover. Chill out man. This is the best it’s been for NUFC in many generations. Go smoke a doobie or summat.
  11. Which is a fundamental flaw with xG. The quality of the players, the tactics the teams are deploying and the game situation will all have a huge impact on dictating the quality of the chance.
  12. Do you have inside evidence that demonstrates Howe’s influence over his nephew’s job, or are you just speculating that because they’re related to each other then they must be in cahoots ? I worked with a niece and her uncle, where their day to day responsibilities directly affected each other. Both were excellent at their jobs and you wouldn’t have even known they were related.
  13. Ruthless consistent goal scorers like Haaland, Kane, Mbappe, Ronaldo, Messi. Shearer, Henry, Cole, Rooney, Ageuro etc etc etc etc If you have a rock solid defence and a player of that calibre and consistency up front, you don’t need to create a lot of chances in order to win games and be successful.
  14. Yes, we’ve been a mess with our off-field leadership due to departures (Ashworth) poor hires (Mitchell) and Eales getting diagnosed with cancer. But saying Howe has outsized influence on executive policy is just speculation.
  15. Aim for the stars, land on the moon, whinge like spoilt bairns about the lunar landing achievement and claim the moon’s fucking shite
  16. I didn’t notice it when I went. We had a couple of pints pre-game, then went out to a few boozers after. If it means less people heading off to guzzle peeve on the concourse at 35 mins and then reappearing at 50 mins then I’m all for it.
  17. For a newly promoted team they’re playing well and getting decent results. No point denying it. Last season they looked very tidy and were flying, then they dropped off a cliff in the 2nd half of the season and barely won a game until the play offs. Might happen again that they turn to to shit. Might not happen though, they could well keep this form going. Football’s a funny old game.
  18. But how do you know what size chances you’re giving away when the likelihood of a chance being big or small depends on the player it falls to. Like a small chance with the ball at Messi’s feet would be far more dangerous than a big chance with the ball at Shola’s feet. That’s not down to luck or goalkeeper performance, that’s largely down to the quality of the opposition players. And why do West Ham, Burnley and Wolves not count ? West Ham tore us a new arsehole.
  19. I said if people constantly claim they can predict the future, they deserve the blowback when they’re proven to be wrong. Could be Kaka or could be anyone else who regularly nails their flag to a mast at either end of the spectrum. Whether their predictions were positive or negative isn’t relevant to the point I was making. Too many people are insistent that they can predict exactly what will happen next with a player. So it’s funny to laugh at them when they were so committed to an outcome that turned out to be wrong. There’s far too much polarisation in people’s opinions and not enough balanced thinking. In my opinion.
  20. What if you mainly score or concede small chances ? And why have they excluded the bottom 3 clubs from the analysis ? Those clubs are just as relevant as all the others in the league. West Ham battered us, for example.
  21. It’s not even the correct phrase, never mind being the correct use of the phrase when the phrase is correct.
  22. I went with some Jambo pals to watch them play the Hibbies at Tynecastle about 15 year ago. Great atmosphere in a packed little stadium. Hearts won so it was a good day for my pals. I knew about the Catholic / Protestant allegiance for each club but didn’t know there were sectarian songs that are banned in the grounds, so they sing them before / after but not when they’re in the stadium.
  23. One side of my family lived in Monkwearmouth for over 200 years until my nana hatched her escape in the 1950’s. So yes, it’s plausible.
  24. If my auntie had balls she’d be me granda. People who express an opinion on a player by nailing their flag to a “he’ll be fucking shite / he’ll be fucking class” mast should expect some blowback when their attempts to play Nostradamus are proven to be incorrect. Too many people gob off thinking they can predict the future with great certainty. Guess what. They can’t. Maybe they’ll learn to be a bit more balanced in their thinking.
