If you know a player you're interested in has a release clause, why would you brief the media about the release clause and therefore alert every other club that there's a release clause. If there's a release clause, the player doesn't need to agitate for a move. I'd have thought briefing journos / Twatter schills about release clauses is done by the players agent or the selling club, assuming they're a club that actually wants to sell.
